This weekend sees us take on Caerau Ely, a club I know very well from my time managing there. They’re a strong, well organised side with plenty of quality all over the pitch, and I’ve no doubt they’ll have ambitions of being right up there in the league table come the end of the season. They’ll arrive full of confidence, but that’s exactly the sort of challenge we relish.
We come into the game still searching for our first league points after two narrow defeats. On paper, that might paint a disappointing picture, but if you’ve been at the matches, you’ll know there’s been a lot to admire about our performances. The lads have worked tirelessly, created chances, and shown the character I want to see from a Cardiff Dracs side. A few small moments have gone against us, but we’ve been competitive in both fixtures and could easily have come away with a different outcome.
Football often rewards persistence, belief and hard work, three things I see in abundance in this squad. Training levels have been excellent, the attitude spot on, and there’s a growing understanding between players that will only make us stronger as the season goes on.
While Caerau Ely will come here as favourites, we’re embracing that underdog tag. We know what we’re capable of, and if we stick together, play our game and stay disciplined, there’s every chance we can get the result we’re looking for.
To our supporters, your backing means everything. You’ve been brilliant so far, and I know your voices from the stands make a real difference. Let’s give you something to cheer about this weekend.

Carmarthen Town 2–1 Cardiff Draconians
LHP Stadium, Carmarthen – 9 August 2025 – Attendance: 243
Carmarthen Town edged past Cardiff Draconians in a tight encounter at the LHP Stadium, taking all three points in front of 243 spectators, including a good away following for the Dracs.
In a closely fought first half, despite both the Sam’s (Roberts and Cawley) sharing good early opportunities for the Dracs, the home side took the lead just before the break when the ever lively Keyon Reffell seized on some defensive hesitation and struck in first-half stoppage time. The Dracs back line had held up well until then, evenly sharing out a number of blocks to frustrate a good Carmarthen side.
After Dan Bowen fashioned a good chance that went narrowly over the crossbar, Marinho Manga’s introduction to the game seemingly tipped the midfield battle in The Dracs favour, but it was Carmarthen who doubled their lead in the 66th minute through Luke Cummings. His corner was misjudged at the near post and time seemed to stand still as the ball bypassed everyone to find the far corner. It was a rare poor moment for the visiting side who had continued to defend resiliently and threaten on the ball.
The Dracs responded well to the disappointment of conceding, pushed forward and halved the deficit on 70 minutes when another substitute Myles Corson was fastest to react in the box and found the net, assisted by Jamal Roberts. The visitors continued to press, boosted by the aerial threat of Jon McMenemy, and attacking impetus of Kazadi and Luke Evans, however despite chances, could not find an equaliser.
Carmarthen held firm to secure the win, while Cardiff Draconians will rue missed opportunities as they pushed for a point.
