ALL OF THESE YEARS
It’s amazing how quickly time flies by. What seems like just a few years ago, I was carrying both of my daughters around in my arms. Now they are both young women, and my oldest is even taller than me. Just last month was my work anniversary at the Mission, and I am now in my 24th year of being a part of this wonderful ministry. It truly feels like, not so long ago, that I walked through the doors of DRM for the first time.
A lot has changed over those years. The Mission was relocated from 9th Ave. to our current campus on 1400 Evangel Dr. We have started new Life Recovery Programs, where men and women can change their lives through the Bible-based, 12-month program. We have added new buildings like Owen’s House that have helped us meet the growing needs for women as well as women with children who find themselves in need or homeless. The last few years the Mission has added transitional housing programs for both men
and women to help them better transition back into society. We have also added many new community outreach programs and services to help many families, who might have ended up homeless without the extra help DRM has provided.
As I look back through all of these years, it becomes evident that God has wonderfully blessed DRM and this community. As I look to the future, I don’t know what God has in store for this ministry, but I now can’t wait to see it! When DRM first started in 1975, it was founded on faith in Jesus and sharing the Gospel to this community. Now 48 years later, that same foundation of salvation through Jesus, God’s son, is why DRM exists. DRM’s programs and services might change or look different, but the one constant is our faith that God will direct our path.

foolishness and selfishness, and He brought me to my knees on the bathroom floor crying out to Him. Finally, I was done running and feeling that way, and I asked God, “What do You want me to do?” I heard a small whisper saying, “I love you.” That was God.
Jeremiah 29:11
Hi,my name is Miranda. My parents divorced at a young age, which led to a rough childhood. This caused me to start drinking at a young age and continued heavily with experimenting drugs for 10 years.
When I had kids of my own and became a stay-at-home mom, those years resulted in boredom and anger because I wouldn’t stop my behavior. Eventually, I lost custody which caused me to take a darker path and stray further away from the Lord. Instead of praying, I covered my pain and anger up with cocaine, meth, pills, alcohol and men.
One day last year, I believe God had enough of my
Thanks to God’s love, mercy and grace, I discovered the Downtown Rescue Mission and am about to graduate its yearlong program. Now sober, my chains are broken, and I’m no longer angry with everyone. I’m so grateful and thankful, and I’m praying God will restore my relationships with my kids. I have faith that anything is possible through Christ.

SERVING WITH A PURPOSE
Spendingsummers at my grandparents growing up, I watched my grandfather “Papaw Huck” teach me what a servant looked like through his actions has always played a role in the person I strive to be.
Last year, I felt a calling to be part of the solution to the growing problem of homelessness in our community, and that’s how I found myself working today as the Donor Engagement Officer at Downtown Rescue Mission.
me, Zane Drost at donors@downtownrescuemission.org or 256-713-4313.
I leave you with this final thought: What are you going to do to transform a life today?
I love what I get to do every day – building lasting relationships with donors and sharing the stories of how their investments are Transforming Lives – One at a Time. Each day when I walk through the doors at the Mission, I know that I am in some way doing just that!
Here I am today, serving a great God and serving with a great team at DRM doing what I love to do – SERVE. The Mission is not always easy, but the results are LIFE CHANGING!
