The Automarket at Union Square is one of a network of automated farmer’s markets throughout New York City. In an effort to alleviate congestion caused by ground logistics, these markets use the subway system during off-peak hours to distribute fresh goods. The square is an array of mechanically rearrangeable platforms that flexibly accomodate many public square functions, and blends the domain of humans at street level and the domain of mechanized transportation underground into a combination public park and logistics center.

In times of dispute, clearing the mind can be achieved by removing oneself from the combative environment to a more peaceful area. Polarized is an arbitration office located in Harlem. Using large perforated screens, light wells, and long walks, it removes disputing parties from the surrounding city. The parametrically-generated facade screens out the harsh urban streets and railroad, while bringing in daylight and views of the sky and the viaduct trees. Within these screens, people have the space to separate themselves from whom the dispute in the waiting area, but opportunities to engage them in the cafe lounge.

The Monteverde Institute, as an organization, works to educate, promote, and develop sustainability through the sciences and design. A classroom here should be made such that it furthers this mission.
La Casa del Arbol a near total reconstruction of an existing shed on site, which contains a mountain of scrap materials, mainly wood. It seeks to minimize this kind of constuction waste by using wood in its complete, round form in both structure and skin. All stone is rough cut and local, and the metal roof is found commonly in the area.

The globe was generated using a heightmap. The grasshopper script takes this samples grid of points on this image and translates the grayscale value into the height of a corresponding vertex on a rectangular mesh. Then, the mesh is projected around a sphere. The stand is designed in Rhino to mount the globe on pins with bearings for free spinning.

This is a Unity prototype featuring the procedural generation of an infinitely long canyon. Pixel texture “chunks” are generated in series using several passes, then used to determine the placement of tile modules.
Edge pass: create canyon walls using 1D perlin noise sets.
Hazard pass: place water or lava tiles with 2D perlin noise.
Bridge pass: connect land masses using edge detection and A* navigation.

Wave function collapse is a technique of procedural generation inspired by a quantum physics phenomenon of the same name. Using a given pattern of modules in a 2D or 3D tile grid, it will output a larger grid that is randomly composed of these modules in a way that follows the same patterns shown in the input. This plugin is an implementation written for Grasshopper.
