My Mother in Love

Originally written for concert performance and now reimagined in a studio setting, My Mother in Love: The Summer Sessions marks Anna Weesner’s debut release under the collaborative moniker Professor Girlfriend, featuring vocalist Charlotte Mundy—known for her electric vocalism ranging from “monstrous noise to angelic delicacy”—and Grammy-winning producer-engineer Charles Mueller. This core group is joined on various tracks by 17 top-shelf musicians.

My Mother in Love was originally commissioned and premiered by the Cygnus Ensemble with support from the Roger Shapiro Fund. In this new incarnation, all ten songs receive a vibrant second life. This “love-letter to pop music” further includes four bonus tracks: “Circular Argument” and “The Very Air,” originally commissioned and premiered by the Bowers-Fader Duo, appear here in new ensemble versions; “When Girls Learn the Alphabet” and “Why the Dialectic” were composed expressly for this studio-driven project.
