Each gift of time, talent, and treasure this year has made a meaningful difference to the patients and families we serve and to every one of us at Doylestown Health. As the pandemic continued, we maintained the exceptional momentum of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health and increased our campaign goal to $100 million. Chief among many highlights, we dedicated new, state-of-the-art facilities including the Clark Center for Critical Care Medicine—named in recognition of our One Vision Campaign co-chairs, Dick and Angie Clark—that elevates care delivery for critically ill patients. Since the inception of this campaign, the Clarks have matched their leadership with outstanding generosity, which their family renewed again recently with a signature

gift to expand the Women’s Diagnostic Center, soon to be renamed

the Clark Center for Breast Imaging upon completion in 2022. In

this issue, you’ll learn more about the Clarks’ collective approach to

DEEPLY ROOTED IN GIVING with their gifts that established the Clark Center for Critical Care Medicine and the Clark Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, visionary benefactors Dick and Angela Clark are steadfast supporters of Doylestown Health. In partnership with their daughters, Kelly and Lisa, the Clark family recently made a transformational gift through their foundation to create the Clark Center for Breast Imaging at Doylestown Hospital.

Doylestown Health Foundation recently spoke with the Clark family about Dick and Angela’s involvement as chairs of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health, and the family’s collective approach to philanthropy.

Four generations of the Clark family have received care at Doylestown Hospital. What comes to mind as you recall some of those experiences?

could say we have season tickets to Doylestown Hospital! Angie and I have both had physical therapy, among many other services, and the therapists are just incredible.

Kelly: A couple of years ago my husband, Dave, had a sore throat and just wasn’t feeling right.

Our primary doctor referred us to specialists who were members of the Doylestown Health Medical Staff. Their quick diagnosis of the situation, and the emergency surgery that followed, saved his life.

Did your patient experiences inspire your ongoing involvement with the hospital and Doylestown Health?

Watching that unfold was so scary. They were literally running through the hallways. Yet to see how quickly the emergency and surgical teams coordinated and communicated every step of the way is remarkable. It shows why it’s so important to expand the surgical suites and keep space available for emergency surgery. It was a terrifying experience, but how everyone—from the doctors and nurses, to the support staff—handled it with excellence and compassion made a difference. They were incredibly kind and supportive to me as well. They saved Dave’s life and we’ll forever be indebted to Doylestown Hospital.

Dick: My father was a patient in the Doylestown Hospital ICU and then at the Health Center at Pine Run Retirement Community for several years. He got exceptional and compassionate care until the day he passed. In fact, we are still in touch with his caregivers. As for the rest of us, you

Dick: In my career, I’ve been to hospitals around the world, and I can say we have some of the best care anywhere right here in Doylestown. Doylestown Health is exceptionally well run.

They’ve remained focused on their mission while they’ve grown. Angie and I believe in this hospital and our confidence continues to grow.

During the early days of the pandemic, the dedication and motivation of everyone at Doylestown Health was exceptional. They were so far advanced with leading research and applying innovative therapies to treat COVID-19. The compassion from nurses and staff was truly remarkable and it just validates everything that the hospital is doing.

There is no medical institution more powerful than Doylestown Health, and my family is here today because of it.

A LIFESAVING DIFFERENCE

The name of your family foundation references a “giving tree.”

What does the giving tree mean to you?

Angie: The giving tree has always been a special symbol to me and my family. We have our family tree art, and images and sculptures of giving trees, displayed throughout our home. The giving tree has many meanings, from giving life and vitality to providing for others. It also signifies that however we grow and change, we are always connected and rooted in our values of giving to others.

What were some of the ways philanthropy took shape in your early family life?

Angie: We were involved in volunteering from the time the girls were little, at church and for other organizations. I volunteered weekly with Kelly and Lisa at Meals on Wheels when they were old enough.

Dick and I have been fortunate in our lives, and we’ve always felt it’s so important to reach out and help others however we can.

Kelly: Volunteering was ingrained in our family life for as long as I can remember. When Lisa and I were old enough, we took our own shifts three to five days a week at Meals on Wheels. We visited with the elderly or people with disabilities who were unable to provide for their nutritional needs. It’s a great feeling to know that you can make a difference in one person’s life. It’s also a two-way street. We learned so much from the people we met.

How has your family’s approach to giving evolved over time?

Lisa: We each have our areas of interest and many of the projects we choose to support are things that have affected us personally or through our work.

Kelly: We’ve also formalized our process over the years. We research projects individually and the four of us sit around the table to vet and discuss our findings. You’d better know your stuff because Dick Clark is tough! In all seriousness, we want to know the organization

beginning early, our kids will see that they can make a difference, too. One of the things my father says is, “It’s great and good now, but what’s going to happen three or four generations from now?”

That’s why we’re involved together, and the kids can continue to make an impact for the future.

is going to use the money wisely and how our investment will benefit the people and community the organization serves.

How do you involve the youngest generation of the Clark family in philanthropy?

Lisa: Whether through our example, or their personalities in general, the kids want to jump in and help. With my son we’ve been involved in food drives and back-to-school supply drives, and he’s aware of how he can take steps to make a difference. I think they all have a giving spirit and try to help others where and when they can.

Kelly: Last summer my then-12-year-old had an interest in a cause.

I encouraged her to do research and learn more. She came back with a budget and the information we needed to discuss her idea. By

Kelly and Lisa, did your professional training and background inform your thinking as you considered the Center for Breast Imaging project?

Kelly: I have master’s degrees in social work and business administration and spent a large part of my career as a nursing home social worker. I’ve been in many healthcare settings, and unfortunately there is often a tendency to almost dehumanize people by referring to them by room or bed numbers. Patients are people. When you take time to listen and hear their stories, it does have an impact on their well-being.

At Doylestown Health, the patients as human beings come first. Lisa and I especially appreciated the Breast Center team’s comprehensive approach to caring for the patients, and their professionalism and credentials are impressive. We all thought the concept for the relocated and expanded facility was phenomenal, from the smallest architectural and design details to improving the patient experience.

What are some of the project highlights that are most meaningful to you?

Lisa: With my experience working in community mental health as a licensed professional counselor, I’m encouraged that the new design will create a more comfortable experience for the patient, both physically and emotionally. All the Clark women appreciate it, actually! Doylestown Health also helps patients who are underinsured to get access to care and offers services to individuals who can’t otherwise afford necessary care.

Kelly: I agree with changing the name from “Women’s Diagnostics” to “Breast Imaging.” I think it’s really encouraging for community members who might say, “I can go there and get the care that I need.”

If the focus is solely on women, then some people may think, “It’s not for me.” So, I think it makes the care even more approachable and welcoming.

What would be your advice to other families who are interested in making a bigger impact through collective giving?

Dick: Several years ago, our focus shifted to organizations where our involvement and investments can have the biggest impact. When Angie, Lisa, Kelly, and I thought more about it, we determined that we could “go local” and have the greatest impact investing in local organizations and charities we’ve had relationships with. It doesn’t mean that larger, national organizations aren’t doing great work.

It’s just that for us, we saw that we could really make the biggest difference on a more local level in our community.

Why is it important to you to have a hospital like Doylestown Hospital embedded in the community?

Kelly: Among many reasons, we don’t always have to travel into Philadelphia to get excellent care. Doylestown Hospital and the health system are offering more specialties now. They invest in the community and make healthcare accessible for our most vulnerable populations, including elderly people or people with chronic illness and disabilities for whom longer distance travel is more challenging.

It’s a relief to stay in your own community when you don’t feel your best, and your family can be by your side when you need them most.

From your perspectives as chairs of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health, what characteristics make Doylestown Health truly unique?

Dick: There is an incredible culture and an overall commitment to excellence. The medical staff, volunteers, and leadership embrace the community in every aspect of what they do. As I mentioned, Angie and I have been in academic medical centers throughout the world. Doylestown Health invests in excellence and in doing so, it also invests in sustaining this special culture. The leadership also takes its responsibility to the community of Doylestown, and now the region, very seriously. We are proud to be involved in this campaign. The pandemic showed us that this caliber of medical care supported by this unique culture is something we can’t take for granted.

Angie: It’s also the comfort and caring that attracts the four of us, and our family, to support Doylestown Health. We want it to be here for future generations of our family and our community.

Powered by philanthropic investments, the relocation and expansion of the Women’s Diagnostic Center at Doylestown Hospital is now underway. Upon completion in the spring of 2022, the newly named Clark Center for Breast Imaging will occupy 5,000 square feet—adding capacity to serve an additional 2,500 patients. The Center currently serves more than 17,000 patients throughout the region annually.

Patient-focused highlights of the Clark Center for Breast Imaging include: • New dedicated imaging space including three mammography rooms (continuing 3D mammography [breast tomosynthesis] for higher breast cancer detection rates and fewer false positives), three ultrasound rooms, and one stereotactic room

How do you hope that this investment to create the Clark Center for Breast Imaging will have an impact on the future of healthcare in the community?

• Equipment upgrades and acquisitions featuring the latest innovations in screening and diagnostic imaging specialized for breast health

Kelly: I’m 47 years old and I know people even in their 50s and 60s who have never had a mammogram. They may have delayed it because they’re embarrassed or triggered by the experience, or even scared. When we can spread the word about the amazing care in a new, lovely setting and how streamlined and convenient it is, I think people will be more likely to go for screenings and diagnostics.

When we reach more people, we will save more lives.

• A new configuration for registration, patient waiting, and other clinical function areas that will dramatically reduce wait times and enhance the patient experience

PLANTING INSPIRATION as pine run retirement community celebrates its 45th anniversary, its picturesque campus and lush landscape continue to benefit from transformational philanthropic investments through ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health.

N

estled in the countryside along tree-lined Ferry Road in Central Bucks County, the beauty of Pine Run Retirement Community’s signature 43-acre campus captivates residents—affectionately called Villagers—and visitors alike. A donor who lives at Pine Run, and wishes to remain anonymous, made her leadership gift earlier this year earmarked to elevate the natural beauty of Pine Run’s landscape.

She says she was initially drawn to the community because of its idyllic setting and affiliation with Doylestown Hospital. “The compassionate care my late husband received at Doylestown Hospital was so comforting at a difficult time,” says the Villager. “The continuum of care Pine Run offers is so important. I never considered anywhere else to live at this stage of my life but Pine Run.” Doylestown Health purchased Pine Run Retirement Community in 1992. “It was part of a long-term vision to establish a comprehensive range of health services integrating patient-oriented care through all stages of life,” says Jim Brexler, President and Chief Executive Officer, Doylestown Health.

“As we age, it’s so comforting for our children to know we are in a place where we are cared for and valued,” the Villager says. “Pine Run is a beautiful place to live, and the reassurance of having the hospital affiliation is a part of it.”

Connecting with nature has been shown to promote physical, mental, and spiritual healing, and green spaces like those featured at Pine Run are especially beneficial for healthy aging in seniors.

Thus, landscape enhancements are a significant element of the

three-part master plan to improve, enhance, and renovate Pine Run’s campus.

Phase I began in 2017 with renovations to the Health Center, and the opening of the Community Center in 2019 initiated Phase II. As a signature priority of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health, the Community Center—known as the “Hub”— features creative dining, fitness, recreation, and learning spaces.

Since its completion, outdoor areas of the Hub have extended opportunities for Villagers to gather and socialize, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic evolved. “Many of our Villagers have shared how much they appreciate the ways our campus environment and open spaces allow them to fully enjoy an active lifestyle,” says Maria Santangelo, Executive Director of Pine Run Retirement Community.

Visible just across the pond, the Pine Run “Never Forget Garden” pays tribute to military veterans and their families, offering a peaceful place to honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country. As the new projects evolved, so did interest in enhancing the grounds sooner than originally planned.

“I saw an opportunity to support things that I care about that enhance the beauty of our campus for all of us to enjoy,” says the Villager. “And, Tom Hebel, President of Bucks Country Gardens, was instrumental in the design and execution of this challenging project.”

“By designing a beautiful, terraced garden landscape around the pond, we are creating another outdoor space for reflection and enjoyment,” shares Santangelo. “All of us are deeply moved that our benefactor wants to dedicate the new garden in memory of our

colleague and beloved former executive director, Cathleen Stewart, who passed away in 2019. Cathleen would have been so proud of realizing every new step in this exciting vision for Pine Run and humbled that a Villager made such a generous gift in her memory.”

“This gift, among other recent philanthropic gifts to support Pine Run’s campus transformation projects, underscores just how committed the Villagers are to stewarding the natural beauty of the campus community for each other and for future residents to enjoy,” says Laura Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Doylestown Health.

“Plans to renovate the Craft Barn in our next project phase are underway now with input from our Villagers,” says Santangelo. In keeping with the original character of the Craft Barn, initial design plans include a stunning wall of windows which will allow plenty of natural light for artists. Santangelo continues, “The artistic endeavors of our painters, woodworkers, potters, writers, needleworkers, and others enrich all of our lives, personally and professionally.”

“The connection between art and nature at Pine Run is something I cherish, like many of my fellow Villagers,” says the donor. “I am so pleased I am able to support things that I care about right here in my community.”

ANSWERING THE CHALLENGE T

hroughout the year, the leadership of Doylestown Health receives heartfelt messages of appreciation from grateful patients. While each patient’s personal story is unique, a notable theme is that the highest praise is conveyed for the people who provided care—chief among them the doctors, nurses, and volunteers.

“The dedication and teamwork of our doctors, nurses, volunteers, and everyone at Doylestown Health who cares for our patients is just amazing,” says Joan Parlee, Chair of the Boards of Trustees of Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation. “During this past year our clinicians and Associates put aside their own fears and concerns and stepped forward to share their expertise. Many filled positions outside their normal roles as well in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic,” she continues. “We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful organization to care for us every day and especially during a crisis.”

While gratitude for doctors, nurses, and volunteers is ongoing, certain days and weeks each spring are officially designated as national celebrations, shining a light on the contributions of the people called to these noble vocations.

Launched at the end of March 2021 in celebration of National Doctors’ Day, the Boards of Trustees $100,000 Challenge Match was created to honor physicians, as well as volunteers during National Healthcare Volunteer Week in April, and nurses during National Nurses Week in May. As Marianne Chabot, Vice Chair of the Doylestown Hospital Board of Trustees and VIA Member, shares, “We had 100-percent participation from the Trustees of both Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation—37 members total—inspiring contributions by generous members of the community. This challenge is just one of the ways that we as a Board came together to show our deep appreciation for our extraordinary caregivers here.”

Spanning a period of three months, the giving challenge match concluded on June 30 with more than $330,000 in donations from the community. When added to the almost $150,000 in commitments from the Trustees, the grand total for this inaugural giving challenge reached nearly $480,000—far exceeding expectations.

All gifts to the challenge match support ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health and its highest priorities. “As we continue to move forward with our comprehensive campaign,

the ongoing support from our volunteer Boards and the community is a tremendous source of pride for us,” says Laura Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “While it is true to the character and history of Doylestown Health, our collective leadership stepping up to endorse our physicians, nurses, and volunteers sends an important message. We are only able to deliver the high-quality patient care for which we are nationally recognized because of our incredible teams of caregivers.”

with a unique fundraising challenge , the Boards of Trustees for Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation invited the community to join them in honoring the doctors, nurses, and volunteers of Doylestown Health for their exceptional compassion and dedication.

Upon learning of the Boards of Trustees $100,000 Challenge Match, Brenda Foley, MD, FACEP, Medical Director of the Emergency Department, said, “For me, this tremendously generous matching gift challenge reinforces the deep sense of personal commitment that hospital leadership has to our medical professionals and volunteers. I am humbled by their generosity, along with the support of the Doylestown community that we so proudly serve.” As the current President of the Doylestown Hospital Medical Staff, Dr. Foley also notes, “I speak not only for myself, but on behalf of the members of our medical staff in expressing gratitude for this outstanding Boards challenge that demonstrates the uniquely supportive culture here at Doylestown Health.”

Mollie Covington, MSN, RN, CCRN, reflects on working in the ICU during the early days of the pandemic. “We were amazed at how people rallied to help us with donations of masks, food, and kind messages,” she says. “As nurses, we appreciate that it takes a village to care for our community, and when our community steps forward, we know we are not forgotten. I appreciate that Doylestown Health is able to remain independent, and it’s because our Boards and our community are dedicated to our mission.”

“I am so proud of Doylestown Health and our ability to recruit some of the most talented and caring doctors and nurses around,” says Chabot. “The contributions of our expert healthcare teams and volunteers are always worth celebrating, and I’m grateful to our community for recognizing that and answering this challenge.”

ADVANCING EDUCATION AND INNOVATION jim and jean clark ’s leadership gift to ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health has helped establish the new Pharmacy Residency Program at Doylestown Hospital, advancing education and clinical pharmacy innovation to benefit patients and providers across the health system.

All that remained for Jim Clark to meet his graduation requirements from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was a Red Cross certification class. As luck would have it, “a lovely instructor named Jean was teaching and I asked for her number at the end of class. The rest is history,” says Jim.

“We want to support the hospital’s mission and advance the pharmacy through ongoing education.

It’s the perfect blend of both our professional careers and philanthropic interests.”

While their early careers brought them together by chance, the Clarks designed their career paths with purpose during their 46-year marriage. “As a hospital pharmacist, I prepared specialized IVs for burn patients, among other responsibilities,” says Jim. “I loved the hospital setting, but it was always my goal to work in pharmaceutical research and innovation. During my 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry, of which 23 were at Johnson & Johnson, I advanced in different roles and participated in a variety of leading initiatives.” With a master’s degree in elementary education, Jean’s focus as an educator spanned early childhood education and program development, as well as coaching high school sports. “I love young people and education is a pathway to opportunity,” she says.

“In the two decades since moving to Doylestown, we’ve watched Doylestown Hospital evolve,” shares Jim. “It offers the high quality and expertise of a big city hospital in a smaller setting.” While their appreciation for Doylestown Hospital grew as lifetime members of Friends of the Heart Institute, Jim and Jean also wondered how their involvement could grow in other areas of the health system. Jim’s interest in pharmacy led to a meeting with Christine Roussel, PharmD, BCOP, BCSCP, the Senior Executive Director for Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Medical Research, in 2019.

CELEBRATING LEGACY AND LIFETIME GIVING

ADVANCING EDUCATION AND INNOVATION continued “Pharmacists serve as medication therapy experts in the healthcare system,” says Roussel. “Most patient treatments involve one or more types of medication, whether it’s a surgical procedure, diagnostic and radiologic studies, or wound care.” At Doylestown Health, 20 full-time pharmacists and 14 part-time pharmacists provide care across a variety of settings and specialities: cardiology, emergency medicine, intensive care, infectious diseases, internal medicine, long term care, transitions of care, oncology and outpatient infusion, pharmacy informatics, pharmacy operations, and investigational drugs. Given the complexity and volume of medications required, highly specialized pharmacists are located within the second floor Della Penna Cardiovascular Intensive Care/Interventional Unit and the third floor Putman Intensive Care/Intermediate Unit opened as part of the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion.

Doylestown Hospital is consistently recognized both regionally and nationally as a leader in patient safety. Pharmacists play a critical role in the achievement of this distinction by proactively monitoring orders and ensuring that each medicine used is evidence-based, with over 100,000 doses of medication dispensed each month. “Medications must be 100-percent accurate, and our pharmacy team is responsible for tracking and dispensing over 3,000 different medications,” says Scott Levy, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Doylestown Health. “Being an early adopter of medication barcode tracking—deployed­at Doylestown Hospital in 2007—is one striking example,” according to Levy. “The collaboration between our pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and care teams is unparalleled, and we were especially proud of that during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing vaccine distribution campaign in our community,” he says.

From the Clarks’ first meeting and tour of the Doylestown Hospital Pharmacy they knew they had chosen a leading institution. “I was impressed to see the highest levels of expertise and specialization of pharmacy leadership and technology, like the state-of-the-art cleanroom—a valuable tool to prevent particulate and microbial contamination while processing and compounding all sterile medications,” Jim observed. “This pharmacy is on par with university hospitals in its configuration and quality.”

As their conversation progressed, the Clarks and Dr. Roussel discussed plans for a new pharmacy residency program. Launching a post-graduate year one (PGY1) residency program is a rigorous process: hospitals must meet the highest standards in five specialty areas of pharmacy to qualify, and then must match with a resident.

“It’s unusual for a hospital of this size to have this program,” says Roussel. “Only 17 percent of hospitals host post-graduate pharmacist training programs. While we are fortunate to offer this opportunity for advanced training, the greater benefit is increasing the scope of care we can provide to our patients through new program development, increased time at the bedside, and creating a pipeline of future hires with advanced training.”

“We knew immediately the PGY1 residency program was something we wanted to support,” says Jean. “We want to support the hospital’s mission and advance the pharmacy through ongoing education. It’s the perfect blend of both our professional careers and philanthropic interests.”

In June, the Clarks were among the first to greet Robin Isaac, PharmD, Doylestown Hospital’s inaugural PGY1 resident. A graduate and valedictorian of Temple University School of Pharmacy, Isaac was drawn to apply to Doylestown Hospital’s program because of its reputation for patient safety. “It was also evident when I met with Dr. Roussel and the preceptors that they are great at what they do and really care about the patients,” said Isaac. “Being the first resident in this program supported by the Clarks inspires me to be the best resident that I can be.”

With ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health, a new era of transformational philanthropy has accelerated completion of the first phase of the campaign’s priority projects. The ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic caused many organizations to pause or delay significant fundraising efforts, yet the continued show of support from the Doylestown community at-large, and loyal, steadfast donors, allowed Doylestown Health Foundation to move forward with new fundraising initiatives throughout the year.

Total Campaign Giving ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health is a comprehensive campaign where every gift matters.Visionary leadership gifts combined with gifts at every level mark a milestone of more than $76 million in philanthropic investments for this truly historic campaign.

In January, the Boards of Trustees voted unanimously to increase the goal of the One Vision Campaign to $100 million, aligning the campaign’s planned conclusion with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the original Doylestown Hospital.

One Vision is comprehensive in scope so that philanthropic investments will impact Doylestown Health as a whole. The next phase of the campaign will continue Doylestown Hospital’s transition to all-private beds and highlight a slate of new initiatives. They include: strengthening and growing the Doylestown Health Legacy Endowment Fund and other endowments; rebuilding Children’s Village; the completion of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation in the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion, the Morel Family Foundation Center for Pre-Natal Care, and the Clark Center for Breast Imaging; advancing Radiology and Interventional Radiology; and creating a conference suite and learning center at Doylestown Hospital.

Among many highlights, a first-ever $100,000 Challenge Match issued by the Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation Boards of Trustees recognized the dedication and resilience of Doylestown Health doctors, volunteers, and nurses. With 100-percent participation by trustees and generous community support, this effort raised nearly half a million dollars for the Second Century Fund. The exceptional grassroots support for this and other projects helped raise the number of first-time donors to its highest level in the history of the Foundation.

Friends of the Heart Institute, an all-volunteer group with longstanding ties to Doylestown Health, exceeded their $2 million fundraising goal for ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health in July 2021. For more than 30 years, Friends of the Heart has raised funds to support the top priorities of cardiovascular care, including community education and outreach, cutting-edge technology, and equipment and facility expansion and enhancement.

Doylestown Health will begin rebuilding Children’s Village, the signature early childhood education center at Doylestown Hospital, sooner than anticipated due in large part to a $1.5 million challenge match from Jeanne and John Hubbard. Announced one year after Children’s Village was destroyed by a tornado, this challenge match welcomes and invites community support to ensure a bright future for this treasured resource.

With a leadership gift of $1 million, Donna and Richard Shindell, first-time donors to Doylestown Health, supported the construction of the Shindell Concourse which connects the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion with the main hospital building, improving patient and visitor access to key areas of the hospital while streamlining patient pick-up.

On December 3, 2020, a ribbon-cutting and dedication marked the opening of the Clark Outpatient Rehabilitation Center located within the new Ambulatory Center on the Doylestown Hospital campus.

In this spacious new setting, a multidisciplinary team of licensed therapists provides highly specialized therapies, in addition to physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The Ambulatory Center also offers convenient access to pre-admission testing, electrodiagnostics, orthopedic surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, and pain management services.

The dedication of the Clark Center for Critical Care Medicine at Doylestown Hospital on April 14, 2021, showcased the integration of high-quality intensive care with an enhanced patient care experience. The opening of the Putman Intensive Care/Intermediate Unit expanded the number of critical care beds, strengthening the hospital’s Intensivist program and Doylestown Health’s ability to treat our most vulnerable and critically ill patients.

In a recent interview, Laura Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer, shared an update on the ongoing impact of philanthropic investments.

Q The focus of this year’s philanthropy report is Investing in Excellence. How do philanthropic investments make a difference at Doylestown Health?

A

We consider all philanthropic gifts to be an investment in healthcare excellence and the future of Doylestown Health. Just as the community invests in us, Investing in Excellence illustrates how Doylestown Health invests each gift in meaningful ways, such as building state-of-the-art facilities, launching innovative new programs, and strengthening the continuum of care across the health system.

Every investment we make is intentional so we can deliver care of the highest quality for our patients. When we launch a new facility project, for instance, we bring the very best healthcare leaders, architects, and designers to the table because it’s the right thing to do. We are committed to recruiting and retaining expert physicians, skilled nurses, and support staff who are dedicated to our mission of patient care excellence.

Simply put, with philanthropic investments we will realize our vision—One Vision—for the second century of healthcare excellence in this community.

Q The goal of the One Vision Campaign was raised from $75 million to $100 million this year. What factored into this important decision?

A Since the public launch of One Vision in June of 2018, we’ve witnessed extraordinary

generosity from more than 6,000 donors in our community and throughout the region. By January of this year, longstanding supporters and new donors had committed more than $70 million to this campaign, just past the halfway mark to our planned conclusion in 2023. With this incredible vote of confidence from our community, the Boards of Trustees unanimously

endorsed this ambitious new goal at the recommendation of the Campaign Committee. We have come a long way, yet there is so much more we can accomplish together. The new goal is also a symbolic step as we anticipate reaching our goal amid the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Doylestown Health in less than two years!
