Coffee Talk • 1:30–2:30pm Suggested donation for each Coffee Talk is $3 Thursday, May 10 Cemetery Walk, Art of the Chicagoland Cemetery with Lori M. Barrett Join Des Plaines History Center staff member, Lori M. Barrett, as she takes us on a digital walking tour of headstones and history in the cemeteries of the Chicagoland area. Thursday, June 14 Building the Canal to Save Chicago Author Richard Lanyon will be discussing his book Building the Canal to Save Chicago, which tells the story of the complexity of implementing a massive and innovative public works engineering system to save Chicago from a perilous nuisance and public health crisis.

Thursday, July 12 Speaker TBA Thursday, August 9 Operation Freedom–The Berlin Airlift Anette Isaacs will discuss the Berlin Airlift of 1948. To Ms. Isaacs it was perhaps one of the greatest adventures in American military history, and she will explain why! Thursday, September 13 Speaker TBA

Children’s Programs All Children’s Program funding is provided by Kiwanis International Wednesday, May 16 Making Ancient Roman Frescos 3:45–5:00 pm at $2 members, $4 non members Program suitable for ages 5–12 (Children must be accompanied by an adult.) Registration required, contact Adam at 847-391-5399 to register Salve! This program will teach children about the ancient art of Fresco painting. In the end, children will have made their own painted Fresco on plaster.

Wednesdays: July 11, July 18, August 8, August 15 Afternoon Adventures: Specific Program Crafts TBA $1 members, $2 non-members • Programs suitable for ages 5–12 Children must be accompanied by an adult. • No registration required Once again, the History Center will host our popular Afternoon Adventures summer program for kids. This summer, we’re celebrating “Illinois Native Americans” by doing creative projects. Programs are held on selected Wednesdays throughout the summer. Drop in any time between 1pm and 3pm for an educational, hands-on project. Look for these programs and workshops coming soon: Inside the Archives: Student Workshop What do historians look for in archival material? How is that material analyzed and used in research papers? This program will teach high school seniors and college freshmen how to conduct school research by using our archives. Adult Workshop: Learn how to research your home or family history our archives.
