Celebrating the Men in Your Life on Father’s Day
“There is a whole variety of colors in the human rainbow,” says David Green, the pastor of Salem church in Doylestown borough. The church that, as Green mentions himself, many recognize by the big rainbow flag hanging at its front entrance in support of LGBTQ+ community. Salem Church is among the local places of worship, businesses, and local organizations participating in the annual Doylestown Pride Festival. The multi-day event will take place throughout the community from June 12-to 19. “It’s a way of demonstrating to the public that this is a community that is tolerant and accepting,” Green says of the festivals’ local impact. “It’s a strong statement that speaks up against hate and discrimination. It’s a way of saying that we love and respect Continued on page 10

By Danielle Gannon The Cardinal Contributing Writer June is the birth to warmer days, the end of the school year, the beginning of summer, and, of course, Father’s Day. June marks a lot, and in this article, we want to focus on fathers. “I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.” - Sigmund Freud

e all have a variety of examples of men in our lives that we have looked up to. For many of us, those men have been our fathers. For others, it has been a grandfather, an uncle, a male family member, a neighbor, or a compilation of traits from different men that make up our ideal Fatherfigure to look up to. This month, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of the local options to choose from to purchase gifts or
to have experiences with the man in your life! First up, Bucks County River Country. https://www. rivercountry.net Located in Point Pleasant, they have tubing, kayaking, canoeing & rafting. All easily accessible for river activities up the Delaware. Afterward, you can stop by Dilly’s Cafe’, an old-fashioned window-serve fast-food joint featuring classic American eats, ice cream & a patio. https:// www.dillysatcentrebridge.com Next up, we have the pond at Fanny Chapman Park, Located on Boro Mill Hill Road and East State Street, next to Fanny Chapman Pool. If dad is a BBQ man, you can head over to Lahaska and get him some good ol’ bbq grub at Holy Que Smokehouse, 5788 Lower York Road in Lahaska Continued on page 2
Get to Know a Doylestownian: Justine Maraska By Dana Roberts The Cardinal Contributing Writer

et to Know a Doylestownian is a monthly feature in which a Doylestown resident or person of interest helps us get to know them better by finishing sentences we provide, in any way they see fit. In honor of June being graduation month, we wanted to honor a Central Bucks graduate. Meet Justine Maraska, graduating senior from CB West. My name is… Justine Maraska. On Friday, June 10th, I will be graduating from CB West... with a class size of approximately 500. Graduation feels...honestly, surreal. I watched my brother graduate and peers graduate in years before me, and it never really set in that it was going to eventually be me. I remember during sixth grade graduation; I never imagined the year 2022 would ever come. This summer, I am... going on a week-long trip down the West coast with my mom. Aside from vacation, I will be working at a hair salon in town that I have been working at since I was 15. I also have a lot of art projects that I plan to complete this summer, including making some art for my dorm!
During high school, I was involved in... Art programs, which molded me to be more creative with my thinking and gave me a confidence I never realized I had. I also ran winter and spring track all 4 years of high school until my spring senior season. I became unable to run on a stress-fractured foot. Track taught me the importance and impact of bringing high energy to a group and connected me with some amazing friends. The best thing about living a block away from CB West was… walking to school and being so close to such a great community. I love how I can hear the marching band from my sunroom. It just makes me feel even closer with the West environment. The thing I will miss the most about high school is...Seeing all the kids, whether I was very close with them, friendly with them, or even those I was not as familiar with. I love talking to and connecting with others. Sharing a space, like school, with so many kids from Doylestown has been awesome. The thing I will miss the least about high school is…I think people tend to get caught up in what they feel comfortable with, even if its not what they truly want. I think college is a great way to redefine your values and become closer in-tune with yourself. My favorite class at CB West was...most definitely AP art.

This class allowed me to grow and convey my thought process in a chronological order of expression. Art to me is such a therapeutic way of getting your ideas out there Continued on page 7
