It all started with four words : EXTRA IN THE ORDINARY. About a year ago, I had a dream one night in my college dorm room about a series of photos of people dressed extravagantly doing everyday things. I thought of a queen in a grocery store shopping & the pope brushing his teeth. This idea of

standing out in the normal has always intrigued me.Â

I have often been described with the word extra ... the girl who needs a extra 15 minutes in the morning (or maybe 30), the girl who shows up somewhere dressed a little more extra than she should, the girl who is willing to spend extra time perfecting a

project or having a meaningful conversation, the girl who tries to be extra careful when it comes to others feelings, the girl who always has a extra burst of energy at midnight even after a long day, the girl who takes extra long to get back to texts & emails (i do apologize!) and the girl whose goal is to love people extra & live an extraordinary life.

This word, “extra” is not something necessarily

new to me but this idea of boldly standing out in the ordinary moments can sometimes be frightening or intimidating. Why is it scary

bringing something different to what the world offers? Why is difficult to go beyond what

people expect? This idea has made me nervous for a long time. I never wanted to disappoint people because I am not normal in the way I do life, yet I have this deep desire in my heart to live fully in who I am created to be. There is not a certain answer or map to explain how to let go of the opinions of others, but I believe when I started seeing the beauty in the small, everyday

R A moments is when something clicked inside of me. If I can find true joy in the mundane life, in those little “extra” minutes, conversations, feelings and moments then it is all worth it. Life is short - hug your people extra long, spend an extra day at the beach, buy that extra dress your mom thinks you will never wear, & eat the extra calories. Find your extra in the ordinary.

BACK WHEN WE WERE KIDS BOWL We all remember going to the store with our mom and getting to pick out one sugary cereal of choice each trip. I would go down that isle and change my mind thousands of times after seeing all of the options & bright colored boxes. I sometimes couldn't wait until the next morning, so I would sneak into the pantry & get handfuls if sugary goodness I called “snacks.”

Some could call this the extracurricular meal of the day when you're craving a bowl of cereal for your midnight snack. It can also be the perfect delicacy of your most important meal of the day: breakfast! No matter the time of the day, the sweet crunch of your favorite cereal brings you back to your childhood almost immediately. After one bite i can picture myself with bed head, half awake sitting in our kitchen fueling up

CANCELING CREATIVE CONFINEMENT WITH CHLOE REED Chloe Reed’s story starts when she created a fashion blog, Nothing to Wear, as a creative outlet, but years later she says, “I found a love for being behind the camera after years in front of it.” Chloe, now twenty-two, lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma and creates images that capture raw life, laughter and love.

As her passion for photography became her career, she learned how to keep herself inspired after creating each day.

What originally drew you to photography? Do you still fill like you are drawn to it for the same reason after doing it for several years?

What do you think kept that drive and passion growing inside of you?

WALKING THROUGH WONDERFUL THINGS:

A TIM WALKER REVIEW

British Photographer, Tim Walker, stands out for his countless covers of Vogue & fashion photography, but what stands out to me is the story he creates. He claims,“only photograph what you love.” You can tell Walker lives by this through each one of his photo shoots. I had the privilege to see V&A’s exhibit, “Wonderful Things,” where Tim Walker’s journey to create a story is beautifully captured. The exhibit starts with his journals discussing experiences of his childhood, memories, & most importantly his inspiration. Walker taped clippings and doodled all over his journal to describe his vision. Next, he worked with a team to create sets, clothing, and find models. Each set is handcrafted from Walker’s previous experiences mixed with a deeper more magical story he was trying to explain. Walker’s work can seem complex with the overdone sets, makeup, & edgy points of view to many, but this is what sets him apart from other photographers. He takes things to the next level by letting his mind & creativity go to the places that often people are too scared to reach. He understands what makes him unique and effortlessly runs with it. If anything, we should learn from his drive, his passion for capturing stories, & his confidence. Just like Tim Walker, know the wonderful things that make you undeniably yourself and create magic.
