Paper For Above instruction

Affirmative action refers to policies and practices aimed at increasing opportunities for historically marginalized groups, particularly in education, employment, and other areas of societal participation. It seeks to address existing inequalities and promote diversity by giving preferential treatment to those who have faced systemic disadvantages. This approach often involves targeted recruitment, outreach, and admissions strategies to foster equity. My prior understanding of affirmative action was aligned with its role in promoting social justice, but I now see it also as a mechanism to counter institutional biases that perpetuate societal disparities.

According to Leighico et al. (2020), affirmative action is a proactive measure designed to ensure diverse representation and rectify historical injustices by providing marginalized groups with increased access to opportunities in education and employment. Critics argue, however, that such policies can sometimes lead to reverse discrimination or undermine meritocracy, which sparks ongoing debate about their fairness. Despite these controversies, research indicates that affirmative action can significantly improve socioeconomic mobility among disadvantaged populations (Kalev & Dobbin, 2021). Overall, the concept is rooted in the pursuit of equitability and social cohesion, making it a vital tool in fostering inclusive societal growth.
