STA|M5167 drip is very pleased to release the new dual STA we designed this new board for high performance mastering and tracking applications the new board is a dual channel dual mono design super quiet and ultra bad ass. a very simple and straight forward build. the drip design is a 100% accurate signal path. the front panel pcbs make what used to be hours of wiring a 3 minute job. same with the psu and xlr hook up welcome to the drip 2018 spring collection.

4 BYPASS use one sma per channel to connect the bypass on the xlr board to the bypass on the front panel . should be a longer sma cable that has enough length as not to cause tension on the front panel pcb.

3 front panel connections use two 16 position idc box header and cable to make the front panel connection the output attenuator (3A) requires 3 sma cables to connect - output attenuation is not in the ribbon cable. optionally use an 8 position 2.54 terminal to use hard wire to use alternate controls etc.

XLR CONNECTIONS

connect the power (315VDC) @ 80mA (per channel) and 6.3VDC@2 amps (per channel) use rated SMA cables for these connections make sure cable is mounted to idc connector on pcb securely - use small wrench to lightly tighten the connection.

use two sma cables per channel to connect the audio to the main pcb. optionally use twisted pair wires from the idc socket using a terminal block spaced for 2.54mm.

input transformer the input transformer footprint is designed for sowter transformer or the lundahl LL1922 for the lundahl - 1:4 is recommended.

each channel of the STA has its-own high voltage regulator - its isolated each channel from one another - lowers the regulation burden of the PSU high voltage regulator and also provides a second stage of extremely low ripple high voltage

2 signal pre amplifier the preamplifier tube is a 6386 tube this is where the magic happens pure 100% MU compression

3 signal second stage the second stage amplifier is a 12at7 tube

4 signal output amplifier a 12watt output amplifier dual 6v6 tubes in push pull configuration - ‘the beast’

the large format output transformer primary and secondary is to be connected here use caution the center tap is 300V

the power hook from the psu is made through SMA cables each channel draws 2 amps of 6.3v heater current and 85mA of high voltage @ 315V

5 control rectifier/glow tube the control tube of the sta is a 6al5 rectifier tube / the 0b2 tube is a 108V regulator tube this sets the bias of the control tube.

front panel control board this pcb controls the entire functionality of the drip sta - no further controls are necessary the connections are a single ribbon cable and three (shielded) sma cables for the output amplifier attenuator.

a 5ar4 tube is utilized as the main high voltage rectifier. protection diodes and optional diode footprints have been added to bypass the tube and use diodes only. a choke hookup has been added , however may be bypassed and skipped.

filter capacitor polarity is wrong here - ground side is up positive is bottom

Errata pad is ground not 300v the xlr pcb uses pcb mount xlr sockets or may be hard wired to xlr sockets. two (hard) bypass relays are used per channel additionally a mute relay has been added grounding the output of the pcb while in bypass mode. connections may be sma or 10 pos cable.

transformer i/o connections XLR OUTPUT the drip STA does not have the audio i/o idc connector you may connect the input and output xlr pads to the xlr pcb via 5.08 terminals (use twisted pair wires or shielded wire) or use 2 sma cables 1 for input and 1 for output . jacket is pin3 center pin is pin 2.

the high voltage input of the STA is again regulated and smoothed via a solidstate high voltage regulator circuit . the main psu should provide 315V into each channel of the pcb this regulator should be set for 300v

MOUNT LM317HV AND MJE3439 TO HEATSINKS USING THE ISOLATION THERMAL PAD AND MOUNTING KIT. 240 ohm voltage adjust 470K 2W bleeder resistor

transformer i/o connections OUTPUT on the bottom of the pcb is the output transformer hook up . these pads may be soldered to or the use of a barrier stip is recommended - if not using the sowter output , there are a few options from hammond to edcore , these transformers are great affordable alternatives. use the description on the bottom of the pcb pad to navigate a different transformer.
