A Prelude : Mundane to Marvelous

You Can Start a Fulfilling Lifestyle Too There are so many factors that run through our heads when it's time to transition to living a better and more meaningful life. Most of us get stuck at the fear stage. That fear sometimes stems from the thought that things may not turn out the way we would like them to be after having given our time, money and energy to what we are pursuing.

I clearly remember sitting at my cubicle desk one Friday afternoon around 3pm, munching on my butter popcorn at my great paying job, with some really cool colleagues and... being unfulfilled. Sure my schedule was pretty flexible. It needed to be that way in order to accommodate my lifestyle of parenting children who were under the age of five at the time. I needed to be there for their developmental years and my flexible schedule afforded me that opportunity.

Sounds great, right? Wrong. I was at a job that's sole purpose in my life was to basically serve as a paycheck, when what I really needed was vibrancy and life. This position gave me very little satisfaction in those areas. How could it? I was stuck in a holding pattern of going to my job day after day, and "can't waiting" my life away. You know what I'm taking about. "I can't wait for the holidays," "I can't wait for my vacation," or" I can't wait for the weekend." I found myself saying those things all to often, because anything involving NOT being at my job was what I looked forward to.

That's the norm for so many ladies, but I knew I needed to change that for myself. I wanted to LIVE. And not just for the weekend, but for every day, every second, every moment. I wanted to enjoy every single part of my life. Little did I know that enjoyment would derive from being an international wellness-based career and lifestyle coach and consultant.

But what if I told you that "fear" actually stands for False Evidence Appearing Real and fear is holding you back from living a life you were meant to fulfill? What if there are people who need your exact gifts, talents, personality and presence in order to leave the darkness they are living in and propel them into the Marvelous light of living meaningfully on their own?

Stop Fearing - Start Living Many of us are stuck in fear of the unknown and it's slowly killing our spirits. Not only is it killing our spirits, but it's also affecting our health, relationships, and sense of joy. We can't possibly be the best version of ourselves if we are barely making it through the day. I invite you to walk with me as I share more about about my journey of leaving an unfulfilling, mundane corporate job and becoming a world change agent through the realm of health, wellness and career purpose.

Sharing my success as a wellness-based career and lifestyle coach has afforded me the opportunity of transforming young, modern women's lives and I want to do the same with you. I'll share many of my BEST kept secrets to maintaining a low-stress lifestyle that I love, my joys, my disappointments and how you and I can continue to identify the things that raise our vibration on this earth so that we can discover our passions and live meaningfully and purposefully.

Living as a Wellness-Based Career & Lifestyle Coach Once I identified that I wanted to impact lives as a wellness-based career and lifestyle coach and help women to love themselves inside and out, while also pursuing their life purpose I became excited about life! I made a career change to becoming an entrepreneur. I no longer met the social norm of going to my safe 9-5 job just so that I could buy cute outfits and material things that lacked real meaning to me.

Instead, my desire was to live a life I loved, and this became one of my sources of strength. I steadily created a ripple effect of passion to women in my local community and across the seas. These women that I helped inspire, began to also embrace the notion that meaning and purpose is necessary if we are to give love, understanding and attention to the people who need it the most.

Maybe you would love to escape, but you don't know where to turn, and you don't know how to get started. You may be wondering if you need to return to school to earn another degree, certificate, or continuing education credits. Confidence Unleashed Dear Melissa ,

Do you remember that in your younger days before you turned 12, you were both bold and courageous yet also significantly lacked confidence?

You were never the first person to volunteer for a challenge but once you got into one you never backed down until you won. You always stood up for what was right including sticking up for other people who couldn’t do the same for themselves. Yet on the inside you deeply felt any unkind thing that was done or said to you although you wouldn’t communicate the things that bothered you. Back then you didn’t realize it but you always persevered; continuing on despite the odds, doing the best you can. Do you remember conquering your fears for something that you loved? Like your love for the ocean and swimming, yet your fear of deep blue waters that seemingly have no end? Well, you did it - you got your first dive certification!

Can you believe that you actually went off to college despite wanting to drop out of high school? At the age of 21 you would graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science and by the age of 22 you’d continue on to get an incredible first job as a Project Manager on an important environmental project in your home country, The Bahamas, that you love so dearly. You’ve worked with and led teams of incredible experts, stakeholders and volunteers both for your job but also on a voluntarily based environmental project, all at the same time. You did so much overthinking and questioning yourself internally, yet you continued to grow, accomplished so many achievements and had unlimited love and support externally. And guess what, now you’ve even attained 2 higher levels of your dive certification that allows you to dive even deeper and to face more of your fears as you always do. I mean, can you really believe it? That strongwilled perseverance that you hold on reserve all the time has slowly but surely grown into a self-reassured confidence. I know it may be hard to believe but you will continue on, one foot after the other.

To date, you have recently received a fully funded scholarship that has taken you across the world to Ireland to study for your Master’s degree. One day you will be a well-known and impactful environmental and social activist, not just for your country but for the world - highlighting various issues that are near and dear to your heart. You hope to live in The Bahamas for as long as possible in a beautiful home, on an elevated plot of land with a great view of the island. However, you'll be open to options to go wherever life takes you and where you feel is in your best interest! You’ll be happily married, maybe with a kid or two, but definitely with a whole

Building a Bright Future Dear Kashmere , growing up as a child and not knowing R emember what you wanted to become? First it was a

fashion model, then you wanted to be a veterinarian (until you got chased by that dog and realized you’re not very fond of animals), then you decided you wanted to be a pediatrician. Remember being so shy and being the one who sat in the back of the class, not only because of your last name but also because you felt less “seen” in the back? Can you imagine that at 23 years old you would have graduated college, started grad school, and been beginning your journey into your adult life?

You remember all of it and that’s exactly what you’re doing. You graduated college in 5 years after switching your major 3 times! Lately, you’ve been working full-time but have also been enjoying as much time as you can with your friends and spending your weekends at Disney Parks. You’ve come to realize you actually love going to Disney, despite the hot weather Florida normally has.

You’ve also become very fond of traveling and have become the travel researcher and planner in your friend group. You’ve even planned a 4-day cruise for you and your friends!

Fun Facts about me:

I collected pennies for 3 years (& had about $86 in all pennies when I cashed it in).

I love learning to cook new foods!

My favorite color is yellow.

In the future, I envision that you’ll be set in your career and living in a newly built, 5-bedroom house still in sunny Florida, with your husband, son, and two daughters. You will take your family to Disney at least twice a year and once out of the year, it’ll be in a different location like Disney Japan or Disney California. I see you taking your family on a big trip to another state or country every summer so you can relax in your soft colored, comfortable summer dresses and matching 2-piece sets, so that they can experience different areas and locations you never got much of a chance to while growing up. I see you buying the things you never got the chance to have like expensive Bottega & Hermes purses, Cartier and Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses to wear on your trips when you’re traveling. After all the traveling, you will show up to work every day with your business casual clothes while successfully running your hospital, keeping up to date with every patient's experience, and making sure their needs are catered to. At the end of all the fun, all you have ever wanted to do in life is be there for others and make sure you help them. I see a lot of great things and success within your future, and this is only the beginning of it all.

hen you were little, you dreamed of being in a spacious place with ample time doing whatever you desired.

Do you remember those days when you were sitting on top of the toilet seat late at night to study in a tiny 400 sq feet apartment that's shared with 7 family members? Imagine you will be living on your own in a spacious place all to yourself.

Do you remember those years when you had really bad eczema, your hair was shaved, you were walking in uniform into school holding your fists because you heard how ugly you were from classmates? Even so, do you recall there was a boy who wrote in your scrapbook: "I know everyone gossips about you and most dislike you because of how you look and how dumb and slow you are.

However, I know you work very hard. I believe one day you will transform from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. Keep going!"

I know life has not been easy for you and yet, God is good. Hardwork always pays off and beauty comes from within.

You were so courageous to leave your home country when you turned 17 to pursue the American dream on your own.

Even throughout your childhood, you were not able to do well in art and music.

However, in about 20 years, you will go on two-year adventures traveling across the world and you’ll start devoting your life to art in the forms of painting, drawing, singing, modeling, acting, and creating a world that belongs to you.

Find Yourself to Push Yourself Dear Rimika ,

an you imagine that by the time you’re 20, you’ll carve your own path in the tech industry and find yourself in an entirely new country?

At 14, you stepped into the unknown, unaware of the new world awaiting you. What began as a presumed six-month vacation unfolded into your unexpected home. In the pursuit of activities like debate and enrolling in an Honors English class, you found yourself having to prove your worth at every turn. It felt like a constant reminder that you may never measure up. The relentless comparisons to well-settled peers made it a struggle to grab opportunities that seemed effortlessly handed to others. The desire to emulate their success led you to morph into their likeness, muffling your own voice. After all, that’s how you transition, right?

Leave your past behind? Adapt to the new environment? Try to fit in?

Amidst satisfying other people’s expectations, you were also grappling with mental health issues and imposter syndrome. The relentless pursuit of making others happy and feeling enough burdened you. Navigating life as an international student in a new culture added another layer of complexity. While your peers enjoyed work opportunities, visa restrictions prevented you from financially supporting your family. The high school landscape, dominated by scholarships for citizens and permanent residents, further intensified the struggle. The absence of a role model only deepened your insecurities.

You did not stop there. Refusing to let others define your path, you propelled yourself into taking that Honors class and engaging in high school debates. Your resilience shone through when you secure your dream internship six years later, defying the challenges of a demanding job market. In the face of constant attempts to diminish your light, people

questioned, mocked, and pressured you to set lesser goals—blaming it on you being an international student, a woman in tech, or simply not smart enough. But they don’t know you. Only you know what you are capable of.

You're undeniably one of the hardest-working individuals I've ever witnessed, consistently breathing life into your dreams. This resilience has been your survival kit, propelling you through life's challenges. Your willingness to

Progress begins at the end of your comfort zone push boundaries, step out of comfort zones, and go that extra mile has forged a spirit that's relentless and fearless, ready to conquer any situation. This determination paved the way for graduating with the highest honors, becoming an articulate speaker, securing scholarships, and leaving a positive mark in your community through various student organizations. Right now, I aspire to simply be myself and embrace who I am: appreciating the person I am now and the potential within me. I'm determined to cultivate self-love and maintain it as an ongoing journey. Discipline is key, especially when it comes to the things that bring me joy. A source of profound satisfaction for me is lending a helping hand to others.

Consequently, I'm eager to actively seek out opportunities to support fellow students who might be facing challenges similar to what I've experienced, letting them know they're not alone and ensuring they feel heard and seen. I firmly believe in the boundless nature of opportunities, irrespective of visa status or gender – if one door closes, rest assured another one will open. Furthermore, I'm committed to a perpetual pursuit of knowledge, be it in the realms of software engineering, AI/ML, Neurotech, or any other field. Welcome from Ebonie's Workspace "Is this really my job?" As a wellness-based career consultant and international women's retreat host, I often find myself contemplating whether to write or produce a video about my previous and current life experiences. I thoroughly enjoy connecting with others who have similar stories to share.

For example, when I recently considered what to share with my community and the lessons I have learned, I was unsure whether to talk about:

The time I almost died in a truck accident after driving home from my boyfriend's house smoking weed.

How one summer I traveled to Cali and could've easily gotten arrested for having one of the best times of my life in a parked car at the Golden Gate Bridge. Imagine that.... me in a Cali jail cell.

The time that I won money for twerking on stage like Beyonce in Jamaica .

The time I totaled my friend's mom's car, and the dope experience I had at a local swinger's club.

Determination and Resilience Dear Cait, so proud of you, my love! Remember I am Summer 2014? You were a fresh, little

sophomore in high school, examining the academic transcript of your first year. You weren’t happy with the grades that were given and decided for yourself that you would put in your all for the rest of your high school experience. That was your first core memory where your determination beamed inside of you – and you did just that!

Life continued to blossom as the years went by, but the garden of life may go through dry spells from time to time… That glum, heartbreaking Wednesday never leaves your mind. The day you found out Lyssi, your best friend/roommate, got into a tragic car accident right before the end of your undergraduate career. Despite the traumatic loss, you stuck it out and finished your college degree strong, moving through the storm with your flashlight and determination. No matter what endeavors are thrown at you, your head is held high, and you continue to fix the shining crown that lays beautifully on your curly-haired head.

Mismatched Shoes & Victory Donuts Dear Salma , o you remember when the most exciting thing to do was D wear a pair of mismatched shoes to school in the eighth grade?

The trio of you and your hardworking friends hoped to breathe playful disorder into a monotonous day to day. While you always treasured education in its sacredness, you also aimed for its injection with a serum of joy and fervor. The morning assembly gave you an adrenaline rush. As the social worker scanned the body of students for neatly cut nails and lips free of lip-gloss, her face dropped at your odd shoes. It became evident once your two friends were discovered that a conspiracy was taking place.

You and your friends rejected the order of normalcy through a simple act of cheekiness. The talk with the principal later did nothing but provoke more joy. Exceedingly positive were the cheers from classmates and teachers alike once your trio made its way back to the classroom. Who is to blame you for wanting to have a little bit of fun?

You might have abandoned eccentricity for the sake of shocking stunts, but you never quit making risky leaps.

I doubt you would have pictured yourself drenched in the unforgiving rains of Nagoya, hiking up a steep road to The Southern Mountain. At 20 years old, you made it to Japan to study abroad for the summer of 2023. The beginning months of summer in Japan seized the title of “the rainy season.” You got drenched more than once. In this specific occurrence, the sky had betrayed you with a gleaming light. You were also anxious with excitement to meet your friend’s Japanese host mom. Your trek for a house-warming gift successfully warmed your heart as well.

You had previously bought a batch of fresh Japanese peaches and aimed to pair them with cream bread from the bakery you had been eyeing on your way to university every day. Nanzan University was named after the mountain it was perched upon— the Southern Mountain. The bakery keeper was a kind lady who did not hesitate to compliment your Japanese. You have learned by now that this had no implications on the level of your skill and is instead a tribute to the politeness of the speaker. Still, it does not fail to give you the courage to order five warm cream buns—four would be unlucky, and six felt like too much. You chatted with the lady as she bagged your order carefully, but a sound outside crinkled louder than the plastic bags she used. A glance outside declared that the sky’s mood had been dampened. Like clockwork, lightning flashes followed the thunder you had just heard. Your concern fell upon the bread, for you could not live with the crime of turning its dewy goodness into cold dough. You became comforted by the lady’s layers of plastic. Her concern seemed to lie upon yourself, however. You realized at once the criticality of the situation. The university was about 15 minutes away along an uphill slope of the road; you were without an umbrella or a vehicle.

You tried to set off on the road, trusting that all shall be well in a matter of minutes, but the bakery lady called for you to wait. She disappeared into the back of the store, rummaged around, then descended upon you with a weapon enhanced with water resistance. Clutching the umbrella and thanking your new friend from the bakery, you treaded around the puddles as the wind splashed at you playfully.

When you came back the next day to return the borrowed blessing of an umbrella, you met the old lady’s husband, and he smiled knowingly. You bought a couple of victory donuts that time. They were the fluffiest and chewiest donuts you’ve ever had since.

You never quit making risky leaps, but you always landed like a cat (sometimes soaked in rain). In your pursuit of finding meaning or outlining the very silhouette of your being, you came to realize that these shared experiences were what gave breath to your existence. You have come to recognize, however, that being in these situations stems partially by your taking of initiative. If you were to lay upon the tulips of comfort for too long, your allergies are sure to kick off and usher you toward new scenery. Do not be so quick to label your allergies a curse; but an assistant to push you toward change.

I have a cat allergy, but also have a fluffy cat called Shiro, the Japanese word for ‘white.’

I am an only child and my two best friends in college happen to be only children as well.

Envisioning yourself in the future depends heavily on your mood in the present. When you are buried in books of poetry and novels, you see yourself as a published author reading your work to your cat. When you are working on a software project and finally discover the bug that has made your last few nights sleepless, you’ll become excited to do it again in the company of others from whom you can learn and advise. When you are hidden in your room with a warm cup of tea and piece of paper, doodling away, you’ll yearn for a future that allows you to make art for a living. What you choose to never give up is the vision of yourself surrounded by family and friends as you pursue all those endeavors together. Everything you create will be a tapestry of logical progression and artistic liberty. You will create meaningful applications along with story-heavy video games. On breaks, you’ll make your way back to Japan to do karaoke with the friends you made during your trip. Just last year, you were in Dubai, one of the richest cities in the world, celebrating New Year's Eve. That was the first time you were ever in a place where you wore bright summer clothes in 90 degree weather, but it was only two weeks into winter. This made you want to travel to every place you had ever thought of visiting. Life is short, and you’d like to see as much of the world as possible. You also want to move in with your boyfriend and get married while having a career in finance.

I envision you not waiting until you’re in your 60s to retire. I picture you running your own business despite not knowing what type of business that would be yet. You’ll be making up to six figures and be able to go on vacations with your boyfriend or family whenever you please. After being unemployed for nine months after you graduated college, it helped you think about what you want your future to be like.

Ten-Year-Old Triumphs Dear Ananya ,

D

o you remember how at age 10, you overcame various odds and won first place in a singing competition?

Appa (dad) said that he had entered you into a large Carnatic (Indian classical) singing competition! Your first reaction was not excitement or joy. Your reaction was nervousness. Fear. However, you accepted your fate. You practiced diligently, again and again. The notes and words of the song were etched in your head.

You were also enrolled in a dance performance, so you were practicing for that too. The dance performance was scheduled on the same day as the singing competition. One night, after dance practice, you were heading back home on a bike since home was nearby. On the way, you suddenly realized that you forgot your glasses at the practice. You turned your bike the other way to go pick up your glasses. While you were going back, you abruptly hit a mailbox and fell on the road.

Your elbow dragged on the road, and your thumb hit the pavement with the weight of your entire body.

At the doctor’s office, the doctor said that your thumb had suffered a hairline fracture. You would need to wear a cast on your hand for weeks. This meant that you had to wear your cast during the singing and dance performances.

In Carnatic vocal music, you need to keep the beat by using your hand in a very specific manner. You wondered about how you would be able to do that with a cast on your hand. How could you dance with a cast? The questions overwhelmed your young, ten-year-old brain.

Recently, you went to Europe! You saw various cities in Italy, as well as Paris and London. You couldn’t fathom that such a part of the world existed. When you exited the train station in Venice, you were presented with a fascinating view. There were no roads or cars; there was only water and different-sized boats. There were water taxis, water ambulances, water everything. On the first day in Venice, your family decided to have lunch at a small restaurant across from the hotel.

The waiter who served everyone was very kind and accommodated your needs.

Though the restaurant looked small from the outside, the menu and food was of otherworldly quality. The pasta was decadent and creamy. The pizza was so delicious. The tiramisu melted in your mouth. This restaurant was your favorite out of all the restaurants in the entire Europe trip.

Ananya Swaminathan At the competition, you breathed in deeply as your name was called to perform. You saw Amma (mom) in the front row, looking at you with reassuring eyes. Your teacher was sitting right behind you. You looked at the audience, and you instantly became nervous. There was no choice. You had practiced too much to let it go now. You slowly started singing.

Amma nodded her head steadily as you sang. In some places, you went out of breath. In some places, you did not sound like you did when practicing. You kept going, keeping the beat steady with your hand which had a rainbow cast. After you finished, everyone applauded. You simply accepted that an award was impossible, given the mediocre quality of the performance.

The next day in Venice, you were walking around, trying to find another place to eat.

When looking around and seeing a sea of tourists and residents, you saw a familiar face. The waiter from yesterday’s restaurant! And you know what surprised you the most? The waiter recognized you and your family! That waiter served hundreds of people every day, especially in the summer when there were thousands of tourists. He worked at multiple restaurants around the area. Yet, he still recognized your entire family and even remembered dietary needs! That event created a very fond memory for you.

I can confidently say that your future will be filled with life-changing experiences.

Some will be positive, some may be negative. That’s life. However, you will enjoy the small things in life and forever practice gratefulness for all that you have. You will wake up every morning in a cozy home, and make a fulfilling breakfast. When you look outside the window, you will see beautiful trees and the bustling nature. You will enjoy a rewarding career where you are able to make real positive impacts, both within the company and on the people around you. You will come home after a long day and try cooking a new recipe. Or you may just decide to order takeout and watch a movie. W ould you believe me if I told you that your life isn’t what you’ve always imagined it to be?

dreamed of a perfect life– getting married, having kids, and starting your medical career by age 25. Your life is WAY better than that. You are still pursuing medicine but have so much more than that. You own your own business, get to see the world, and have the most loyal and wholesome friends you never knew you needed. Your dream of “being happy” when you are older is in effect as you create clothes and content with your cousin and meet so many wonderful people because of it.

This includes zoom calls with creators and therapists all around the world, markets supporting other small businesses, and working with organizations who truly make a difference in the world. Morgan Bennett Remember when you brought your unicorn to school? No step. Music became your new unicorn. You found comfort in R Michael Jackson’s song “Man in the Mirror,” which was your intro one thought anything of it because it was a clip-on keychain stuffed animal, which was very popular back then and song before announcing the school’s daily lunch menu. You’d your unicorn was cute. That unicorn was also your comfort item.

You have always valued comfort and have never been afraid to stay in your comfort zone, even when others pushed you to venture out beyond your bubble. You encourage others to find their comfort and to embrace their authentic self the way you do; even your style is comfort #leggingsallday.

It’s kind of crazy that a 2nd grader was listening to such a heartfelt song at 7:45 in the morning, but you got a good music ear from your dad, a fellow music enthusiast. That song, as well as music in general, became your comfort. You started playing the piano and violin and have probably listened to trillions of hours of music (btw, you were in the top 1% of Beyonce’s listeners in 2023).

Let’s face it: you’re a nerd; all you wanted to do was go, go, go. The pandemic forced you to slow down and to understand that the comfort your school would bring you daily hurt you more than you thought it would.

Uncertainty fueled your anxiety. Music could no longer carry the weight, so you laid it down and your yoga mat became your safe space.

Yoga was the only thing that could clear your mind, and at the moment, you thought it was just for fun; now you're a certified yoga instructor. The Wisdom of Sanskrit

A

As you already know, Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages in the world. Many even say it is the oldest language. “Ananya” in Sanskrit, and almost every other Indian language, means unique, like no other, matchless. Of course those are just loosely based definitions. The truth is no words can fully describe the weight this word carries. It also just so happens to be your name. The beauty of Sanskrit is that every word has different meanings based on the context it is used in. It is not possible to explain “Ananya” using the English language. Is it an adjective, a noun? Truth is, it's both and neither, and also kind of complicated. “Ananya” grammatically is split into two parts, ‘an’ and ‘anya’. An(un) is a negation and anya(unyuh) can loosely be translated to other, making Ananya, like no other.

The first memory you have is of moving somewhere; you had just turned 7. Little did you know, this was the first domino in the sequence of your life; the catalyst to the years of self-doubt, tears, and the perpetual loneliness that comes with never laying roots. Going to 11 schools really did not allow you to settle down.

You have been to eleven schools in total since kindergarten; and no, your parents are not military, they’re software engineers. The first move you made was from New York to Florida because of your dad's new job. For two and a half years, you went to your zoned elementary school. It was there, in second grade, that your teachers recognized you as a gifted student. Halfway through fourth grade, you finally settled down, or so you thought. Your family bought a house for the first time and you got to go to your new neighborhood's elementary school. You were just getting situated when your parents wanted you to go to another magnet school about 40 minutes from your house. By then, you were just nine months away from arguably the hardest transition in any teenager’s life: middle school. Before you knew it, you were in a new school again, far away from home and everyone you met the year prior again.

Right after sixth grade ended, you and your mom got into a life changing car crash. You had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance and get 300 stitches on your face, as well as plastic surgery to minimize your permanent scar.

In the midst of frequent changes and unforeseen obstacles in your life, resilience served as a guiding force. With eleven schools and multiple relocations, each move brought its own set of challenges.

You learned to take strength from hardship after being recognized as a bright student and dealing with the repercussions of a life-changing vehicle accident after sixth grade. The scars on your face were a visible reminder of your fortitude; a monument to your capacity to survive and triumph. Through these experiences, you discovered an inner strength that continues to mold you, stressing that despite adversity, things always seem to get better.

an you imagine that at eight years old, you would be in the beautiful, blue Miami for a summer trip with your family, exploring the white sandy beaches with your three siblings?

While in Miami, you stumbled upon a coconut tree. Being the adventurous climber you always were, you decided to climb up the tree to fetch some coconuts. With the perfect swaying breeze, sun on your beautiful brown skin, and a vibrant smile on your face, you confidently climbed the tree as Dad looked up at you, not with fear, but with sheer awe. The fruits were hard to pull from the trees so you had to sit there, 25 feet in the air, twisting them until they fell. While remaining determined and courageous, you got four delicious green coconuts and cracked them open to sip on their sweet juices. Despite what your worried grandma said to you once she found out, you confidently told her that everything would be okay. Imagine never losing that spark and confidence within you.

Fast forward ten years; you’re on the enchanting island of Puerto Rico trekking through the most beautiful forest, El Yunque; traveling quicker than all your friends as they try not to lose you.

Always immersed in nature and astounded by its beauty, you never looked back in fear. You even did a backflip off of a rope swing into a freezing pool of water as everyone around you cheered you for your bravery and expertise. Embracing Mistakes & Crafting a Successful Future

t was the first pep rally of the season, and you had just Ifinished your dance on the football field with your varsity cheer

teammates. The energy for the season was the most hype you had ever witnessed while being in high school. Although you were on the track, you could hear the seniors screaming their 2019 chant, your class yelling 2020, and you and your teammates were just as amped to be there since you were finally upperclassmen and halfway out of school. Jumping up and down with joy, you stumbled over a cord, one that must've been from a speaker, and you proceeded to gradually fall on the track and roll into your teammate's stunt group like a bowling ball. At this point, you were used to the embarrassment because it seemed like every year you would fall or trip over something during a game or performance. This time it was a pep rally. You'll never forget that day, not because it was embarrassing, but because it reminds you that making mistakes is not that serious.

Oh, what a journey it was to you wrap up another eye-opening year. You're 21 now, and though life has not been a walk in the park, you've managed to reach your last semester in college. The Fall of 2023 was the most challenging semester you've had. From trying to figure out post-grad plans to aiming to excel in all of your classes, you received your first C in Theology. Water began to form in your eyes once you received the news, but you did not let one tear drop. Instead, you accepted your grade for what it was and typed an email to your professor asking why you received it. Turns out that you misunderstood the directions for an assignment worth 16% of your grade, resulting in you getting zero credit for it. Can you imagine getting a zero for something worth 16% of your grade? Once you realized the mistake, you prayed your GPA wouldn’t drop. Amid panic, you learned that in times when you have no control, you must realize that the situation is no longer in your control and be patient. The next day, report cards came out and you ended the 16-credit semester with three A’s, two B’s, and a C. This resulted in your GPA staying the same because of the three A’s you didn't anticipate receiving. You ran to your roommate's room across the hall and yelled, “God is good!” while dancing with joy. This experience emphasized the fact that everything will always work out.

Can you imagine that by age 21, despite the adversity faced, you would have a 3.7 GPA in college, organize a protest, create a business, work as an internal auditor and consultant, and have your poetry works published by your university? I envision you will own a multi-million dollar company while traveling the world and giving back to the community. You'll be living in a modern home and hosting wonderful events with great friends and you will be well respected in business. In your personal life, you will inhabit the characteristics and habits of many successful people. Every morning you will wake up at 5 a.m., work out, pray, read your word, and get your day started. Every night, you'll create a list of what needs to be accomplished the next day, drink your ginger and turmeric tea, read your selfimprovement book, and end the night with prayer. D id you know that, as much as you tried to fight it, you have never liked being put in a mold?

When you were a four-year-old attending daycare, you and the other children had just finished listening to a Charlie and Lola picture book during story time. Afterwards, a conversation about colors arose and all the children came to the consensus that blue is a boy color and pink is a girl color.

Well, all of the children except for you. As you laid down on that blue vinyl, plastic cot for nap time, you decided that blue was your favorite color and it remained so for 12 years until you realized you liked the color red much more.

For nearly all your life, you have struggled to find a balance between being rebellious just to prove a point and exchanging your wants and desires for love, safety, and validation. However, amid the struggle, you managed to find yourself and experience the incredible daily journey of finding and refining who Ruth is.

Being a pastor’s child, your faith was due to your parents’ position rather than having a personal relationship with God and his son Jesus. Ruth Elendu Could you imagine that a month after the end of your first year in college, you would lose your mom? The emotional turmoil of losing a close parent was immense, but it was also coupled with the isolating environment created by the COVID-19 pandemic; this made the grieving process often unbearable. However, you chose to lean on your siblings, mentors, and classmates. You remembered the meaning of your middle name “Chinonyerem” – God is with me– to get through. You took your grief and decided what legacy you wanted to leave. You were president of four different organizations and worked to fight against human trafficking at the state level. You created a new student organization, The Council on Minority Political Affairs, became an Arabic Critical Language Scholar, and became the first person at Ohio State University to obtain a dual degree in African studies and Middle East studies. You learned resiliency, selfadvocacy, and the beauty of imperfection.

Did you ever think that you would get to the point where you would be able to confidently answer the question, “Where is your home?” A seemingly innocent and simple question that plagued you. However, spending a week in the village, the town of your clan within the Igbo tribe, changed everything. Years ago, you began to reflect on your experiences as a Nigerian and how you often had to defend your culture and people to others who saw Africa as a rundown country that had nothing to offer but violence and poverty. You also had to explain how the Middle East is often discussed in a similar light. After traveling to Nigeria, you came back with a more intense desire to learn about the people living in Africa and the Middle East through direct interactions and experiences. Your journey strengthened your desire to engage in peacebuilding work within the Middle East and Africa.

Beyond Twinhood: Embracing Individuality Dear Ramiyah, an you imagine, that at the age of 19, C you would overcome your belief that you were just a twin?

Your whole life you have been asked the question, “Are you twins?” resulting in an awkward smile and nod of your head.

Sometimes, you would joke around and say, “No, we’re cousins,” and then the askers became the ones awkwardly laughing and smiling. Having a sister that happened to look like you often made you feel like a circus attraction, in which you were not yourself without your other half of entertainment. Those that were curious are not to blame, however, you can't help but think people lost sight of the fact that you were so much more than a twin.

Since grade school, you have been referred to as one of “the twins.” People often struggled to tell you apart from your sister, so they just said “twin” to get your attention. In an attempt to define you, your friends and family contrasted your personalities and characteristics, labeling you the quiet and tall twin. As a young tenyear-old confused with tears rolling down your face, you felt like you had no identity of your own; only the identity that contrasted your other half. You continuously tried to break apart from your sister, but nothing seemed to work.

Pushing Towards Success Dear J’Mya ,

Y ou wouldn’t believe me if I told you persevered through years of childhood depression and anxiety and graduated college with the highest honor.

You have been naturally gifted from the very beginning. At only 8 years old, you became a competitive gymnast and went on to win many competitions and collect dozens of medals and trophies. All the while, you always strived to be at the top of your class, constantly finding yourself with all A’s on your report card and congratulations from family and friends for school and sports alike. Being an amazing gymnast and smart kid seemed great on the outside, but it was lonely, and we were the only ones who understood the inner turmoil you struggled with every day.

Growing up as a black girl was not easy.

You were constantly surrounded by people who didn’t look like you, so you never felt like you fit in. You dealt with microaggressions from your classmates and teammates on top of society telling you that because of the color of your skin, you had no value. That’s why you worked so hard to be the best, to prove them wrong, but it took the biggest mental toll on you that you’re still learning to recover from to this day.

When you quit gymnastics at 14 to find a new path for yourself, you became more lost than you had ever been before. All that success from childhood puts thousands of pounds of pressure on your shoulders and constantly made you feel like if you weren’t the best, you didn’t deserve anything. Growing up in a family with a huge generation gap, no one was around your age, so you felt like you had no one to talk to, you isolated yourself, and felt like no one understood you even when you did manage to open up to others. This caused you to struggle with chronic depression throughout high school and college, and it fed that anxiety in you that existed from the start. You lost friends and hobbies you used to love, but little did you know, life was just about to start feeling worth living very soon.

I see you moving out of Florida and living in a colorful two-story home filled with plants. You will have a big backyard that has a fireplace, garden, and an outdoor kitchen. You will be married to a loving partner with at least 2 cats or dogs and a leopard gecko. In your free-time, you will play video games on a PC that you built yourself (in your own game room), invite friends over and have cookouts, tend to your garden, visit family, and exercise.

While travelling with friends, family, or by yourself, you will wear halter tops, bucket hats, sweaters, and long skirts that you personally crocheted and seek out new and fun adventures in other countries. I also see you exploring spirituality and creating a work-life balance that gives you plenty of time for people and hobbies you love.

J'Mya Brooks to London and Paris for a week with your mom. It was your first time outside of the United States and you loved every second of it. Experiencing new cultures, new foods, new scenery, and new languages sparked something in you that you hadn’t felt in a long time. From that experience on, you knew that you couldn’t shackle yourself to one place forever; you developed a passion for travel and to see everything the world has to offer.

When you entered college as a freshman, you still hadn’t discovered a major that fit quite right and that made you anxious about your future. You learned about many different career paths over the years, but none of them sparked a passion in you like travel did. However, you did discover one thing about yourself while in college: you knew you wanted to help people.

Whether it was helping classmates with projects and assignments, or helping your mom recover from COVID-19, you knew that helping people fed your soul. That led you to discover the field of public health and not long after that, you were blessed with the chance to have your first remote working job. From there, the future became something that made you a little less anxious and a lot more excited.

Do you remember that time you stood in front of the entire congregation on Easter Sunday in your sparkly Easter dress? Do you remember your big smile and your pressed hair with the pretty bello hairballs?

Do you also remember how you forgot the lines to the Easter speech Ms.Cook gave you (that you and Mom memorized for weeks)? You didn’t know it then, but God was laughing with joy as He prepared you for the journey life had in store for you. It has not been easy, but Jamya, let me tell you, He’s never left.

You’ve transitioned schools a few times, and with a peace that transcends human understanding, you and Mom have made the leap each time. I wish I could tell you that you would not experience heartbreaks along the way. I wish I could tell you that your father would finally come to see you speak on Easter Sunday, or that all the friendships you made would last forever. I cannot tell you those things, Jamya. But I can tell you that at each school God brings you to, you excelled. Straight A’s was your groove, and by the time you graduated high school, you played everything from basketball to volleyball, swimming to track and field. Ultimately though, your heart will always belong to the band, and to the color guard.

Here’s what I can tell you though: when you walked across the stage at Apopka High School, during a global pandemic, you had a full-ride scholarship to one of the top Historically Black Universities in the United States. Ebonie’s Workspace Fun Facts I hate waking up to loud alarms and am pleasantly surprised when I wake up just before the alarm goes off so that I don’t have to wake up to that annoying sound.

You can sometimes find me in the bathroom dancing to Caribbean or Afrobeats music while getting dressed to go out.

I’m highly intuitive, but rarely tell others. Consider yourself lucky to know that if you’re reading this considering that I rarely speak on it and sometimes play dumb like I’m not.

I love looking at pretty pics of the snow, but have almost zero motivation to visit a cold place with snow. I’d probably never travel to Antarctica if visiting every continent wasn’t already on my non-existent bucket list.

I cook because my family and I need to eat, not because it’s a hobby. But once I’m in the kitchen be assured that my food will turn out flavorful and you’ll be full.

Dolphins are my fave mammal. I have a tribal dolphin tat and a couple of my good friends still buy me things that have a dolphin somewhere on it. If I see a dolphin at the beach or a statue of a dolphin just know we’re stopping to take a pic mid-conversation.

I’m a free spirit and sometimes get under the skin of ultra conservatives or corporate America even though I help a lot of people land corporate jobs that they love!

I LOVE cake (i.e pineapple upside down cake & red velvet cake… yum) and don’t care about eating cookies unless it’s a warm Crumbl cookie. If you’ve never heard of them or ordered them then GOOD, you’ve just possibly saved yourself from gaining 10 pounds in the next 3 months.

I’m very often asked to be in the spotlight, but most of the time I couldn’t care less about being in the spotlight. I enjoy kicking it with friends, fam, and people that value work-life integration/harmony (Ikigai), fun, reduced stress, and serving with their gifts and don’t necessarily have to be in the spotlight to shine & thrive.

Rediscovering Your Purpose Dear Drew, you imagine that at ten years old, you would decide C ould the career you want to do for the rest of your life?

As a child, remember how you actually enjoyed going to the doctor’s office? You loved entering the jungle themed doctor’s office, looking at the fish in the giant aquarium, and playing with the doctor’s stethoscope. On top of that, you loved science! So at just ten years old, you made the decision that you would become a doctor and your life from then until about three years ago was all about achieving that goal. You had tunnel vision.

Fast forward to 2020 and you’re in the middle of the worst pandemic in over 100 years. You were sitting at home with nothing to do, but sit with your thoughts. For so long, you had been so focused on a distinct plan and a goal, that this was the first time in a long time where you actually were able to pause and think about your future and what you really wanted out of life. As you sat there, immersed in your thoughts, you began to contemplate things like work-life balance, other interests, and your freedom and ability to travel. Then one night, you were laying in bed at your parents house, surrounded by the same purple walls that had been there since you were thirteen; you had a revelation that maybe this isn’t the right career for you. This posed the question: what is the right career for you?

For the first time in your life, you had no end goal, no plan, just a vision of what life should look like when you finally reached success. You started to think: “What do I want to do and how am I going to get to where I want to be?” Even though most 23 yearolds had the same thoughts, you felt alone, lost and behind, because you had no plan and for the first time in life, you were forced to explore yourself and the world to figure out what you actually enjoyed doing. Two years passed and you still weren’t sure what you wanted to do in life, but you realized that that’s okay and you decided to finally be okay with being on this journey of self-exploration and discovery. You know that this is all part of the process and with a little grace and patience, you’ll figure it out.

imagine that at 18 you would be proud of who C youCanareyoubecoming?

You’re leaving the insecurities behind,

or more so, not letting them define you. You are finally learning that it isn't others’ opinions that define you. It was a hard lesson, but now you can finally say that your opinion about yourself is above all. Although this may seem minor, to you, this is everything.

Loving yourself was a goal you hadn’t thought about too much until you looked back and realized just how much time you spent seeking external validation. Now you have realized you are enough and that, is more than enough.

Traveling more this year and interacting with new people has made you realize that there is so much in life you want to explore.

Going to Mexico and seeing your family content with a simple meal and a roof over their heads made you appreciate the simple things in life. They have no modern technology including: stoves, laptops, heaters, AC, Wi-Fi etc. They depend on one another for entertainment and help each other out with everything. This, most of all made you realize that, for the most part, we make life so much harder than it needs to be. This experience made you think about the opportunities you have access to versus that of your family. Yet, they seemed so much more fulfilled with life. They taught you many things. That’s why you live everyday with the sole intent of appreciating the small things and most importantly finding joy in them. The bad things are not worth focusing on when there is so much good around us.

I envision that in the future I will travel to many places, including Spain which has been my dream destination to visit. I will almost always be dressed in flowy, easy going attire when I'm not working. Sun dresses and long flowy skirts will be my go-to. I will hopefully be a Marketing Manager for a company where I am able work both remotely and in-person when needed. I will continue on my fitness journey and always fill my free time doing activities such as: hiking, biking, swimming etc. I will also learn how to surf. I envision having a yellow Jeep, that I will primarily use for road-trips. I will make it a priority to spend time with myself by doing the things that I love. When I decide to get married, I will settle down somewhere near the beach. This way, when I decide to have a family I can take my kids and golden retriever down to the beach and show them just how beautiful nature is. Along with this, we will continue to travel as a family, both by flying and road tripping. Overall, God, my family and my personal improvement will be my priorities to which I hope to dedicate all my time to. I know there is always going to be more to learn and work on but, I'm up for the challenge and excited to discover what the future holds.

The Journey to Art by Lunamar Dear Marie-Ange , ould you believe me if I told you your W surprise pregnancy would push you to being a successful full-time artist?

When you were a young girl, your mum made sure you tried everything you had even the slightest interest in. Coming from the little island Trinidad and Tobago, she wanted to make sure if you ever decided to leave to study abroad, no one could ever say you were less of or lacking anything. You did drumming, steelpan, guitar, piano, karate, taekwondo, swimming, football, ballet, tap dancing, and the list goes on. But the one thing that always stayed with you throughout the years was always your artistic abilities. From making Christmas decorations in the oven to smashing tiles you found in the backyard, you meddled in it all. I remember each and every art project you took part in; your mum would sit down with you to sketch the idea until it was completely finished. Most times, that would be until 3am because you always did things last minute and it was due the next day.

When you got to college at the University of Tampa, you weren't as sure of yourself as you once were. That bubbly little girl that knew she wanted to be the biggest artist in the world was lost in society's standards of “a good profession.” You changed your degree major 5 times. At first, you wanted to be a psychiatrist,

but those science subjects were perpetuating.

Then, you tried to be a psychologist; less science, but the bore of it remained. Maybe an English teacher would be a cool idea, and everyone would still respect your stability of a job. This went on until you only had two years left of college. Until one day, it was like a switch had just turned on, you decided you were going to try art one more time. You changed your degree to art, and it was like you found yourself again. That dream the little girl in you once had didn't seem so far-fetched anymore.

You continued doing classes, your art got better and better, and schoolwork became fun! You met amazing friends that you still have to this day; you found your tribe. As you began to enjoy what you did, it showed. You were glowing. Magazines reached out to you to be featured, you were selling art at big art shows all over Tampa and even overseas.

Finally, you were living your true path. Until one day, life as you knew it would be changed forever.

As you finished college, your baby girl decided to surprise you five months after she was hiding in your belly. You were left with four months to prepare to be a mommy physically and mentally. At first, it was such an emotional rollercoaster, your career had to come to a halt because this new life you were about to bring into the world instantly came first, no question about it. You took a year off your career and poured love into your angel that you didn't realize you could love so much. Once she was old enough, you had a newfound drive and reason to succeed in life. You had to pave your way for your baby girl to have a future and a life that she deserved. You rebranded yourself using your name and your daughter’s as she was part of all of your creative processes. She was there 24/7 while you painted, while you designed, and more. Art by Lunamar was born.

In January 2023, you took the biggest leap of your life and quit your corporate job to pursue being a full-time artist. And here you are.

My advice to you is to keep going, keep pushing and creating because you love it and let the positives push you through it all. Some months are going to be easier than the others and that's okay. It's all part of the process. The moment you fall in love with each step you take is when your career becomes your happiness and not a job. Your future is already written and it's full of success. Surrounded by all the right connections in the art and professional world. You are creating art in your studio space on your free days when it’s family time, and being booked to paint murals all over the world, getting to travel with your family while you do what you love. Out of Your Comfort Zone I

Dear Nyla ,

t was the summer of 2016, and you just started your first summer job as a camp counselor and gymnastics instructor. It was going to be a very hot day so you made sure that you had all of the essentials you may need throughout the day. Before you left the house, you triple checked to make sure that you had your sunscreen so you wouldn't get a sunburn from the scorching hot sun. Butterflies began to form in your stomach when the kids started to arrive. It felt like as the day began, the chaos started simultaneously. The day proceeded, and your qualities of becoming a camp counselor were tested. You dealt with 5-yearolds crying over what you believed to be silly things, such as who can play with who or who is sitting with who at lunch. However, towards the end, you realized how special this summer was.

This was the very first time you showed leadership skills and enhanced your communication skills. You were very proud of yourself because you were so nervous about messing up and not being a great counselor for the kids. In the end, the kids told you that you were the best counselor they had and that they were going to miss you dearly. This experience taught you that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. From then on, you told yourself to always keep a positive mindset and be optimistic about any opportunity you were presented with in life.

Throughout college, you always had a theme for each semester.

One semester in particular that you’ll never forget was the fall of 2023. This semester’s theme was called "Out of My Comfort Zone." You chose this theme because it was your first time taking science classes and having a very long school schedule.

Chemistry was challenging for you, and you were devastated every time you received your test scores back. Everyday, you were tutored by classmates, tirelessly stayed up late at night, and woke up early to study even more. Anxiety started to form in your body as you took your weekly quizzes. You were mentally and physically exhausted. This was your first time receiving bad grades and you were very uncomfortable with that. After the second month of taking chemistry, you made a responsible decision to drop the class and take a different science class in the spring. Although you were upset at having to drop the chemistry course, it forced you to look at the bright side. You realized that everything was going to be okay and that dropping a course was not the end of the world.

Nyla Johnson Can you imagine with all the obstacles you faced, you’d still be a stellar scholar and receive over $50,000 worth of scholarship money in your academic career? On top of that, you are very involved in your community and love to help people when they are in need. Helping the community brings joy to your heart. It makes you feel like you’re making a difference in someone else's life.

I envision that in the future, you will live in a penthouse in the downtown area of Chicago. You will be a CPA who travels often, and during your free time, you will travel out of the country with close friends who share the same mindset and goals as you.

Eventually, you will travel to every country in the world and experience all the different cultures the world has to offer.

Finding Serenity Dear Samantha,, an you imagine at the age of 21, not being riddled with C anxiety 24/7 but living a peaceful and happy life?

Looking back into the past you battled with fear, self-doubt and depression. You walked a path with many cracks in the road and fell hard due to failure or self-doubt but, despite all of that, you kept going. That experience pushed you to become a beautiful, confident and happy lady. Of course, you still have moments where you doubt or are filled with anxiety, however when you fall it isn’t as difficult to get back up compared to before. I still have a lot to learn, but I assure you that your 15-year-old self wouldn’t have been able to identify her 21-year-old self.

At the age of 21, you did things that you would never have imagined, such as moving out of the house and slowly becoming independent. Taking the risk of not going straight into the University and entering a Design Bootcamp to become a UX Designer while working part-time as a Behavior Interventionist.

You even found the time and a way to afford dance classes, something you have always wanted to do growing up. Not only that, but you have traveled to Mexico all by yourself! This was possible with the support and love of family and friends. But also attainable by loving and believing in yourself. Learning to trust, care and love yourself is crucial when growing into the person you want to be. It is true when they say your only obstacle is yourself because if you believe in yourself, there is nothing you can’t do.

Keeping that positive mentality in mind, can you imagine at the age of 30 you will be living your dream life? By 30, you own a beautiful apartment with an incredible view of the bay area, which you share with your partner and adorable dog. Not only do you and your partner live together but, you also travel worldwide together. You’ve been to Korea, Japan and South America with each other. You have visited Europe numerous times, not exclusively with your partner but with your sister and friends as well. Though you travel and work a lot, you still manage to find time for your family and friends. You’ve gotten better at reaching out to family and friends, because of that you’ve managed to create a beautiful connection with them. He continued to develop his artistic gifts at the University of Connecticut where he received his Bachelor of Fine Art. It was there that he fell in love with photography and processing prints in the darkroom.

Atkinson has received widespread recognition for her vibrant artwork and she was recently named as one of Tallahassee's 25 Women You Need To Know! She has been published by multiple media outlets including both the covers of Tallahassee Woman Magazine and Tallahassee Magazine. Her recent solo exhibitions include the Tallahassee Int'l Airport Artport Gallery with COCA and Jefferson Arts Gallery. Her art and home decor have also been featured in Travel Pulse Magazine (N.J), Bay Magazine (Tampa), Tallahassee Democrat, Greater Works TV Network and Visit Tallahassee. Atkinson's artwork was chosen as the 'cover art' for Big Bend Cares Artopia which is the l

argest charity art auction in Florida's capital. She has also served as a judge for ArtsQuest in Sandestin which brings in over 5,000 people and 100 artisans.

Quia explains, "I am continually learning & experimenting with new techniques and consistently challenging myself on this journey. Every artwork starts as merely an idea in my mind and once the resin and paint start to flow I have no choice but to follow it wherever it leads me. The ability to create is a gift from God and it is deeply rewarding to materialize my ideas into reality. "
