l i n e s coast border
Euan McGregor ’ s highly st ylised landscapes with a graphic and modernist feel are, for this exhibition, focused on S cotland ’ s coastline - predominantly Fife and East L othian. Euan touches on subjects c lose to his heart – the edges and f ringe spaces of the land, echoes of the past, modernist architecture, colour, light and an element of nostalgia.
He says, “ I enjoy using aerial imaging to obtain interesting angles and some elevation on the scenes. As well as the higher perspective, I find it gives me g reater re ference to study rooftop composition, or more depth in the landscape.”
Euan McGregor PAI studied at the Glasgow School of Art f rom 1994-1998 and completed a BA ( Hons ) in Printmaking. He f requently exhibits in the PAI, RGI and RSA. He lives on the north Ayrshire coast
S imon Rivett ’ s paintings explore the landsc ape of the S cottish-English border. e resultant landscape is full of varied shapes and textures set against the rolling forms of the hills, making ideal motifs for his creative explorations, using layers, colour, line and shape.
“
e paintings’ primar y concer ns are not descriptive accounts of the light, weather or topog raphy of the Bor de rs. R athe r the y take those elements and play with them, attempting to push them into pleasing compositions of shape, line and balanced colour that go beyond simply description.”
S imon Rivett trained at Goldsmiths College in L ondon and gained a BA (Honours) in Fine Art. He has been painting landscapes f rom his days as a student, painting the dec lining industrial landscape of his home in Newcastle, living and working in L ewis and exploring the unique rural landscape of the O uter Hebrides, before moving to live in Edinburgh.
