• Gynecology surgery includes any surgical procedure that involves the organs and structure of the female pelvic region: the uterus, ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva.
There are many reasons why a woman might need to undergo gynecology surgery. She may need treatment for a condition such as endometriosis, fibroids (benign tumors), ovarian cysts, cancer, chronic pelvic pain, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine prolapse or abnormal bleeding. Gynecology surgery can also be used as permanent birth control.
• Fibroids: Noncancerous growths in the uterus that can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and other symptoms.
• Endometriosis: A condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to pain and infertility.
• Ovarian Cysts: Fluid-filled sacs that can form on the ovaries and may cause pain or other complications.
• Pelvic Organ Prolapse: A condition where the pelvic organs (such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum) descend into the vaginal canal, often due to weakened pelvic floor muscles.
