A note from the Church Secretary..... Dear Friends, Autumn is now upon us and we begin another season of busy church activity, we still don't have any news about future ministry for our church. However it is up to us all to play our part in keeping the church going. This includes all the jobs that have to be done such as cleaning and maintenance of the building and also coffee mornings to run. There are also services to arrange and meetings to organise. If anybody feels they can help in any way please talk to me or any member of the leadership team. However little help you can give it will be greatly appreciated. Meanwhile I thought this poem “On the Wings of Prayer” from “prayerfully” by Helen Steiner Rice is quite helpful for us “On the Wings of Prayer” Just close your eyes And open your heart And feel your worries And cares depart Just yield yourself To the Father above And let Him hold you Secure in His love For life on earth Grows more involved With endless problems

that can’t be solved But God only asks us To do our best, Then he will “take over” And finish the rest So when you are tired Discouraged and blue, There’s always one door That is open to you And that is the door To “the House of Prayer” And you’ll Find God Waiting To meet you there, And “the House of Prayer” Is no farther away Than the quiet spot Where you kneel and pray For the heart is a temple When God is there As we place ourselves in His loving Care And he hears every prayer And answers each one When we pray in His name “thy Will be done” And the burdens that seemed To heavy to bear Are lifted away On the wings of prayer Christian Greetings

We wish you all many happy returns.

Anniversary Celebrations & Gift Day We shall celebrate our Church Anniversary over the weekend of the 12th. & 13th. October 2013, including ‘Gifts’ to our church. On Saturday 12th. October from 6.30pm we shall be

holding an anniversary social and supper. Come along for a family meal and fellowship together. Our worship on the 13th. October will include communion and be led by Reverend Colin Knight.

Mrs Joan Dennis We were very sorry to hear that Joan had passed away. She was a very quiet caring lady, always ready to have a chat and a laugh. She helped out with Messy Church for a long time and was also on the rota as a door steward.

Joan was also very skilled in making cards for all kinds of occasions. She will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with her sons and family.

Advent Coffee Morning & Sale Advance notice of the date for this year’s big fund raising event to be held on Saturday 30th. November 2013 from 10am till 13.00pm. We hope to have stalls in the hall and will be inviting local schools to come

along and sing in the church. If you have an idea for a stall or are willing to organise and man the usual stalls such as Cakes, Bric-a-Brac, Raffles, tombola’s, toiletries then please discuss with Hazel or Margaret.

MacMillan Fundraising Thank You! A very big THANK YOU to all who helped in any way with the MacMillan Coffee morning. We raised £145.10p Which was fantastic. 4

Also Fintan would like to say Thank you to those who sponsored him, he bounced 50 times at Noah’s Nursery to raise funds for MacMillan Nurses too! Well done Fintan!

Wheelie Good Fundraisers Bethany, Naomi, Alyssa and Jack took part in the Essex Churches Trust Cycle ride on Saturday 14th. September visiting the 8 churches between Ramsey and Harwich. Thank you to them for their efforts I will inform you of what we raised next month as monies are currently being collected.

Thanks to Barry to who manned the kettle at Church where several riders and striders came in for refreshments and a rest – the furthest visitors came from Colchester and they were undertaking the sponsorship by using public transport to travel between churches.

Samaritans Purse Shoe Box Appeal Dust off the Christmas wrapping paper and your old shoe boxes and prepare to pack them with goodies for

operation Christmas Child. Pat Lowry will be organising collection of your shoe boxes, Collecting them from church from 1st November till 18th November. More details to follow. Operation Christmas Child Shoe box appeal is a great way of showing Gods Love this year to others, and is a great mission tool. If you’d like to know more, speak to Pat, pick up a leaflet from Church or visit www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/

Christian Aid Supporters There will be a social evening at the Salvation Army hall on Wednesday 9th October, 2013, at 7.30pm. This will include a short informal conversation, quiz and refreshments, sandwiches, nibbles, drinks etc. It is an attempt to show thanks to existing supporters and to recruit new supporters. If you know of anyone who might be interested please invite them, and bring them along. We should be glad of any new ideas of ways of in-

creasing awareness of world poverty and in particular Christian Aid, and any ideas for fund raising. We shall be glad to see those who have not been around recently as well as new people. The September Coffee Morning at Central Church raised £195 (including donations). Thanks to all who helped. If you cannot attend any of our events Carmel Sadler, our Treasurer, is always willing to accept donations. Colin 5
