Decorah Public Library expands Spanish language collection with grant funds
Decorah Public Library’s Children’s and Young Adults Department was recently awarded a grant from the Depot Outlet to build a Spanish language collection for youth. The grant supports a project to expand cultural inclusivity and break down language barriers.
Additional funds have been provided by the Baker Family Fund and Friends of the Decorah Public Library.
“We are so grateful to the
Depot for helping us provide resources to our Spanish-speaking library users,” said Children’s and Young Adult Librarian Sophie Nall, “Reading is not only educational, but should be enjoyed freely as a leisure activity. Everyone deserves access to books in their native language.”
The project is a branch of DPL’s efforts to provide more resources to Spanish–speakers in the community, including plans for bilingual signage and library communications, as well as programming and activities for

and to
families. The new collection is expected to contain books for all ages, including Spanish picture books, graphic novels, middle grade and young adult fiction. Requests for specific books may be made through the library catalogue or in person at the library.
