Österreichs älteste und größte Alltagsradfahrer-Lobby
ARGUS: Seit 34 Jahren aktiv für den Fahrradverkehr 1979 Eine Gruppe, die sich mit dem Stadtverkehr in Wien befasst, organisiert eine sehr erfolgreiche Radsternfahrt, auch in Linz und Graz gibt es Raddemos. Gründung „Arbeitsgemeinschaft umweltfreund licher Stadtverkehr“, kurz ARGUS. In OÖ entsteht der EAMDC – Erster und Anziger Mutiger Drahtesel-Club, ab 1993 als ARGUS OÖ geführt. 1983 ARGUS konzentriert sich auf Radverkehr. Radfahrorganisationen gründen den europäischen Dachver band ECF. 1984 erste DRAHTESEL-Ausgabe sowie ARGUS-„Fahrrad-Schleichwe geplan“ im Falterverlag, Stadt Wien setzt „Radwegekoordinator“ ein. 1985 ARGUS zu Ortsverhandlungen in Wien eingeladen, Fahrradtransport in U-Bahn erlaubt, das ARGUS-Fahr radbüro in Wien 4, Frankenberggasse eröffnet. 1986 Fahrradmitnahme in den S-Bahn-Garnituren der ÖBB durch gesetzt, 1. Auflage des „ARGUS-Stadt plan Wien für RadfahrerInnen“ (derzeit 8. Auflage) erscheint, 1. für den Radverkehr in Gegenrichtung geöffnete Einbahn eingerichtet. 1989–1990 organisiert ARGUS einen internationalen Fahrrad-Kon gress in Salzburg „VeloSecur 90“: (350 Teilnehmende), die Broschüre „Fahrrad im Verkehr“ (ARGUS/VCÖ) erscheint; als neuer Radwegekoordi nator wird in Wien der bis heute tätige Ing. Franz Blaha eingesetzt. 1992 ARGUS-Fahrrad-Klimatest „Wie fahrradfreundlich ist Ihre Stadt?“ (Graz gewinnt), Radfahren auf Busspur durchgesetzt. 1992–1994, 1997 „ARGUS-Fahr radtage“ auf dem Wiener Rathaus platz (ab 1999 jährlich unter „ARGUS- Bike-Festival“) 1993 Mitarbeit am Wiener Ver kehrskonzept, Parkraumbewirtschaf tung in Wien, radverkehrsfreundli cher Umbau der Wiener Neubaugasse erreicht. 1994 „Fachkommission Verkehr“ eingerichtet (bis heute mit ARGUS- Teilnahme beratend tätig). 1995 Fahrradmitnahme in fast allen IC´s, ARGUS-Enquete „Radver kehr im beengten Straßenraum“ im Rathaus, ARGUS-Demo in Maria hilfer Straße für Mehrzweckstreifen. ARGUS: An active champion of cycling for 34 years cc1979: Demo für den Fahrradverkehr in der Stadt, die Geburtsstunde der ARGUS cc1979: Demonstration for urban bicycle traffic: the birth of ARGUS fen-Markierungen in Wiener Ge schäftsstraßen, Einsatz für überfahr bare Haltestellenkaps für Radverkehr. 1997 Mountainbiken im Wienerwald durchgesetzt, ARGUS organisiert Radverkehrskoordinatoren-Treffen in Wien. 1998 ARGUS-Tirol setzt Radmit nahme in Bus und Bim durch, die Bahn-Radsperrzeiten durch ARGUS- Aktion aufgehoben. Gründung ARGUS Steiermark 1999 Velo-City-Kongress in Graz/ Maribor, Mitorganisator ARGUS Steiermark 2000 In Wien konzentriert sich ARGUS auf die vermehrte Umsetzung von Radstreifen auf der Fahrbahn, für den Radverkehr geöffnete Busspuren erreicht. 2002 ARGUS-Fahrrad-Klimatest (Stadt Salzburg gewinnt), Installie rung eines Radverkehrskoordinators in Graz auf ARGUS Stmk.-Anregung 2005 ARGUS organisiert Tagung „Radwege oder Radstreifen?“, erfolg reiches Rad-Schulprojekt. 2007–13 Radlobby Österreich Gründungsphase 2008 ARGUS Stmk.: Mitarbeit am steirischen Radverkehrskonzept (Neuauflage 2013), Entwicklung Grazer Hauptradrouten. 2009 Erstmals 100.000 Besucher/ innen am ARGUS-Bike-Festival! 2011–12 DRAHTESEL Re-Design, Generalversammlung der ECF ge meinsam mit Radlobby.IGF in Wien organisiert. 2013 StVO neu unter Mitarbeit der ARGUS bringt u.a. teilweise Aufhe bung der Radwegbenutzungspflicht.
1979 A group of individuals concerned with urban traffic in Vienna organises a very successful bicycle rally; other demonstrations are held in Linz and Graz. Foundation of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft umweltfreundlicher Stadtverkehr” (working group for environmentally friendly urban traffic, Germany acronym “ARGUS”). EAMDC (Erster und Anziger Mutiger Drahtesel-Club) is established in Upper Austria; as of 1993, it takes the name ARGUS Upper Austria. 1983 ARGUS focuses on bicycle traffic. Bicyclists’ organisations found the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) as an umbrella body. 1984 First issue of DRAHTESEL and ARGUS “Fahrrad-Schleichwegeplan” (bike shortcut map) published by Falter Verlag. The City of Vienna appoints a Cycle Way Co-ordinator. 1985 ARGUS is invited to participate in traffic negotiations in Vienna; bike transport by Underground is permitted; an ARGUS bicycle office in Vienna’s Frankenberggasse is inaugurated. 1986 Bicycles may be transported in S-Bahn commuter trains of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) due to ARGUS’ efforts; the 1st edition of the ARGUS bike city map of Vienna is published (currently in its 8th edition); first permission for cyclists to travel against car traffic in a one-way street. 1989-1990 ARGUS organises the international bicycle congress “VeloSecur ‘90” (350 participants) in Salzburg; the brochure “Fahrrad im Verkehr” (ARGUS/VCÖ) is published; Ing. Franz Blaha is appointed the new Cycle Way Co-ordinator for Vienna and is still serving in this capacity. 1992 ARGUS bicycle climate test “How bicycle-friendly is your city?” (won by Graz); bicycles may travel in bus lanes due to ARGUS’ efforts. 1992-1994, 1997 “ARGUS Bicycle Days” in Vienna City Hall Square (held annually from 1999 under the heading “ARGUS Bike Festival”). 1993 Participation in Vienna Transport Concept development and parking space management for Vienna; bicycle-friendly redesign of Vienna’s Neubaugasse attained due to ARGUS’ efforts.
1994 The Expert Commission for Traffic is set up (active to this day, always with the participation of ARGUS). 1995 Bicycles may be taken along on nearly all inter-city trains; ARGUS survey “Bicycle Traffic in Tight Urban Space” presented at Vienna City Hall; ARGUS demonstration for multi-purpose lanes in Mariahilfer Strasse; ARGUS applies to host the Velo-city conference in Vienna. 1996 Activities to promote multi-purpose lane markings in Vienna’s shopping streets; ARGUS advocates the crossing of bus/tram borders by bike. 1997 Successful campaign to permit mountain biking in the Vienna Woods; ARGUS organises a meeting of cycle way co-ordinators in Vienna. 1998 ARGUS Tyrol successfully campaigns to permit the transport of bicycles on buses and trams; time limitations for transporting bikes aboard trains are abolished due to ARGUS’ activities. Foundation of ARGUS Styria. 1999 The Velo-city conference in Graz/ Maribor is co-organised by ARGUS Styria. 2000 In Vienna, ARGUS focuses on promoting the installation of bicycle lanes on car traffic surfaces; bus lanes are opened to bicycles. 2002 ARGUS bicycle climate test (won by Salzburg); a Cycle Way Co-ordinator for Graz is appointed on a suggestion by ARGUS Styria. 2005 ARGUS organises the meeting “Cycle Ways or Bike Lanes?”; launching of successful bicycle project for schools. 2007-13 Foundation phase of Radlobby Österreich. 2008 ARGUS Styria: participation in Styrian Bicycle Traffic Concept (updated in 2013), development of main bicycle routes for Graz. 2009 The 100,000th visitor mark is exceeded at the ARGUS Bike Festival! 2011-12 DRAHTESEL redesign; the ECF General Assembly is organised jointly with Radlobby.IGF in Vienna. 2013 A Road Traffic Regulations amendment with the co-operation of ARGUS inter alia results in a partial suspension of the legal obligation for cyclists to use cycle ways.
