Aboriginal people are the original occupants and inhabitants of Wagonga’s surrounding land and waterways. The traditional people of the area relied on the sea, the estuaries and the land to provide much of their food and sustenance for life. In the past, they traded with other Aboriginal people throughout the Yuin Nation. Narooma is one of the most scenic towns on the Far South Coast, nestled between the ocean and the startling blue-green waters of Wagonga Inlet, with Gulaga Mountain (Mt. Dromedary) watching over the township. It has great shops, cafés and restaurants, and of course seafood often features on menus. With a choice of flat stretches or hills, there are numerous places to walk around town and take in the spectacular views over the Inlet, the mountains and the ocean. Montague Island is located just offshore - take a tour of the island, learn about its heritage-listed buildings and history, and see the fur seals and little penguins. Narooma is also renowned for its spectacular public golf course, ranked as one of the best in Australia. It's a great place to go bike riding, with tracks around town that are perfect for kids to practice their riding skills on. There are also plenty of mountain bike trails close by. Head north to visit Bodalla with its historic church and pub, or hit the beach at Tuross Head.
