BLACK BOOK OF NON-PROFITS 5

FROM THE PUBLISHER

We are pleased to provide the second edition of the Black Book of Non-Profits, our annual guide to the fundraising events for the charitable groups in the southeast Michigan area. This special publication is produced by Downtown Publications, publishers of Downtown Birmingham/Bloomfield, The Guide and our newest publication, Xpress. The Black Book is being mailed to homes in most areas of Birmingham, Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills, communities where residents have built a reputation for being supportive, both financially and as volunteers, of many of the worthy causes in the region. Our goal with the Black Book is to create a resource publication serving as a comprehensive guide to the society events that help raise funds to underwrite the nonprofit groups which are such a critical part of the fabric of society as we know it in metro Detroit. Like the last several years, these are challenging times for charitable groups. Demand for services has increased and funding is constantly challenged. So for Downtown Publications, this is part of our efforts to give back to the communities by helping to publicize the fund-raising events and educate our readers about the mission of the many groups listed in this publication. Inside you will find nearly 100 major charitable groups listed, along with their major fund-raising events. Toward the back of the Black Book, you will find a section called Community Champions where we profile an added 50 groups that also help add to the quality of life in the region. Lastly, our thanks go to the advertisers you see in the Black Book. A special note of appreciation goes to the Presenting Sponsor for the Black Book, Hall & Hunter Realtors/Christie's International Real Estate, a Birmingham firm that has developed a strong reputation for its community involvement and support of worthy projects. We look forward to expanding future issues of the Black Book of Non-Profits in the years ahead. David Hohendorf Publisher davidhohendorf@downtownpublications.com

THE CALENDAR November 2012-October 2013

Editor’s note: We have attempted to compile a master calendar of major fund-raising events starting with November 2012 through October 2013. If a major fundraising event was scheduled for a specific date, it is indicated by date and the page number where event details appear in the annual issue. If a non-profit group could only specify a month, we have indicted that as To Be Determined (TBD). At the end of the events list for each month, we have also listed, under Other Events, additional fund-raising items from our Community Champions section, which starts on page 47. NOVEMBER 2012 2
