The rare, iconic 1967 Goose Dollar! Seen by many as the ‘Crowning Glory’ of a serious decimal collection, the 1967 Goose $1 plays a key role in the history of Australian numismatics. Imposing, majestic and scarce, we are delighted to present a breathtaking array of examples of this important Australian pattern. The 1967 Goose $1 was designed by leading sculptor and medallist Andor Mészáros – the man who created designs that came so close to being chosen for Australia’s decimal coinage in 1963. Based on the motifs of his entries for the decimal 2c and 20c, Mészáros’ Goose $1 design won an Australian Coin Review (ACR) competition, held in response to the rather controversial absence of a $1 coin denomination when Australia’s new decimal currency had been unveiled. Somewhat tongue-in-cheek, the Goose $1 design was officially submitted to the Commonwealth, and – unsurprisingly – officially rejected. This led the ACR to have the Goose $1 privately minted by medallists John Pinches of London. Struck from 28.70g of sterling silver, the mintage of the plain-edge 1967 Goose $1 Proof was a mere 750, with 1,500 examples of the milled-edge 1967 Goose $1 Unc issued. An exciting opportunity, we have four examples available – one in Proof, one in Choice Unc, and two graded at MS66 and MS67 respectively: equivalent of Gem Unc!

First Elizabeth II notes! Last predecimal notes! A landmark issue in the history of Australian currency, this set not only represents the first notes issued during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II – it also represents the last banknote types released before the changeover to decimal currency in 1966! Issued in 1953 and 1954 under the auspices of the Commonwealth Bank, and bearing the signature combination Coombs/Wilson, the nation’s last predecimal types include the traditional banknote denominations of 10/-, £1, £5 and £10. Radically different in design to the notes of her predecessor, King George VI, the Elizabeth II notes each carried a different portrait. With 70 years having passed since first issued, and an enormous number of notes officially withdrawn from circulation and destroyed by the Commonwealth Government, the first notes of Elizabeth II are scarce in any grade – particularly the high denomination £5 and £10. Every Perth Mint Half Sovereign from 1900 to 1918!

Underpinned by an enticing blend of history, beauty and prestige, the Perth Mint 1900-18P Half Sovereign Series is perhaps most notable for the extraordinarily low mintages. The first Perth Mint half sovereign, and only Queen Victoria Perth Mint half sovereign, the 1900P had a mintage of just 119,376. Under Edward VII, the 1904P had a mintage of 60,030, with the mintages of the 1900-18P Gold Half Sovereign Complete 7-Coin Set Fine-about Uncirculated
1908P and 1909P being 24,668 and 44,022! Under George V, the 1911P and 1915P had mintages of just 130,373 and 138,219! A great rarity, the last half sovereign was struck in 1918, with less than 200 known! With the mintages so low, and so many coins melted for the gold, it’s no surprise that this series is rarely offered as a complete collection. One set available – act now!
