Interview

with Wellness+ Studio's

Eva Peña

Eva has such an inspiring and amazing story! Here are just a few glimpses into that story from our interview with Eva. We'd love to make the full interview available on alternate platforms, so stay tuned!

Q: Was wellness a value you grew up with, or did you grow up lacking it?

I definitely didn't grow up with anything related to wellness being a significant part of my life It was actually the opposite When I was growing up in the Dominican Republic, I was perceived by most people as sick and weak My mother never allowed me to go into sports or take physical education classes I actually didn't get to the gym until I was 28! At the time, I was going through a difficult period in my life, having graduated from college with honors and scholarships, in a challenging career, married, had three kids, and was in the process of divorce, all before the age of thirty It was only when a friend took me to an aerobics class and I saw the weightlifters in the gym did I find the activity that would save me from myself

Q: When you found your passion for wellness, how did it grow to become Wellness+ Studio?

Going to the gym was my escape, where my mental and physical health transformed, and I felt happier despite my circumstances My family saw how important that was to me, and my mom even gave me money to keep going when we faced financial difficulties I had quit my career as a civil engineer to care for my kids, but while they were at school, I took up some classes to learn the science behind the changes I saw in my body I studied nutrition and the physiology of exercise, got an international personal trainer certification, and competed in several bodybuilding competitions I felt so good, and people saw the impact I built a reputation for myself, leading people to actually ask to train with me!

Then life led me to the U.S., where I had to start over. I went from gym to gym using their free entry classes to see the people and environments, attempting to find a job When I finally found one, I didn't know English and struggled to understand people and their accents The clients who were patient with me during that time because they saw that I was a good trainer, including Mike Ennis, are still my clients today

It was when I was training with Mike in the park when gyms were closed during the pandemic that he said, “Don't you think this could turn into something bigger?” which led to him and Mrs. von Liebig giving me the breathtaking opportunity to work on what I love to do and create this dream that is Wellness+ Studio I couldn't be more grateful for Mrs and Mike and the wild journey that led me here

Q: What goals and things are you hoping for yourself and Wellness+ Studio?

I want to make W+S successful; it's my new baby! Now that my kids are grown and finding their paths in life, W+S is my new family. As I grow with my real family, I want to keep growing with W+S as it expands. I put my home, heart, and mind into W+S, which gives me the certainty that it will succeed.

DRAX Productions

As part of the refocusing of OPERATIC, director Kevin Newbury and DRAX Productions General Manager Daniel Biaggi spent a few hours with Christian Van Horn, currently singing at the Metropolitan Opera in La Boheme and Aida, to capture an in-depth interview for one of the episodes The team rented a beautiful loft in Brooklyn to film, which made for a perfect urban, artistic, and musical setting, especially since Christian plays rock guitar to balance his hectic life on the road

Christian discussed: his path to opera what fascinates him about opera what challenges he sees for the field how opera has enriched but also made his personal life difficult the terrible financial conditions at the beginning of an opera career the importance of physical health as an opera singer his work-out regime his very successful podcast and much more!

Christian ended up talking about this experience on his podcast; you can listen to his thoughts here: https://www christianvanhorn com/po dcast
