t is almost that time of year again…the Board of Directors’ election. This year there are 2 positions that will expire.

The Board of Directors are elected by your neighborhood’s Neighborhood Representatives.

This year the election will be on Thursday, March 26. Each neighborhood gets one vote.

A Board Member is a very valuable asset to the Association and the ideal candidate is willing to serve his fellow property owners and the Association by making important decisions that are in the best interest for everyone in the Association.

Board Members will need to devote several hours of time each month for association business. In addition, monthly board meetings will typically last 2 hours. Board meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month except for November and December. In addition to attending these monthly board meetings, there are four (4) Quarterly Representative meetings per year that you will need to attend and from time to time a Special Meeting of the Board may be called.

Calendar

Most communication is done via email and you will need to participate in the email discussions. The Board votes on many issues including approving the annual budget, determining the annual assessment amount, approving expenditures, repairs and maintenance, replacing aging infrastructure, reviewing contracts from vendors and more.

Card Keys to Greatwood Ammenities

Lane Swimming: Since the warm weather has now arrived, I would like to remind everyone about the rules for lane swimming.

Pool 2 is open from 6 am until 10 am for this purpose.

You must sign an updated waiver and have your pool card re-activated to be able to enter the pool. You will also be given a new gate code at that time. There is a lock box on both sides of the gate. Each uses the same code. The inside lock is to prevent unauthorized persons to get into the area once someone has gained access to swim.

s always, the Board of Directors are committed to keeping Greatwood one of the best communities in the Sugar Land area.

To that effect, your Board of Directors and the Management of the Homeowner’s Association have been in the process of updating the card reader system on the tennis court, bathrooms and pool gates.

All lane swimmers must have a “buddy” with them. No solo swimming is permitted as there are no life-guards on duty during this time.

In doing so, we have discovered that some cards did not upload properly to the new system. If you are planning to use the tennis courts after normal business hours, please test your card out ahead of time. This way if your card doesn’t work, the office staff can assist you in getting it fixed.

Pool Cards: Pool cards are available at the office during business hours. The first card is free. Additional or replacement cards are $25 and must be paid by check or money order.

Business hours are Mon & Wed – 9-11 AM and Tues & Thurs 1-3PM.

We apologize if you should run into an issue and will work hard to get it corrected.

USE OF ANY FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT PROVIDED IN THE POOL AREA IS AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND YOU SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK. PLEASE USE CAUTION. LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT AND A TELEPHONE ARE AVAILABLE AT THE POOL HOUSE AND ARE FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY. 2. The pool will be open for “Lane Only Swim” during pool season (May – August) from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Monday through Sunday. EXCEPT FOR TUESDAY- THE POOL IS CLOSED. Lane swimming during the off season – (September – April) is from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

3. Children are welcome to lap lane swimming but must be accompanied by, and supervised by, a responsible adult over the age of 18 at all times. Play swimming is not permitted during lap lane swimming times.

4. No solo swimming and/or sun bathing is allowed during Lane Only Swim. For your safety, there must be a minimum of 2 persons at the pool during Lane Only Swim.

5. Any individual(s) who are reported to be or found to be in violation of any of the pool rules will be reported to the Greatwood Community Association, Inc. Board of Directors.

THERE WILL BE NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY! SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK! ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND LIABILITY WAIVER 2020 The undersigned expressly agrees and understands that there is risk of injury or death from the use of the pool/facilities, and that said risk is at and expressly assumed by the resident and their guests. The resident expressly understands and agrees that neither Greatwood Community Association, Inc., its officers, or Association members shall be liable for any claims, demands, injuries, damages or death to person or property arising out of or in connection with the use of the pool/facilities or the premises where they are located whether or not said injury or death is due to the negligence of the Greatwood Community Association, Inc., its officers, and Association members or any other parties and hereby holds Greatwood Community Association, Inc., its officers, and Association members harmless from all claims which may be brought against them.

I understand that there will be no lifeguard on duty during “lane only swim” and I agree that, should I choose to bring children to the pool during this time, that I will be directly and solely responsible for their supervision and safety, as well as adherence to all pool rules.

I agree to indemnify and to hold harmless the Association’s members, directors, officers, employees, volunteers, successors, and assigns from any and all claims for any liability, injury, loss, damage, or expense, including attorney’s fees in any way connected with or arising out of my pool use, my guest’s pool use, or any non-resident third-party’s pool use who obtains access to the pool from myself or any member of my household, whether or not such injuries are caused in whole or in part by the negligence of any individuals identified in this Paragraph or by the Association, its members, directors, officers, agents, and employees.

Manager’s Corner News Balance Bike Program

J

ust a reminder about Greatwood’s balanced bike program.

Designed to assist children aged 3-5 with learning to ride a bike, Balance Bikes focus on the fundamentals of balancing, leaning and steering without the distractions and complications of pedals or training wheels. The simple, nopedal design build confidence and eliminate fear by allowing kids to have their feet on the ground and progress at their own pace. This teaches young children balance on two wheels right from the start, avoiding developmental delays typical with other ride-on toys or tricycles.

Greatwood HOA has a limited number of Balance Bikes for short-term use. Send an e-mail to (greatwoodbalancebikes@ gmail.com) with your contact information and you will be notified as soon as a Balance Bike becomes available. The Balance Bikes are available to Greatwood residents at NO CHARGE. A signed waiver and release of liability is required.

Welcome Back Greatwood Gators for our 28th Season!

A

fter 28 years, we are still incredibly excited for another great summer of recreational swimming and fun! We look forward to seeing our summer friends and spending time with our neighbors building life-long friendships, swimming muscles and incredible memories!

• Swim one length of the pool without the aid of an adult or coach in the water Practice: Practices will begin at the end of April and will be held after school Monday through Friday until school is out.

After school is out for the summer, practices will be held in the morning (7:00 – 10:45 AM.) The date for the practice meet is tentatively set for Wednesday, May 20th.

The Greatwood Gators’ mission is to provide a structured and safe learning environment through fun and exercise in a competitive spirit while promoting a positive role in the community. Our team focuses on good sportsmanship with an emphasis on improving individual strokes and times and we are very proud of the sense of community within our team.

Meets: Meets will be scheduled from the end of May throughout the month of June with the season ending by July 1st. Greatwood Geysers Set Their Sights On Another Great Season!

T

he Greatwood Geysers swim team is preparing for another summer of swimming and excitement! As part of the Southwest Houston Recreational Swim League (SHRSL), the Geysers continue to emphasize good sportsmanship, team pride and competition with an emphasis on having fun along the way.

SHRSL limits teams to 200 swimmers total, so new swimmer registrations are added based on space availability based on age and gender. Age-groups can fill quickly but as openings become available, they are filled in the order of our no-charge waitlist linked on our registration form. Please check out our Registration FAQs on our website for more details.

Practices begin the first week of May and are held after school Monday through Friday until school is out. Summer practices are also held in the afternoons but times may change slightly. Swim meets will be on Mondays starting on June 1st and running through the end of June. The dates for the championship meets will be announced soon but will be held in early July. This schedule is subject to change.

If elected to the board, Corwin plans to focus on the following areas: Home Owner Association Fees: As a member of our community, I have watched our HOA fees continue to escalate over the past 23 years. The annexation of our community by the City of Sugar Land create the possibility for duplication of services and inefficient use of HOA fees. If confirmed as a board member, I will be committed to a detailed review and assessment of our budget with a stated goal of reducing or stopping the annual increase of our community service fees.

orwin Moczygemba has lived in the Greatwood Community for over 23 years. He and his wife, Margie, are active in the community and have two children – Chloe, and 8th grader at Reading Jr. High and Ian, a Freshman at University of Houston. Corwin is a founding partner at Essentia Advisory Partners LLP where he manages his firms – Commodity Market Solutions practice. Corwin and his team of over 47 consultants deliver technology, accounting, and commercial strategy improvement projects for a global portfolio of clients in the Energy industry. Corwin was also the founder and chief operations officer for Amigo Energy from startup though the point where the management team divested and sold their interests in the company. Corwin is an electrical engineer by degree with minors in computer science and mathematics and bring to the community a wealth of experience in financial management, technology, and organizational efficiency.

Security: As our community continues to grow, the security of our property, roadways, and schools will be challenged as the general population increases. If confirmed as a board member, I will strive to ensure that we have an integrated technology strategy with our local law enforcement community to aid in identifying and reducing criminal activity in our community.

amilies can enjoy a destination of adventure at Sugar Landâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s International Art & Kite Festival on March 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The Crown Festival Park, 18355 Southwest Freeway.

Other festival highlights will include a market, creative art cars and a Fort Bend ISD youth art exhibit. There will also be chalk art and poster drawing contests. Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded in all contest categories.

This yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s event will highlight family fun opportunities for all to enjoy and will be coupled with great food and a variety of stage performances. Children can experience unlimited rounds of inflatable games and a fun zone complete with photo opportunities, face painting and hands-on art demonstration stations.

The festival menu will feature an assortment of food options to include all-American, Mexican, Chinese, Greek, Creole and more to satisfy taste buds.

Due to limited onsite parking, attendees are encouraged to take the shuttle to avoid traffic delays. Shuttle services are available at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, 18111 Lexington Blvd. Ride-sharing and taxis will also be welcomed.

Decorative kites will soar across the sky as kite enthusiasts compete in the Most Unique Kite Design Contest. Both kids and adults are encouraged to bring their own kites.

Additionally, dance performers will engage attendees in rhythmic dances from America, South America, China and India.

popular series of English childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s books by author Jacqueline Wilson first published in 2010. Due to the popularity of the book series and its connection with children and adults alike, Hetty Feather and her adventures were made into a BBC television series beginning in 2015 with the 6th season coming later this year. In 2014, a stage production of Hetty Feather was realized in England, travelling the country until its debut in Londonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s West End. It was nominated for a 2015 Olivier Award (Englandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Tony Award) for Best Family and Entertainment Show.

Hetty Feather is a historical fiction set in Victorian England and follows young Hetty, left at the foundling hospital as an infant, raised by a foster family in the countryside, and returning to the hospital to work when she becomes of age.

While living with her foster family, she has an encounter with a travelling circus and the horse trainer, Madame Adeline.

This opens her mind and heart to consider who her family might be and leads her on a search to find her mother.

Director L. Jay Edenmeyer challenged his cast to learn proper British accents in order to present the play in its authentic form. The cast embraced the challenge and worked with a dialect coach to perfect the charactersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; accents. This helped each performer delve even deeper into the characters they portray.

The audience should feel as if they walked the journey along with Hetty in the search for her true identity. I feel like audiences will be personally inspired to find that spark inside of them, like Hetty does, as she motivates herself to get through everything with a positive outlook on a better future!â&#x20AC;? Senior Tate Mangum agrees. â&#x20AC;&#x153;One of the big aspects of this show is that not many people know of it, especially here in the US.
