Dossier launched two decades ago with no text on the cover—just our name. While magazines’ covers screamed about flat abs, gossip, and advice, Dossier flipped the script with a clean cover. It was a good move; Dossier looked great on coffee tables.
When it was time to flip things again, Dossier went online, gratis. As soon as all the magazines left the room, Dossier came full circle. Our audience was spoiled with print copies once again.
When things look too pastel, Dossier does black. When everyone else does dull and grey, Dossier goes elegant. When things go dark, Dossier goes pretty. We beat to our own drum with our motto: “ons maak mooi” (we create beauty). Don’t be alarmed by our Afrikaans audio story by Seun Op Aarde— scan the QR code and go with the flow, whether you understand the language or not.
At Dossier, we firmly stand by the moral choice to buy “slow” luxury brands. The only thing we like fast is ideas—and the fast and furious jokes we tell on our fashion shoots. Slow art, fast friendships. We don’t do fast fashion and don’t want the world’s excess dumped on our continent.
This issue is all about love at first sight. Marrakesh will make you fall in love in one heady moment. The title of this magazine was born in a room in Marrakesh more than 25 years ago—a Moroccan dream come to life. I envisioned a travel file, a beauty file, and a fashion file to share with readers, and today, we are doing just that.
It was also love at first sight when I started working with our makeup genius, Marco Louis. He has shared this journey with me for a while. It’s been almost two since I began working with Leon Haasbroek, and we are thrilled he joined our team.
Our travel guru, Lulu Townsend, has shared her travel treasures with us for over a decade. Her travel stories are trusted, tried, and true. Colin Shandoss, who created our flower set for the Sio feature, has also been with us from the beginning. Most of the book was captured by SJ Van Zyl—and you will be captivated.
We are also deeply honored to feature Eugenio Recuenco, one of the greatest photographers of our time.
So let your eye travel, as Diana Vreeland once said. We loved creating this issue for you.

What has been the highlight of being part of this issue?
I’ve been dreaming of working with Mia and the Dossier team since I started my career. Buying and collecting the Dossier issues always ignited my imagination and inspired me to dream big. And to be reminded with each issue how much is possible on a local, creative level always used to be a solace for me. We tend to have this mentality that all the best editorial content is produced internationally but Dossier proved that is possible within South Africa. Working on this issue gave me the opportunity to flex all the things I’ve learnt through the years. It challenged me in wonderful and new ways and to be given the opportunity to express my vision with such esteemed creatives on the team is a once in a lifetime experience.
What keeps you creative?
Coffee? Joking. I tend to always look back at the masters of photography who shaped and inspired my career. I know they say look forward and not back for inspiration, but the work from those master creatives is so timeless and beautiful. It’s what feeds my creative soul. Surrounding myself and working with other creatives who are energetically aligned to my goals, vision and ideas is also what keeps me grounded, motivated and inspired.
How did your journey into mastery of your art begin? Was there a moment when you realised you can spend your life doing this one thing?
I studied graphic design, and photography was one of my subjects and I instantly fell in love with the art form. I knew it was my dream career. The first time I got paid for taking photos was the moment I knew I could make this work.
Why do you think it is important to do what you do ?
I get to freeze a moment in time, I get to create art, evoke emotions, paint with light and essentially make the world a bit prettier with each click of my camera. The world currently is chaotic, rushed, divided, dark and challenging so I do believe what I do brings some joy, light, beauty and inspiration to it.
What was a defining day in your career when you realised you have achieved what you set out to do?
I’ve had so many, but it’s a twofold answer. To me it’s the feeling I get when I see my work online, printed or inside a magazine and also every client throughout the decades that reacts with joy, excitement and pride when they see what we created together.
What keeps you motivated?
It’s hard when you’re a freelancer, you only have yourself to rely on and count on to keep you motivated and focused. Some days are wonderful and then some crush your soul. Beautiful films, music, art and content does help a lot though. And muting the rest of the noise around you that doesn’t serve the purpose to motivate or inspire you.
What do you think kills creativity?
In my experience it’s the micromanagement of creatives, distrust, insecurities, disrespect, miscommunication and unbalanced egos.
Do you ever rest? (Editor note, I know they don’t, hence my question)
What is rest? I rarely do. I pour every minute, hour and day into my work. Sometimes weeks on end with no break. But I also remind myself I get to do what I love for a career and that it will be all worth it in the end.
What makes all this hard work worthwhile?
Currently, seeing this issue we made with so much love, care, sweat and tears come to life. It’s a beautiful way to end my year and a cherry on top of my career cake. Mobile : +27 72 123 0397 | E-mail : vanzylsj@gmail.com
EDITOR AT LARGE
For sixteen years, I’ve held a lowprofile role in an industry I adore deeply. The creative energy, the talents, and the way fashion shapes every part of our lives—whether we’re aware of it or not—is what keeps me passionate. I’ve always believed that what you choose to wear is a non-verbal statement, a brand you’re sharing with the world, especially in this digital age.
The fashion industry has evolved in extraordinary ways, particularly here in South Africa. The world is watching our $1 billion emerging market and our phenomenal talent. I’ve been blessed enough to witness the rise of South African fashion throughout my career— from Thebe Magugu’s win at the 2019 LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize to Lukhanyo Mdingi’s recognition with the LVMH Karl Lagerfeld Prize in 2021 and the Amiri Prize in 2023. Working closely with internationally acclaimed designer Palesa Mokubung on her collaborations and having my own guest list at The South African Fashion Week over the past five years has been a privilege. Though our industry has come so far, I believe there is so much more on the horizon.
As we close off 2024, I invite all of us in Creative South Africa to recognize the impact we have across industries. Let’s step boldly into spaces where we can expand opportunities for our talents, both locally and globally. In its evolution from magazine to brand, Dossier Magazine will continue to feature our remarkable talents, both online and in print, with exciting changes in store for 2025. Mia, the team, and I can’t wait to celebrate our achievements together. Enjoy the LUX pages of our 2024 Annual!
What has been the highlight of being part of this issue?
From the very first experience Dossier felt like family. Though we work super hard, and many creative minds are going at it, the collaboration has always been seamless. There is an incredible sense of love and respect for every member of the crew. So, my highlight would have to be that I get to be a part of a team made up of some of the most talented people in the country and they happen to be nice people too.
In my experience within the industry this is a rare find.
What keeps you creative?
I am intentional about surrounding myself with other busy creatives.
How did your journey into mastery of your art begin?
Was there a moment when you realised you can spend your life doing this one thing?
Growing up, being a painter was the one innate thing I didn’t have to learn from scratch. So as a kid, if you were
looking for me, I could always be found in solitude painting away.
Hard up for a job after college a friend introduced me to the beauty world suggesting that If I could illustrate surely, I should be able to do basic makeup. All it took was completing one look and it instantly stuck. I came to understand that the principle for makeup is the same as for traditional art. I fell madly in love and the rest as they say, is history.
Why do you think it is important to do what you do?
To be given a gift and can make a living from it makes it mandatory for you to develop, nurture and share it. I truly believe that there is something inexplicably magic about the creative mind, so if you can, you must be a custodian for it.
What was a defining day in your career when you realised you have achieved what you set out to do?
I have been blessed to have so many beautiful moments. One of the big ones was in 2017 when I was awarded ‘Makeup Artist of the year - Africa’ by the Abrayanz Style Awards in Uganda. The award was given to recognize my work in Sub Saharan Africa. I am still incredible grateful. What keeps you motivated? MONEY.
Oh, and the thought of paging through the Dossier Print annual every December. Then we can see where we poured all that love and energy. My favourite part is going through the pages looking back at what would have been the most beautiful memories of that year and anticipating what beauty we would create next.
What do you think kills creativity?
Routine and monotony.
Do you ever rest? (Editor note, I know they don’t, hence my question)
Huh?
What makes all this hard work worthwhile?
The result is one thing. I truly live for making the most wonderful memories, meeting other creatives and having an impact on the industry in Africa.
LULU TOWNSEND WRITER
What has been the highlight of being part of this issue? Working with the insatiable Mia who is online 24 hours a day, like me!
What keeps you creative? A non-stop mind keeps me creative and bouncing ideas of others. How did your journey into mastery of your art begin? Was there a moment when you realised you can spend your life doing this one thing? After I launched my parents’ hotel in Italy. I knew then, that hotels and travel were my passion which led me to create my own hotel marketing and booking platform. To live is to travel.
Why do you think it is important to do what you do ? Genuine, honest hotel reviews can feel like a rare find in today’s travel landscape. With so much noise out there, staying true to yourself and your audience is essential. Integrity in the travel industry has never been more important. As travellers increasingly rely on trusted voices for guidance, delivering authentic insights isn’t just a responsibility; it’s a way to stand out in a sea of generic recommendations. Real experiences, thoughtful critiques, and transparency matter now more than ever.
What was a defining day in your career when you realised you have achieved what you set out to do? When I sold my first travel business.
What keeps you motivated? Passion for Travel and helping hotels tell their story.
What do you think kills creativity? Negativity and a narrow minded outlook.
Do you ever rest? (Editor note, I know they don’t, hence my question) hahahahaha you know the answer to that
What makes all this hard work worthwhile? Life, travel and working with other brilliant creatives.
What has been the highlight of being part of this issue?
The highlight of being a part of this issue for me has been the opportunity to collaborate with a team of passionate creatives working together to produce beauty beyond borders.
What keeps you creative?
Creativity is an affirmation of life.
I am a channel and I make myself available as a conduit for this energetic expression to flow through me.
I don’t think about it too much. MELODY

I simply follow instruction and allow it to manifest as it chooses.
How did your journey into mastery of your art begin? Was there a moment when you realised you can spend your life doing this one thing?
I have always been a maker and a creative for as long as I can remember.
I made a conscious decision that this would be my life and that I would be the best creative expression of myself.
Choosing to be a floral designer was the key that unlocked my full potential.
Why do you think it is important to do what you do ?
I am a missionary of glamour.
Beauty has saved me from myself and continues to save me every single time that I create something beautiful in service of others.
Beauty has the ability to shine a light beyond what our eyes can see.
An armada of beautiful manifestations creates a force with an energy that is impossible to resist.
Creativity with intention can penetrate a closed heart and shine a bright light into the darkest corner.
What has been the highlight of being part of this issue?
The highlight for me has been seeing this incredibly talented group of creatives come together, each with their own expertise, to create something truly special. The energy was contagious, and the collaborative process was what made it such a unique experience. Watching how everyone contributed to this shared vision and how those individual efforts turned into a unified whole was pure magic. What keeps you creative?
Creative collaboration is essential for me. Beyond that, I stay inspired by intentionally engaging with art—whether it’s fashion, music, or visual arts—and balancing that with deliberate periods of stepping away from screens. How did your journey into mastery of your art begin? Was there a moment when you realised you can spend your life doing this one thing?
I believe mastery is a moving target—it’s the pursuit itself that really shapes us. I’ve never felt like I’ve “arrived”—and I hope I never do. Staying curious and open to learning from those around me is what keeps me passionate about this path.
What keeps you motivated?

What was a defining day in your career when you realised you have achieved what you set out to do?
Each day when I show up to do what I do, especially when it’s hard is when I realise that I am achieving what I have set out to do.
What keeps you motivated?
Bills, they keep me motivated.
What do you think kills creativity?
Comparison kills creativity.
Do you ever rest? (Editor note, I know they don’t, hence my question)
Rest for me does not mean a vacation.
Rest is inner peace.
When I create I am at peace.
When I am restless it is impossible to rest.
There is always the next idea, the next project, the new design.
What makes all this hard work worthwhile?
The hard work is between me and the Creator. Is it worthwhile?
I think it is worth doing.
my biggest motivators. They remind me why I do what I do. Beyond that, I derive a deep satisfaction from seeing others succeed and knowing I’ve contributed to their journey.
What do you think kills creativity?
Creativity often struggles under the weight of day-to-day stress. But one can’t escape those unfortunately.
Do you ever rest? (Editor note, I know they don’t, hence my question)
I’d love to say yes, but the truth is I don’t rest nearly as much as I should. Maybe one day, when my to-do list is a little shorter. But right now, I thrive on being in motion. Rest will come eventually.
What makes all this hard work worthwhile?
The feast for the eyes that’s about to be served in this issue.
There’s something so rewarding about seeing a vision come to life through hard work, creativity, and dedication. The beautiful shots, the styling, the editing, the whatsap post mortems and the energy of the entire team—it’s all the culmination of so much effort. But beyond the visual impact, it’s the feeling that we’ve created something meaningful, that really makes it all worth it.
Originally launched in 1921, this watch was specifically created during the Roaring Twenties, a time of opulence, and style. The unique design of the American 1921 is a direct reflection of the era’s creative spirit, making it one of the most distinctive in Vacheron Constantin’s heritage.
One of the defining features of the American 1921 is its crown, which is positioned at an unconventional angle between the 1 and 2 o’clock positions. This positioning allows the wearer to read the time without having to turn their wrist, making the watch not only functional but also a statement of individuality and design ingenuity. The dial is characterized by a “railway track” minute scale and bold black-painted Arabic numerals, which lend it a timeless, vintage appeal. The small seconds subdial, located between 3 and 4 o’clock, further adds to the watch’s unique aesthetic.
Powered by a manual-winding movement, the American 1921 offers an impressive power reserve of nearly three days, ensuring reliability and precision. Despite being a piece with historical roots, it continues to captivate modern audiences with its exquisite craftsmanship and innovative design.

GRAFF Eclipse watch feels as good as it looks, with an all-black titanium, diamond-like carbon case that is both lightweight and scratch resistant. Each component of the watch is blacker than black – the Graff icon, dial, hands, hour markers and black diamond-tipped crown – creating a visually striking statement upon the wrist. With a case size measuring just 7mm, the Slim Eclipse is an exceptionally slender timepiece, housing a powerful automatic movement designed and built exclusively for Graff in Switzerland.
Kevin Collins started making ceramics in 2022, having acquired a kiln two weeks before lock down. He was previously a brand strategist at various ad agencies and brand communications lecturer at Vega. In the 1970’s he had studied painting under Stanley Pinker, Cecil Skotness and Helmut Starke at Michaelis School a part of the University of Cape Town. Ceramics offered him a way of connection both physically and mentally with the earth. The tyranny of working and communicating digitally is one reason for his appetite for this craft to produce his art. It is the perfect antidote to the online world. “ Of all the crafts, perhaps pottery does this most successfully”, he says.
It requires vast imagination, speed and technique to transform a lump of wet clay into an object.

Afresh take on timeless luxury, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton Fine Jewelry collection is bold, and undeniably graphic. This exciting new chapter for the Maison as it reimagines the iconic Damier pattern. A symbol of infinity first introduced in 1888,conceived by Louis and Georges Vuitton as a unique mark of eternity, inspired by its birth year and notably the three number eights.
We love the reinterpreted unisex bracelet which is takes it cue from the original tennis bracelet’s casual luxury. “I thought about the classic tennis bracelet – always in motion and always on your wrist,” says Francesca Amfitheatrof, LV Artistic Director for Watches and Jewelry.
Introduced in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco quickly amassed a following among racing enthusiasts and watch lovers alike.
The TAG Heuer Monaco’s heritage has continuously been linked to motor racing and the history of cinema, notably through its association with actor Steve McQueen. In the film “Le Mans” of 1971, McQueen’s character sported a Monaco, cementing its status as an icon of style and a cornerstone of motor racing culture.
Beyond its cinematic fame, the TAG Heuer Monaco has continually evolved with each iteration building upon the last, refining the precision and distinctive design that define this iconic model. The TAG Heuer Monaco has been a beacon of innovation, continually adapting with new technologies and materials while remaining true to its racing legacy. Celebrating 50 years of serving business men who know
by Eugenio Recuenco
For almost 8 years, famed photographer and director Eugenio Recuenco has produced a personal photographic project called “365º” which consists of 369 photographs, one for each day of the year. 369 images, 8 years of work, 120 models, a team of 300 people and the unique vision of Eugenio Recuenco.
This renowned photographer and crossover artist’s career combines advertising, fashion, set design, and art. Over more than twenty-five years of professional work, he has explored a variety of image-related genres, including fashion films, commercials, music videos, and, of course, photography.
The 365º project is a photographic series of 369 photographs with their own identity, which, shown together, become a sensory, aesthetic, conceptual and avant-garde artistic installation. 365º is a photographic journey through world and personal events. From the arts of the Middle Ages to social networks, going through some historical milestones, and others that are totally current. Becoming the project as a whole, a representation of the state in which the world is plunged, and the reflections that we face in our intimacy 365º analyzes reality in a subtle way and works like a mirror facing society- with irony and visual power. It alludes to the world of Art, Cinema, Religion or Politics, some with iconographic references, while it challenges the viewer in their interpretation process.
“The absurd, that unknown to our nature, that arrives without warning into our lives to take charge of our actions.”
“I thought that possibly the representation of the absurdity of many of our daily actions could become the fiercest criticism; at the same time as helping us to smile and make us change in intimacy”, Recuenco says.
Eugenio Recuenco was born in Madrid in May 1968, in the middle of student protests that had spread out from Paris. As he himself would say “ I heard all that fuss, and was in a rush to be born and see what was going on”.
With that curiosity, he has given the world the most striking photographic images. With this book he reimagines world events in small microcosms. His sometimes subtle and often elaborate settings are constructed in a cinematic manner. These are confined to the box of the series, which measures 3 meters high and 2.5 meters wide. In this series, Recuenco reinterprets September 11, places Star Wars stormtroopers, makes references to Edward Hopper and Jan van Eyck, dresses Mary as Superwoman, and surrounds Donald Trump with showgirls.
The artist subtly analyses reality in his works and holds a mirror to society with irony, false perception, and visual power.

Now here the journey begins, the journey back to the inner child. If time is an illusion that inner child, that innocence, that Divine spark still exists within you. But how do we access it?
This is the journey I embarked on through digital art, sound and other collaborators to create an authentic, raw album “Maak of ek Normaal is”’. If you choose to take the trip, both the red and blue pill at the same time then scan the QR code, it will take you to my website and the pages will come alive. There are different storylines to follow, I don’t want to say too much so relax, put your headphones on and make your own story - your own journey back to your inner child. A tip: If you are viewing on a laptop or desktop, the pages are shown like they are in the magazine, one next to the other. You can play both pages at the same time and watch them interact in an interesting way. Just choose which sides sound you want to listen to and mute the other side.
See you on the other side. Seun

Sandile Mahlangu arrived more than an hour early for the shoot at the newly launched Steyn City Saxon Hotel. He is best known for roles like Sbu Twala in Netflix’s How to Ruin Christmas series and Simo Shabangu in Scandal!. His breakout role as Siya in Single Guys and appearances in shows like Rhythm City and films like Shaft 6 have made him a household name.
So I rushed to get to the hotel, how can I let our star of the show wait alone? In the shades of greens of the decor at the hotel, he was sitting at the back, drinking water, part of a weekly cleanse, he tells. He does look vibrant. We easily fall into conversation that touched on aliens and Hollywood and POLITIX and his respect for his mama. This charming man is shooting a high-octane action telenovela, Empini, at the moment and next stars in the Netflix film Lobola Man. Outside of acting, he owns a fashion label called SANDU, showcasing his versatility in business and the arts.
Was a lovely Sunday afternoon at the hotel with photographer SJ Van Zyl, and stylist Melody Middlewick.
The hotel rooms are perfect for gentlemen such as Sandile. There is space for everything from small business meetings, to running or going for a walk in the secure estate, well, you can even relax by the biggest swimming pool our eyes have seen. The hotel suites all have kitchenettes, making it a great longer stay option. Sandile’s calm charm in the green luxury of the Steyn City Saxon, made for a perfect way to launch POLITIX in South Africa.
In the world of craftsmanship, there are few who truly elevate their art to a level where every detail feels intentional, every choice thoughtfully executed. Michael Chandler, the celebrated ceramicist from Cape Town, and Pierre De Klerk, Cellar Master at Graham Beck, are two such artisans. While their work may seem different at first glance—ceramics versus sparkling wine—their approach to their craft shares a deep, shared dedication to mastery.
Chandler’s ceramics are playful, yet purposeful. His pieces—whether plates, tiles, or atolls— invite us to step into a small world filled with stories, memories, and moments from nature. One of his most notable works, a collaboration with Cult Gaia in Miami, transformed the front of a store into a vibrant mural made of hand-painted tiles. The design, with its trees, birds, and a figure climbing toward the sky, carries a message: “May all the doors of the world always be open to you.” It was a piece that caught the eye of art and design enthusiasts everywhere, confirming Chandler’s place as a master of his craft.
Chandler’s signature use of blue and white tones gives his work a nostalgic, calming feel. His pieces are more than just functional objects; they’re invitations to slow down and look closer. Each tiny detail, every curve or stroke, is part of a bigger picture—a reflection of the artist’s love for nature, his sense of humor, and his optimism. There’s nothing forced about Chandler’s work. It’s a reminder to take your time, to pause, and to appreciate the beauty in the everyday.
Similarly, Pierre De Klerk’s wines at Graham Beck are a celebration of patience, precision, and craftsmanship. Since joining Graham Beck in 2010, De Klerk has carried forward the legacy of Cap Classique, South Africa’s answer to sparkling wine, by the legendary Pieter Ferreira, affectionately known as Mr. Bubbles. De Klerk’s role as Cellar Master means he oversees every detail of the wine-making process, in pursuit of the perfect bubbly.
Take, for example, Graham Beck’s Ultra Brut, a wine that is crafted without added sugar to highlight the natural purity of the terroir. The zero-dosage method is an art
in itself—a balance of restraint and skill, allowing the wine to age gracefully and develop complex flavors while remaining elegant and true to its origins. For Graham Beck it’s not about shortcuts; it’s about embracing the time and the care it takes to create something exceptional. As with Chandler’s ceramics, it’s the details, the small decisions, that ultimately define the work. And on completion of a work, the celebration with a cold glass of bubbly.
Both Chandler and De Klerk embody a philosophy of mastery that goes beyond simply creating something beautiful. For them, it’s about honing their craft, paying attention to every moment of the process. Whether through the tactile world of ceramics or the effervescent world of sparkling wine, their work invites us to appreciate the art of making and the patience required to truly master a craft.
In the end, what both Chandler and De Klerk remind us is that true mastery isn’t just about the final product—it’s about the commitment, the focus, and the attention to detail that goes into every step of the journey. Raise a glass!

Aformidable artist whose proclivity for prose forms the nucleus of her heartrending songs, multi-hyphenate poet, DJ and singer-songwriter Sio has a remarkable ability to lay her soul bare and tap into the rich spectrum of human experience. Authentic vulnerability comes naturally to the South African storyteller, it’s inherent in her artistry; utilising poetry, songwriting, spoken word and her delicate yet powerful voice to share her life experiences. With impeccable storytelling skills and lyricism, Sio conjures up a whole other world for herself, and her listeners, to escape into. Her biographical narratives and wordplay are utterly compelling and engaging, creating songs that people from all walks of life can connect with.
With an extensive discography that represents her prolific output, her music has resonated with listeners all over the world, channelling her unwavering spirit into numerous projects. With new album Sarang , Sio ushers in a new phase of her creative output, experimenting with the Karmic notion that “what you put out there, comes back to you” and imbuing her work with joyous energy. One of South Africa’s leading female voices, with widespread respect and a long list of
collaborators and industry supporters, Sio is a prolific powerhouse whose visionary writing, unique voice and high work ethic make her a force to be reckoned with…
Born and raised in SA township Ennerdale, a predominantly black and “coloured” district, Sio’s formative years were impacted by the complexity of her racial categorisation, along with the complicated nature of her family unit. Being tall, as well as not “coloured enough” or “Black enough” meant she was ostracised by other kids at school, which left her isolated. It was within this isolation that her imagination became a place of solace. In her adolescence, Sio began to read and books became the catalyst behind an expansion of her imaginative escapism. Unbeknownst to her, having access to entire worlds through the words on the pages of her books would be foundational for the success that came later on in life. Despite the difficulties she faced as a youngster, Sio’s spirit remained strong and she initially committed to studying law before taking up modelling. Through that she was able to move into the arts, which had never been present in her childhood. A diploma in Theatre Studies came next, opening her up to poetry and songwriting.
Just as words provided access to other worlds in her youth, songwriting and music were the catalyst behind another pivotal development in Sio’s evolution - giving her the opportunity to explore and express herself, unfiltered, for the first time. She harnessed this deep connection with language and it has become the cornerstone of her artistry, fueling her upwards trajectory and bringing her to the attention of some of SA’s most influential producers. From her early work with Luka, to Lilac Jeans, Julian Gomes and the legend Charles Webster, Sio’s unique appeal transported her from relative obscurity to being an in-demand singer songwriter.
Once she began creating, the words and songs flowed out of her; joy, pain, sorrow,
heartbreak, all permeating into her output and building a solid reputation in the process. Her spellbinding use of words and courageous vulnerability became pillars of her artistic potency. Sio’s unrelenting drive to create, and share her experiences, has led to a plethora of singles, EPs and albums.
A spiritually connected artist, Sio’s outlook is often inspired by the workings of the universe and how we, as energetic beings, can impact the world, and our own lives. With this in mind, her latest album Sarang / seeks to put one particular spiritual practice to the test. There is a notion that you get back what you put out there - along the lines of the law of attraction. With most of her previous output inspired by difficult experiences, and those same things coming back to her, Sio decided to fill her life with joy by imbuing her new music with positivity. A firm believer in the power of the tongue, she has adopted a new way of being, adapting her language and songwriting to nurture more happiness. Sarang is Korean for Love, which sets out the objective of the new album in no uncertain terms. Intentionality has been key to this shift in Sio’s philosophy and creativity. By imbuing her work with conscious intention, she is ushering in a new phase of artistry - and transforming her life in the process.
More than a wordsmith, Sio’s powerful prose represents her limitless capabilities. The complexity of imperfection, the constant process of learning and growth and the fragility of the heart combined with duality, nuance and the laws of the universe, all merge into her beautifully composed songs. With a renewed perspective rooted in conscious positive intention and an unshakable drive to continue creating and sharing, Sio expertly channels the universal human experience into her music. Unique, widely respected and a natural born rebel, Sio is the author of a wholly inspiring legacy…

Laurence Graff’s name has long been associated with the world’s most exquisite diamonds, but his journey to this level of mastery and recognition is anything but ordinary. From a young apprentice with no guarantees of success to one of the most influential figures in the diamond industry, Graff’s life mirrors the stones he works with—each moment a part of a careful, transformative process that has resulted in a rare brilliance.
"I’ve always been fascinated by diamonds," Graff reflects. "It was something I felt deep inside, an instinct to understand their purity, the way they were cut, how they caught the light. It wasn’t just a career for me; it became an obsession." That obsession began at the age of 15, when his mother took him to Hatton Garden, London’s famed jewellery district, to begin his first job as an apprentice. The early days were humble, marked by long hours spent scrubbing floors and learning the trade from the ground up. But even then, Graff showed signs of the relentless ambition that would define his career. First, he was told, "You’ll never make the grade." Rather than taking the criticism to heart, he used it as fuel to push himself harder. "I didn’t let it stop me. If anything, it made me more determined."
Graff understood the value of hard work from an early age. By the time he was 18, he had already launched his first business, partnering with an experienced jeweller to repair antique Victorian jewellery.
The breakthrough moment came when Graff convinced a diamond dealer to sell him 33 small stones for £60. Instead of making multiple rings, he envisioned something larger—a single, dazzling piece that would unite all the diamonds in a cohesive, striking design. The result was a ring that sold almost immediately. The dealer, impressed by Graff’s vision, quickly placed another order. It was a pivotal moment in Graff’s career.
In 1960, Graff Diamonds was founded, and the company quickly became synonymous with extraordinary stones and impeccable craftsmanship. Graff’s ethos was simple: source the best, cut it perfectly, and set it in jewellery that transcends time. "We treat our jewels like family," he’s said, "because they are truly special. We create pieces that will last forever."
Today, Graff is known for having handled more significant diamonds than any other diamantaire in history. His portfolio includes historic stones of unrivaled value as well as newly discovered gems poised to become icons in their own right. Each piece in the Graff collection tells
a unique story, capturing a moment in time, an emotion, or a vision. There is a certain magic in Graff’s jewellery—it doesn’t just shine; it dazzles in a way that seems to hold the light within it.
The brand’s recent "I Wish" collection is a perfect example of this artistry. Designed as an homage to the allure and magic of high jewellery, it features pieces that push the boundaries of what is possible in design and craftsmanship. One standout piece is a 38.88-carat Fancy Intense Yellow oval diamond ring, encircled by a halo of white diamonds. Another is a graphic bracelet featuring a stunning 6-carat kite-cut Colombian emerald surrounded by baguette-cut emeralds and yellow diamonds. These creations are not just jewellery; they are wearable art, each piece a work of devotion, beauty, and perfection.
What sets Graff apart is not just the stones he acquires but the artistry with which they are brought to life. Each piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans who dedicate countless hours to every detail, ensuring that each creation is as near to perfection as possible. In an age of mass production, Graff’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship remains unwavering. His pieces are as timeless as the diamonds themselves.
Graff’s influence extends beyond the creation of beautiful jewellery; it lies in the legacy he has built—a legacy grounded in passion, vision, and the pursuit of excellence. With over six decades of experience, Graff remains a true luminary in the world of luxury jewellery, continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible while maintaining a deep respect for the heritage and magic of diamonds.

Ruan Jooste’s work explores themes of identity, cultural hybridity, and societal commentary with ability to weave storytelling that are deeply rooted in South African culture yet universally resonant.
Born in 1988 in Nigel, a modest town southeast of Johannesburg, South Africa, Ruan’s journey as an artist has been defined by a deep passion for creative expression. While his initial interest was in fashion design, his path soon shifted toward photography—a skill he mastered through selfteaching. This interplay between design and photography eventually led to his unique digital art practice, a medium that has allowed him to craft a distinctive and evocative artistic voice.
Ruan’s art seamlessly combines the precision of fashion design with the narrative depth of photography. This duality in his work has given rise to a style that is both visually compelling and rich in storytelling. His global experiences—living in dynamic cities such as Pretoria, Toronto, Johannesburg, Phuket, and now Cape Town—have profoundly influenced his creative lens. These multicultural encounters have reinforced his belief in the shared humanity that connects us all, a philosophy that resonates deeply within his art.
In 2021, Ruan’s artistic journey reached a significant milestone with his debut solo exhibition in Cape Town. The event garnered critical acclaim and set the stage for further achievements. His work has graced the covers of publications like the Sunday Times Lifestyle section and Art Times magazine. International recognition followed, with his pieces showcased at esteemed venues such as the Paris AKAA Art Fair, galleries in New York, Austria, and prestigious collections, including the RMB corporate collection. Additionally, his work has made its mark in the auction world through Strauss & Co.
The universal appeal of Ruan’s art lies in its ability to transcend cultural boundaries. Collectors from diverse backgrounds have found a profound connection with his work, a testament to its universal themes of identity, connection, and shared humanity.
Ruan’s journey from a small South African town to the global art stage exemplifies the power of self-discovery and creativity.
Exploring themes of identity, cultural hybridity, and societal commentary. Each piece stands as a testament to his ability to weave storytelling with visual artistry, creating works that are deeply rooted in South African culture yet universally resonant.
His use of luxury branding, such as Chanel motifs, juxtaposed with everyday South African scenes, critiques the pervasive reach of consumer culture. This tension highlights how global ideals of beauty and success permeate even the most localized contexts, challenging viewers to reconsider the impact of these influences on identity and aspiration.
Ruan’s portrayal of femininity is multifaceted, celebrating South African women as both global citizens and custodians of cultural heritage. Works like Khaya Kween and Koek n Tee blend traditional attire with high-fashion elements, such as a Louis Vuitton-inspired Ndebele blanket or a skirt adorned with iconic South African household brands. These choices honor heritage while showcasing the modern woman’s ability to navigate a world of shifting expectations and opportunities.
In Lekka Bubblegum, a young entrepreneur’s Chappiesinspired suit not only draws from a beloved South African brand but also symbolizes innovation, determination, and empowerment. Similarly, in Koek n Tee, a woman indulging in high tea at the historic Mount Nelson Hotel reflects a reclamation of space and history, transforming an act of leisure into one of triumph over adversity.
In Spar & a Jack Russell, Ruan captures the convergence of tradition and modernity. The central figure, adorned in a blend of African patterns and luxury brands, symbolizes the seamless merging of heritage with contemporary influences. The inclusion of a SPAR store and a designer-clad dog anchors the scene in the realities of modern South Africa, celebrating the nation’s dynamic cultural evolution.
Each piece reflects the struggles and triumphs that define South African life. His works invite
viewers into a world where color, texture, and symbolism converge to depict the beauty and complexity of identity.
Ruan’s ability to celebrate the specificity of South African culture while engaging with universal themes is what sets his work apart. His pieces are not only a reflection of who South Africans are but also a lens through which global audiences can explore themes of resilience, adaptability, and the blending of tradition and modernity.
One fine morning, the Dossier team piled into two vehicles—two models, a stylist, makeup artist, photographer, and myself. We all squeezed between loads of clothing, makeup, and equipment. Six hours later, I found myself experiencing that rare, ineffable feeling that keeps me pushing forward in publishing: the faces of my team as they laid eyes on the Fifty-Five Mjejane. It wasn’t exactly shock, but more like disbelief— frozen faces, wide eyes—and then, like the melting of ice on a hot day, pure ecstasy. It was as if we had stepped off the edge of the world into another one entirely.
Leaving behind the grit of Jozi, we entered something so far removed from civilization that it felt almost otherworldly. It was like someone had opened a door and revealed a kingdom hidden from the mundane world. Our personal Narnia. The bush—life feels uninterrupted, and the stillness promises peace. It’s an experience where nature dictates the rhythm, and the only noise you hear is the hippos chatting to each other in the river below the deck.
The path that leads you into the Fifty-Five Mjejane main area is circled by domed tribal-style rooms, each a private retreat. The design is inspired by the traditional Zulu village, known as an umuzi, with beehive-shaped huts or indluserving as homes for the community. This connection to the past is profound. Each grass dome feels like a bridge between the ancient and the present, a space where history, culture, and nature meet in perfect harmony. I have great respect for a dome, as I know they take time to engineer, but a dome plays with our imaginations.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with the sounds of nature—the murmur of the river and the unmistakable happiness of hippos. And then, as if on cue, a magnificent elephant ambled toward us, at the very same moment our hosts handed us cold bubbly. I still think the team thinks it was staged, but the bush could not be bothered by our expectations. One cannot expect to see all the animals on a
game drive. People forget that.
While the team started getting busy with the photography, I moved slowly from room to room. The guest bathroom is a small cathedral of stone, one of the most astounding places I’ve ever washed my hands.
The rooms are a masterful blend of simplicity and elegance, with organic materials that echo the natural world outside—total luxury.
As I explored the property, I found myself drawn to the details: the elegant yet understated interiors that celebrate the richness of local craftsmanship, the handcrafted furniture, and the textures that evoke the feeling of being deeply connected to nature. Everything here has a purpose and a story—a reminder that every object, every design element, is chosen with care to complement the natural surroundings.
The best thing to do at Fifty-Five Mjejane is to take your closest family members for a good connection time. The second best thing would be to take long-time friends. Here you will have the time to talk. Of course, being an awardwinning lodge means there is a gym, pool table, and a room to watch sports, but one would miss a great opportunity if you don’t spend time at the table or around the fire, talking—like our forefathers used to do on verandas and under trees. My ultimate dream would be to take my kids and family for three nights. What a joyful privilege that would be. If you can, you should.
It is self-catering, so take a foodie. They will be in their element with the contemporary kitchen equipment and pizza oven. At night, around the fire, deeper bonds will be forged.
We went to make images, but the team still managed to get game drives in, which are included. I stayed to sit on my private veranda, watching the sky turn pink and then burst forth into stars, thinking of how to return with my family one day soon.

“Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it.”
- Lao Tzu
“What do you want to know, my heart?”
“How did it start?”
“With a single drop of water.”
In “There Were Rivers in the Sky” by Turkish author Elif Shafak, a single drop of water sets the stage for a sweeping narrative. This drop falls on the head of Ashurbanipal, the great ruler of Mesopotamia, as he strolls through his opulent gardens. He is on his way to execute his beloved childhood teacher. But this drop, stunned experience, rises again into the clouds, returning again and again—witnessing the fetid Thames during the cholera epidemic and even finding its way to the laboratory of Jacques Benveniste. So it witnesses time.
This idea of water carrying memories—of emotions, substances, and time—is not merely poetic. It draws on controversial scientific theories, blending spirituality with research that has both fascinated and divided the scientific community.
The notion that water might “remember” substances originates from a 1988 study by French immunologist Jacques Benveniste. Published in the prestigious journal Nature, his research claimed that water could retain the biological activity of substances, even after being diluted to the point where no molecules of the original substance remained. This study was groundbreaking, suggesting a potential mechanism for the principles of homeopathy, which asserts that highly diluted substances can have therapeutic effects.
However, Benveniste’s findings were met with widespread skepticism. Critics questioned his methodology and argued that the results could not be reliably reproduced. The
controversy culminated in Benveniste being ostracized by the scientific community, his reputation tarnished by accusations of pseudoscience.
Later, Japanese researcher Masaru Emoto explored another unconventional aspect of water: its interaction with human consciousness. Emoto proposed that water could respond to thoughts, emotions, and even words in ways visible through its crystallization patterns.
In his experiments, water exposed to positive stimuli— such as words like “love” or “gratitude,” or classical music by composers like Mozart and Beethoven— formed intricate, symmetrical crystals. In contrast, water exposed to negative words like “hate” or harsh music produced distorted, irregular shapes.
Emoto’s work gained popular attention, particularly through his books and films, but it faced strong criticism from the scientific community. His experiments were accused of lacking rigor, with skeptics pointing out that confirmation bias and subjective interpretation could easily influence the results.
The story of water, as told in Shafak’s novel and through these scientific lenses, bridges the poetic and the empirical. Whether in the sweeping arcs of fiction or the contentious claims of researchers, water becomes a witness to humanity’s most profound moments, carrying memories—real or imagined—through time.
Perhaps, like the drop in Ashurbanipal’s garden, water flows between realms, collecting stories of love, conflict, and curiosity, leaving us to wonder: what does it truly remember?
Louis Vuitton’s By the Pool collection is summery, carefree blending of luxe with playful, artistic expression. The collection reimagines the iconic monogram through fresh, tactile treatments, like this piece with a watercolor effect in shades of blue, which evokes a sense of fluidity, mimicking the shimmer of water and the lightness of the season.

Tommy Forever starts out in fresh and spicy territory with notes of lemon, ginger and black pepper. Aromatic touches come through in the form of lavender and clary sage, while salty woodiness wraps it up rather nicely.
Tommy Girl Forever does the fruity-floral thing with notes of pear, blackcurrant, freesia and jasmine in the mix. Initially fresh, it ends with the warm creamy tones of sandalwood.

THE FINE WATER COMPANY.
NICO, TELL US HOW YOU BECAME A WATER CONNOISSEUR?
This is a really interesting and relevant question! In South Africa, and likely around the world, we are constantly reminded of water’s essential value for survival. We drink water straight from the tap without really questioning its source. Growing up, we were taught by our grandparents that water is simply water, and the lower the mineral content (or Total Dissolved Solids, TDS), the better the quality, as water with lower minerality was considered “pure.” However, this belief is incorrect, and it’s important that we shift this perception through education and awareness.
I remember as a child tasting water from different sources and still recall the distinct taste of the tap water near the assembly hall at my primary school, which was shaded by trees, compared to the water at home. Interestingly, it wasn’t necessarily the best quality water, but it had a unique, fresh taste.
From then to now, I’ve explored many different businesses, including owning a craft brewery in Stellenbosch. In brewing, water quality is paramount, as it greatly influences the flavor of the beer. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 lockdown and alcohol sales restrictions led to the closure of the brewery, and it was at that point I decided to explore something completely new— something essential, natural, and truly valuable. Water was the field I chose, and it has been one of the most rewarding journeys of my life. I am now a certified water sommelier and an international water tasting judge. I’m one of two water sommeliers in South Africa.
There’s a lot to consider when drinking tap water! The first thing to note is that tap water gives the illusion that water is abundant and always available, but in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. Only about 3% of the Earth’s water is fresh and drinkable, and the majority of that is locked away as ice at the North and South Poles, leaving us with roughly just 1.2% of the planet’s fresh water available for consumption. Thankfully, we have an active water cycle where water evaporates from oceans and lakes and falls as rain, but
if water sources aren’t properly protected, they can become polluted, which requires extensive filtration and treatment.
Unfortunately, tap water is among the most processed water on Earth. It often contains harmful additives like chlorine and fluoride. Chlorine is added to disinfect and kill bacteria, while fluoride is intended to help “re-mineralize” teeth. However, both are highly toxic. Chlorine gas, for example, has been used as a chemical weapon, and fluoride is actually a byproduct of industrial phosphate fertilizer production, known as fluosilicic acid. The fluosilicic acid is removed from fertilizer and the chemical is diluted into our water supply, despite its potential harm. Studies have even shown a direct inverse relationship between fluoride intake and human IQ, suggesting that higher fluoride levels correlate with lower IQ in tested subjects.
While I understand that tap water is essential and that many people rely on it as their primary water source, it’s important to filter it, if possible, to remove chlorine and fluoride. This ensures safer, healthier drinking water.
PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY MINERAL WATER IS GOOD FOR US?
Water is not just water—different water sources around the world contain varying minerals, which are dissolved from the soil or terroir of that particular region. This is a key factor in the quality and properties of the water. The higher the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) or mineral content, the more hydrating the water tends to be. On the other hand, distilled water or water that’s been filtered through Reverse Osmosis is not ideal for drinking, as it lacks minerals. Such water can actually leach minerals from your body, which can lead to further dehydration. In essence, it will leave you feeling thirstier!
A good piece of advice is to add a pinch of Celtic sea salt to your water to introduce some beneficial minerals. However, in my opinion, it’s far better to choose a mineral-rich water that naturally contains a high level of dissolved minerals. We have water from volcanic regions packed with minerals, and we also have glacial water with a low TDS. As a water sommelier, I specifically pair water with food and wine to enhance the overall
tasting experience. By selecting the right water to complement a wine or meal, I can significantly elevate the flavours and the entire epicurean journey!
When selecting water, I not only look for a high TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level, but also ensure the water has a low concentration of nitrates (NO3). Nitrate levels can be a sign of pollution, often stemming from agricultural runoff, pesticides, or nearby urban areas. Ideally, we want the nitrate level to be as close to zero as possible, while still maximizing the TDS.
Just as a fun fact, water with a high magnesium content is excellent for brewing coffee. Magnesium helps to extract more natural sugars from the coffee beans, resulting in a smoother, sweeter cup of coffee.
Personally, I’m a fan of Mountain Falls water from Hermanus. It has the highest TDS in South Africa, with 345 mg/L, and it contains zero nitrates—making it one of the purest and most mineral-rich waters available.

MOUNTAIN FALLS (SOUTH AFRICA)
Mountain Falls presents a range of unique qualities and advantages, as detailed on its label: it boasts a perfectly balanced pH of 7 and a TDS of 345 mg/l, significantly exceeding the minimum global standard for Mineral Water. Additionally, it has an unusually high concentration of calcium and magnesium, both vital for human health. Bottled at the source at the foot of the Klein River mountain range in the Overberg, this water remained undiscovered for a decade.
ISKLD (DENMARK)
With a pH of 7.6 at the source, ISKLD is naturally alkaline and features a medium level of dissolved solids (TDS of 325 mg/l). Its high content of calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate gives the water a pleasant milky texture and substantial volume.

>WHAT ABOUT MAKING ICE FOR YOUR DRINKS SUCH AS WHISKEYS?
This question becomes especially relevant when we consider the chlorine and fluoride added to tap water. Chlorine is not only toxic, but it also destroys flavor. It can ruin the taste of anything it comes into contact with, whether you’re boiling pasta or making ice cubes from tap water. It’s particularly frustrating when you think about spending a good amount of money on a bottle of whiskey, only for the chlorine in your water to completely spoil the flavour of that glass of whiskey you’ve been looking forward to all day.

Suspended on steep mountain slopes over Cape Town’s iconic Atlantic Seaboard is Icaria, a multi-level seaside holiday home with stupendous ocean views.
‘You couldn’t ask for a more dramatic position, like something out of James Bond’s Skyfall … as it hugs the contour of a 45-degree cliff over four levels.
While gradually gliding up the vertiginous mountainside in Icaria’s funicular, the bustle of Victoria Road and the hip Atlantic Seaboard scene falls away until all you can see is the swell of the endless sea below. By the time you reach the front door, all you hear is the peaceful shushing of waves and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve discovered an off-the-beatentrack island in Greece. Stone steps wind through a terraced garden reminiscent of the Mediterranean, taking you into this utterly secluded and tranquil hideaway just minutes from the heart of the city and Cape Town’s most beautiful sandy beaches.
Surprisingly, Icaria is remarkably grounded given the mountainside that surrounds it: the entire south-facing facade is punctuated with windows that bring the granite boulders and fynbos vegetation of Table Mountain Nature Reserve right indoors.
On a lowest terrace, overlooking the pool area, is the poolside suite; one level above is the ‘cave’ bedroom – so-called because of the way granite boulders have been incorporated into the architecture. Both have jaw-dropping views out over the pool and ocean.
Here the Cape Peninsula disappears off to the south and gaze out over the endless horizon of the Atlantic Ocean.

Sandy Francis from Duchess of Mane’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary, taking her around the globe to work with top professionals, learn new techniques, and refine her craft. “My career has taken me all over Europe to work and upgrade my skills,” she explains. The journey started in 2016 with a pivotal experience in Russia, where she met her first mentor, Georgiy Kot, a moment that marked the beginning of her love affair with hair artistry.
From there, her path led her to prestigious international events and training opportunities. She has worked at the White Gallery (Bridal Fashion Week) in London, attended cutting seminars in Australia with Tony & Guy, trained with celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin in the USA, and learned colour techniques from the iconic Tracey Cunningham, Jennifer Lopez’s colourist.
She has also worked with the Kardashians’ wig installer, Kylie Jenner’s stylist in Canada, and has trained with some of the best hairstylists in the world, from Italy to Moldova. “I’ve been back to Russia twice a year since 2016, except during the Covid-19 pandemic,” she adds.
Despite her already impressive accomplishments, she is far from satisfied. Her ultimate goal is to elevate the hairstyling profession, particularly in her home country of South Africa. “I entered the World Championship in 2018 in Russia, the only hairstylist representing the continent of Africa,” she shares with pride. Her efforts paid off when, in November 2023, she took a South African team of 10 stylists to the World
Championship in Russia, where they achieved 1st place in the Avant Garde category and received the award for the most progress made by a country.
Her dedication to the craft is further evidenced by her collection of 47 diplomas, awards, accolades, and medals. In 2023/2024, she was named the official hairstylist for Miss South Africa, a role that further underscores her expertise and influence in the industry.
The most profound secret in hairstyling, according to this master stylist, is simple but powerful: “Keep educating yourself!” She emphasizes that the world of hairstyling is constantly evolving, with new trends, tools, and techniques emerging regularly. To stay ahead of the curve and continue to push the boundaries of creativity, ongoing education is essential. “No matter how skilled you become, there’s always something new to learn,” she advises.
As for products, she believes that skill should always come before the tools you use. “There are no products that I can’t do without,” she states. “USE YOUR SKILL.” While she certainly uses high-quality products, she emphasizes that it’s the stylist’s expertise and artistry that truly make a difference in the final result.
“My ultimate goal is to have a university for hair in South Africa, elevating our skill in our country.” By establishing an educational institution, she hopes to create a legacy that will help future generations of South African hairstylists achieve their dreams and elevate the local industry to international recognition.

In this series of mixed-media figurative paintings, the Lagos-based artist moves between the idea of consciousness and unconsciousness, exploring the liminal qualities of memory and space, dreaming and waking. Rooted in the familiar context of domestic life, the paintings expand into emotional and imaginative realms, exploring how these transient moments shape perceptions. The artist’s debut solo exhibition, These Four Walls has its roots in a series of works Ojo completed at Southern Guild’s GUILD Residency in Cape Town earlier this year.
Ojo’s paintings exude a quiet and restrained elegance. Figures – still and solitary – lie recumbent over furniture or occupy themselves in the rituals of daily life: reading a book, washing the dishes, ironing clothes or scrolling on their phones.
Methodically constructed, the paintings accrue their depth from the artist’s sensitive approach to his materials: thin films of paint hover over areas, the fine graphite linework just visible beneath.
Doorways, window frames and tiled floors provide the coordinates for these intimate tableaux, governed by an internal framework of methodically drawn volumes. Point, line and plane extrude into forms whose structure holds firm even as their edges disintegrate, seep and drip. Embracing a more delicate and varied approach, Ojo pushes beyond the border of spatial logic, making paintings that negotiate realities both concrete and
dreamlike figures emerge and dissolve with fluidity, reflecting a dynamic interplay within the compositions.
“For me, the way paint is manipulated through textures, brushstrokes and colour holds its own narrative power,” Ojo says. “These elements create a sense of multiple possibilities unfolding within and beyond the canvas, capturing moments that feel suspended in time.” The medium of paint becomes a tool to explore the fluidity of memory, space and consciousness. The domestic interior, with its orderly layout of interleading rooms and instantly recognisable taxonomy of urban life – bookshelf, potted plant, draped chair – unravels into a zone of becoming and unbecoming.
Since he began painting during the COVID-19 lockdown four years ago, Ojo has found significance in representations of repose, drawing inspiration from conversations, experiences and canonical works by historical artists. He is interested in the idea of rest and introspection, particularly as a respite from the chaos and intensity of everyday life in Lagos. The act of painting and the scenes he depicts are an antidote to “the need to constantly be on your toes and on guard trying to exist under harsh conditions”.

There’s a certain weight that comes with the word “want,” especially when it relates to something as luxurious and iconic as a Jaguar. For most of my life, I never considered myself a “sports car” person. I dream of a Jaguar SUV, big enough for everything and everyone, with enough presence to say, “I’ve got it together.” The idea of a flashy two-door never really appealed to me—until the day I laid eyes on the Jaguar F-Pace.
I had no idea that my true connection with Jaguar would come in the form of something far less practical: the F-Type.
I didn’t know if I could make any sense of my feelings. But this experience demanded to be shared, a reminder that sometimes the things you never thought you’d love can change you forever.
I wasn’t particularly eager to get behind the wheel of a sports car. A one-day test drive was fine, but I wasn’t expecting a life-changing experience. That is, until I held the key to the Jaguar F-Type in my hand. As I unlocked it, something strange happened. My hands began to shake. I could blame it on too much coffee, but deep down, I knew I was about to step into something... different.
The moment I pressed the button to start the engine, I felt it—a vibration in my chest that matched the pounding in my heart. The roar of that V8 engine was more than just sound; it was a symphony of power, and it made me feel something I couldn’t describe. The tears came unexpectedly, tracing my cheek, not from sadness, but from an overwhelming, visceral reaction to the car. That sound. It was like a force of nature. And that was only the beginning.
This wasn’t just a car. This was a reminder that not all machines are built to blend in. As the engine roared to life, I felt the kind of connection that most people only experience in stories or movies. The V8 Jaguar was my first real taste of something visceral, something raw. I couldn’t have cared less about keeping under the speed limit, I did not floor it; the thrill was in just being in the car.
I remember a moment where a BMW M5 tried to show off, overtaking me aggressively. It should’ve annoyed me, but instead, I felt pity. The M5, like so many other cars, was a show-off. The F-Type? It didn’t need to prove anything. It was the proof.
I sent a video of the F-Type starting to my husband, expecting him to be indifferent. He replied with a simple, “cool.” It wasn’t his thing, but for me, that moment symbolized everything. It was my thing. I was in love.
Here’s the thing: my partner has never cared much for cars. He’s the type who views a car purely as a tool—get from point A to point B, no fuss. But for the first time ever, he got it! When he got behind the wheel he was laughing, smiling, feeling something he never thought he would. We weren’t just driving; we were experiencing. The F-Type brought us together, in a way no other car ever could.
As we cruised together, thrilled at the sound of the exhaust and the joy of simply being in a car that felt alive, it became clear: this wasn’t just any car. This was a car that made memories. This car is going to be car that collectors fight over owning in the future.

I’ve cried in many cars. Heck, I’ve cried in some good cars. I am a car addict. But nothing compares to crying in a Jaguar F-Type 75 Coupé. This wasn’t just a car—it was a masterpiece. Jaguar didn’t build another techinfused, screen-heavy, gadget-packed iPad on wheels. They built a machine that’s designed to last. A car with soul. A car that makes you feel something, deep down, like you’ve connected with history itself.
The interior was simple, not overrun with the latest tech fads. The moment I sat in it, I felt a deep sense of timelessness. This was a car that would age gracefully, not become outdated in a few years. It wasn’t made to be replaced; it was made to be cherished.
This wasn’t about the latest screen or the sharpest reverse camera. It was about the drive. The way a car feels. And the F-Type felt like something rare. This is an art investment.
Saying goodbye to the F-Type wasn’t easy. It wasn’t about returning to my own car—it was about knowing I’d never experience another first with a V8 like this again. No other car would
give me the same feeling, the same emotional pull. And I knew that. But the F-Type wasn’t just about me. It was about the memories we made—my partner and I, together, driving for the joy of it, for the feeling of being alive.
Jaguar South Africa allowed me to experience something that not everyone will ever understand. They’ve created a car that will one day be a classic, and I was lucky enough to be a part of its history.
So here I am, crying over a car. Crying over a Jaguar. But this isn’t a sad cry. It’s a cry of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to experience something that changed me, something that will forever be a part of who I am.
Jaguar, you’ve given me more than just a car. You’ve given me a memory. A first. A moment in time that I’ll never forget.
And one day, I’ll own an F-Type. I don’t know when, but I know that I will. Because this car isn’t just a car. It’s a feeling. A once-in-alifetime experience that you never forget.
Jaguar, you are special.

Dar Kawa, is the oldest house in Marrakech. Owned by Belgian designer Valérie Barkowski, this serene 17th-century house blends minimalist interiors with historical charm. This boutique hideaway is a quiet retreat amidst the bustling Medina, featuring only four chic rooms. The fabulous courtyard is a stylish oasis, and the rooftop terrace is perfect for sunset dining. Chef Saida, prepares fresh, seasonal meals on request, focusing on Moroccan and Mediterranean flavours.
Where glamour effortlessly blends with fashion, Royal Mansour is the epitome of luxury in Marrakech. Owned by the King of Morocco, this hotel is a true masterpiece, where no detail has been overlooked. The 53 private riads, each exquisitely designed, are scattered throughout a medina-style layout, creating an exclusive, almost mystical experience. Private butlers, discreetly attentive, seem to appear from nowhere, adding to the hotel’s magical atmosphere. The design evokes the romance of Aladdin or The Arabian Nights, with lantern-lit courtyards, hidden pathways, and fragrant gardens that transport you into a magical world.

A French fairytale in the heart of the Marrakech Medina, Riad Tarabel is one of my favourite riads in one of the best locations. This boutique riad has ten beautiful rooms and suites, blending French elegance with Moroccan craftsmanship, resulting in a chateau-chic vibe. The rooftop terrace boasts far-reaching views across the city, whilst the pool is a peaceful spot in the hotel’s garden. The Moroccan/French fusion food is served in a charming courtyard setting. Meanwhile, hidden behind a secret mirror is the best spa in the Medina, Les Bains de Tarabel. The hammam is spacious, the treatment beds wide and heated, and the therapists are highly trained and experienced.
I first discovered Dar Zemora more than twenty years ago, when it opened in 2003, and it’s still one of the best boutique hotels in the Palmeraie of Marrakech. Many of the staff have been here since its opening. This English-owned rose-filled luxury retreat blends traditional Moroccan design and the best of British hospitality. With lush gardens, a refreshing pool, and six individually styled rooms, this ‘Dar’ or house has a private hammam and massage room for a relaxing experience. The restaurant serves delicious Moroccan and Mediterranean food with many ingredients from the hotel’s garden.
Known for her stylish, handmade home textiles that blend Moroccan tradition with contemporary aesthetics. Since 2018, her store in the heart of Marrakech’s medina has been home to her 100% handmade creations. In this serene, minimalist space, soft grey tones highlight the pure white of cotton and terrycloth with her refined linen dressing beds and tables. Embroidered cushions, bathrobes, and slippers complete the scene.
One-of-a-kind treasures like necklaces, slippers, and bags, exclusive to the VB Store, await your discovery, each crafted with care and love.

MOROCCO IS A HYMN TO LIGHT, A HYMN TO COLORS, AND A HYMN TO LIVING TOGETHER THAT LEAVES AN IMPRINT IN OUR MEMORIES FOREVER.
— Mehdi Qotbi, artist
People come to Morocco in search of a profound experience, be it a country, a kingdom, or a question. It captivates like a dervish dance, its authenticity endless and miraculous. Artists have drawn inspiration from Morocco, the "Kingdom of Light," since Delacroix's visit. This book, Morocco, Kingdom of Light, takes readers on a journey through this enchanting land, with Oliver Pilcher's exclusive imagery showcasing its beauty and joyous spirit. Moroccan writer and musician Ariel Wizman provides a rich introduction, celebrating the culture, history, and splendor of Morocco's streets, medinas, and palaces.
Marrakech overflows with culture and has been inspiring visitors for decades. From Yves Saint Laurent to Talitha Getty, Winston Churchill to Mick Jagger, Marrakech has attracted great icons inspired by its eternal spirit as well as its sweet, beautiful life. Yves Saint Laurent’s intimate relationship to this city lead to the opening of a museum dedicated to his legendary work.
The annual Marrakech International Film Festival draws a prominent crowd. Museums abound, exhibiting Moroccan arts, photography, carpets, and the Andalusian design aesthetic that permeates the city’s architecture. La Mamounia hotel, opened in 1923, offers a storied history, which includes hosting guests such as Winston Churchill. Vanessa Branson’s El Fenn is a collection of traditional riads that form a stunning boutique hotel. There are countless ways to be immersed in the culture of Marrakech, but perhaps the best place to start is with a simple glass of mint tea.
Travelers are born at the confluence between homeland and host countries. They embody the Promethean dream of creation by fusion. Pierre Montale is one of those people. This tireless traveller had a date with destiny 20 years ago in the far reaches of the Kingdom of Arabia. Introduced to confidential and millennia olfactory materials directly through the Royal family, he puts his suitcases down to go on an inward journey, fluctuation between learning process and pure marvel.
Exquisite raw materials are the secret to wonderful perfumes. That is why Montale has always used high quality natural materials to compose its olfactory creations in the highest possible concentration. Intensity and exceptional lasting: the Montale Parfums signature.

Nestled in the heart of South Africa’s famed Stellenbosch Wine Route lies the vineyards of Simonsig, with a history as rich and effervescent as the Cap Classique it produces. Simonsig Family Vineyards is not only a custodian of South Africa’s viticultural heritage but is recognised as the pioneer of Cap Classique.
Simonsig released their first wine in 1968 – Simonsig Steen (Chenin Blanc). It was a trip to the Champagne region in France that ignited Simonsig’s pioneering move, becoming South Africa’s very first producer of traditional method bottlefermented sparkling wine with the release of the beloved Kaapse Vonkel in 1971.
From the original Kaapse Vonkel to the Cuvée Royale, to the more recent Satin Nectars, this legacy of timeless elegance and craftsmanship continues with third-generation cellar master Michael Malan.
Kaapse Vonkel Satin Nectar is a lively Demi-sec Cap Classique with a light lemon colour and a delicate, fine-lasting mousse. The perfect summer treat, and with its beautiful bottles, a perfect gift.
If, as in the Rudyard Kipling poem with its memorable verse, “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you.”
We’ll spare you the trauma of having to recite it to the class, but we think the inspiration for this 2019 release from the French niche house is reason enough to read this work again.
And the scent created by Anne-Sophie Behaghel? The fresh and spicy intro is on the quiet side and leads the way to the honeyed fruitiness of fig partnered with the powdery spice of cinnamon. Both with just the right amount of sweetness. There’s creamy sandalwood from Mysore, India, in the latter stages of the fragrance’s progression, with sensual muskiness from the synthetic Cashmeran.
Unlike the poem, with its message of forbearance and stoicism, this perfume is pleasure itself.
FYI: If you know your Cognac, you’ll know this family-owned house that was founded in 1270. Its foray into fragrance is much more recent (2007). Stockists: Metropolitain Cosmetics.
Tucked away behind the rose-colored walls of the Marrakech medina, El Fenn is an oasis for modern travelers seeking abundance in all its forms. With a fusion of the finest modern amenities and a deep connection to place, El Fenn provides the ideal setting for guests to completely immerse in the rich, vibranat culture of Marrakech while being inspired at every turn.
Featuring 42 rooms, three swimming pools, an authentic spa, a curated boutique, as well as a 14,000 square foot rooftop terrace with a restaurant and cocktail bar, spread out across 13 interconnected riads, one never has to leave the property to feel the pulse of Marrakech. Its central location, however, will make it hard not to – with so many of the Red City‘s best experiences just steps away from the property.
El Fenn offers guests a staggering two acres to call their home-away-from-home in the heart of Marrakech. This latest evolution also sees El Fenn connect with its Annex down the road, bringing the entire hotel under one roof.
The stunning 14,000 square foot roof terrace truly sets El Fenn apart from any other guest residence in Morocco. With the best views in town, it overlooks quintessential Marrakech medina vignettes, with landmarks from the Koutoubia Mosque to the Atlas Mountains within view. Home to a heated lap pool, the rooftop provides the most scenic setting for a delicious breakfast, long languorous meals, or a sunset cocktail among the olive trees and twinkling lanterns.
El Fenn melds boutique hotel luxury with the heritage of traditional courtyard houses, showcasing a vivid visual language of colonnaded balconies, sun-dappled patios, and lantern-lit trails.
El Fenn is a design leader, attracting global pilgrims with its unique blend of timeless elegance and local tradition. The magic lies in the considered alchemy of color, lighting, art, textiles, stained glass, old and new, artisanal heritage, flora and fauna.
The hotel is ever-evolving, with rooms featuring bold colors, mid-century furniture, and traditional elements like hand-carved cedar wood and tadelakt plaster. Guests can expect surprises such as enormous bathtubs, outdoor showers, and curated artworks from Vanessa Branson and Madeline Weinrib’s private collections. El Fenn also boasts one of Morocco’s finest contemporary art collections, featuring works by renowned artists like William Kentridge and Sir Antony Gormley.
El Fenn’s highly regarded, innovative independent retail space offers a curation of in-house products alongside the best work by young, local Moroccan designers who use age-old artisanal techniques to create fresh and modern pieces. Committed to celebrating the creative energy that has infused Marrakech over the past few decades, the shop offers a compelling selection of fashion and interiors that is modern and timeless at once, cementing its reputation as one of the leading fashion and design stores on the continent.
In store, guests find exemplary work from some of the best young African fashion designers, with contemporary garments including kaftans as well as vintage fashion, aside cushions, throws and ceramics, jewelry, and books about style and design. The conceptual retail space also stocks international designers whose products have their heart in artisanal techniques, though it primarily remains an impressive statement of current interiors and fashion in Morocco.
El Fenn has been committed to supporting Morocco’s local economy, community and environment from its inception. The property’s development and operation today is a testament to the local artisans who helped bring the vision to life and painstakingly restored every inch of the 13 traditional Moroccan riads to create what guests can enjoy today. From the zellige-tiled colonnades and bright tadelakt lime plaster walls, to the stitched leather floors and organic bath products, every inch of the property is a celebration of Moroccan craftsmanship, design, and attention to detail.
However, the property would be nothing without its outstanding staff. The hotel is its people. More than a hundred staff work inside the building, alongside a huge network of partners outside the walls. “We think of El Fenn as a family. Some people have been in it since the start, others have been newly welcomed, but all are at the heart of our hotel,” says Karim Irrgang, Hotel Manager of El Fenn.
What started as 6 bedrooms in 2004 has grown to 42 today, accompanying an exceptional team and an ethos that remains true to El Fenn’s origins. El Fenn remains a celebration of the people, craft, culture, and compelling visuals of Marrakech.
El Fenn opened its doors in 2004 and is proud to be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024. The property is open year-round with room rates starting from $366 USD per night. The El Fenn restaurant is open to all visitors, with open hours from 12:30pm – 11pm.

When you think of a Range Rover, you think of a vehicle that stands out without trying too hard—a blend of luxury, heritage, and serious capability. The new Range Rover Sport captures all of that perfectly. It’s sleek, stylish, and packed with features that remind you why this brand has become an icon.
At first glance, the Range Rover Sport immediately grabs your attention. It’s bold yet refined, with clean lines and a sporty, low stance that gives it a confident presence on the road. The front end is sharp and modern, featuring slim LED headlights and a grille design that strikes the perfect balance between classy and aggressive.
One of the standout details is the flush door handles, which sit flush with the body when not in use, giving the car an ultra-smooth look. The 22-inch alloy wheels on the test model added to its dynamic feel, showing that this SUV isn’t just about luxury—it’s built to impress.
Step inside, and you’re greeted with an interior that feels more like a highend lounge than a car. Everything is finished in premium materials, from soft leather seats to the brushed metal accents on the dash. The seats are both heated and ventilated, with massage functions that make even long drives feel like a spa session.
The digital displays—a large touchscreen in the centre and a fully digital driver’s display—are sharp and responsive, putting all the car’s features at your fingertips. Wireless charging, a top-notch Meridian sound system, and ambient lighting that you can customize to your mood are just some of the tech features that make the cabin feel futuristic but user-friendly.
There’s also loads of space, both in the front and back. Whether you’re heading to a meeting or packing up for a weekend getaway, the Range Rover Sport is built to keep you comfortable.
On the road, the Range Rover Sport delivers exactly what you’d expect: effortless performance. The powerful engine options—including a V8 for those who want serious muscle or a plug-in hybrid for a more eco-friendly choice—make this SUV feel quick and responsive.
What really stands out, though, is how smooth it is. The air suspension soaks up bumps like they’re not even there, and the cabin stays whisper-quiet even at highway speeds. Whether you’re cruising through the city or tackling a winding mountain road, the Range Rover Sport feels planted and in control.
Off-road capability? Of course—it’s a Range Rover, after all. With advanced terrain management systems, the Sport can handle mud, sand, and steep climbs without breaking a sweat. But let’s be honest—this car is more likely to be seen at the valet than in the bush, and it looks fantastic wherever you take it.
The Range Rover Sport isn’t just a pretty face—it’s practical, too. The rear seats fold down easily, giving you loads of cargo space for bikes, suitcases, or whatever you need to haul. Plus, the split-folding tailgate makes loading and unloading a breeze.
It’s also packed with safety features, like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera that makes parking in tight spots stress-free.
The Range Rover Sport is the perfect blend of luxury, performance, and practicality. It feels just as at home pulling up to a red carpet event as it does on a road trip or school run. Everything about this car, from the way it looks to the way it drives, screams premium quality without being over the top.
If you’re looking for an SUV that delivers comfort, style, and a touch of adventure, the Range Rover Sport ticks all the boxes. It’s more than just a car—it’s a lifestyle.

Want pepper? Lots of it? Come and get it.
In the short time they have been in the fragrance biz since 2020, the French niche brand has impressed us with their simplicity as the ultimate sophistication approach. Especially welcome in niche-dom where elaborate stories with price tags to match often take precedence. One of their launch perfumes, Un Poivre (French for “a pepper”) gets to the point with
its combo of black pepper and pink pepper at the fore. Caraway and ginger add to the spice blend. Violet leaf brings an element of fresh and airy greenery to the proceedings, settling with woody accents of vetiver and amyris.
As with several of the other releases we’ve tried from the brand (for example, Une Pistache EDP and Une Rose EDP), this Anne-Sophie Behaghel creation is distinctive stuff that’s made even more appealing with its reasonable price.
Stockists: Metropolitain Cosmetics.
Who hasn’t helped themselves to Molton Brown products when staying at the right kind of hotel? But the British brand doesn’t only just produce top-notch amenity, bath and body products; their fragrance offering is equally impressive.
This 2019 Carla Chabert creation sets out with a spicy sprinkle of cardamom, while notes of fig leaf and bergamot add to the freshness. It’s not long before the sea notes come through. Together with the notes of cypress and cedarwood, they create the effect of a salty and aromatic breeze on skin that’s emphasised with a leather accord in the closing stages of the scent.
Energising and uplifting, it has more than enough character to stand out in the well-worn aquatics genre. It’s also available in an EDT concentration, with a slightly different note emphasis.
Stockists: Selected Skins, Edgars, Woolworths and Arc Stores.
It all started in 2008 with 1 Million EDT. To call this fragrance from the French designer brand a phenomenon would be an understatement. We’ve lost count of all the flankers and special editions since then. Suffice to say, it’s in the double digits.
After 2023’s 1 Million Golden Oud Parfum Intense, where could the range go next? So we asked perfumer Christophe Raynaud, co-creator of the original and most of the subsequent versions, for his insights and this is what he had to say:
“Rabanne Million Gold introduces a bold new sensory experience while preserving the original’s olfactive DNA of 1 Million. Million Gold seeks to replicate its addictive
success by enhancing the woody signature with the highest quality and most noble wood essences.”
So where the OG was big on the spice, this 2024 iteration takes more of a woody approach (after the initial freshness of mandarin) with a blend of cedarwood and particularly sandalwood.
If you’re one of those snobs who always thought 1 Million was a bit juvenile, think again. This is more sophisticated and grownup stuff.
Stockists: Selected Woolworths, Edgars, Arc Stores and Truworths.
First, how to pronounce the name of this Spanish brand: lo-weh-vay.
You know a company takes perfume seriously when it has an in-house perfumer of Núria Cruelles Borrull’s calibre. We wouldn’t expect anything less from the Madrid-based house.
If you catch us in reverential mode, it’s because we’re under the influence of this 2023 release. In fact, several releases from the Aire collection have that effect on us.
As the name implies, there’s an element of freshness and purity, and we certainly get that via the notes of pear, peony and lily-of-thevalley, with rhubarb keeping it on the ride side of sweetness. Labdanum gives the composition ambery depth, without compromising the overall airiness.
As we have your attention, please do try the 2020 release Loewe Paula’s Ibiza EDP. You can thank us later.
Stockists: Selected Arc Stores.
In the heart of Stellenbosch, where the Simonsberg mountains cradle the land, Tokara Wine Estate stands as a paragon of craftsmanship and elegance. This year, as Tokara celebrates 25 years of excellence, it proudly showcases the Tokara XO Potstill Brandy—a spirit that embodies the estate’s ethos of artistry and tradition.
Founded in 1999 by the visionary duo GT and Anne-Marie Ferreira, Tokara has blossomed into a symbol of South African luxury and sophistication. Nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountains, Tokara is much more than a vineyard—it is a testament to the harmonious blend of nature, craftsmanship, and a pioneering spirit. Known for its world-class wines and award-winning olive oils, Tokara’s legacy also reflects a deep-rooted commitment to family, community, and innovation. Three generations have shaped its enduring success, enriching Stellenbosch through sustainable practices and local initiatives.
The original from 2012, Versace Eros EDT, became one of the loveit-or-hate-it fragrances of the last decade. Despite its popularity, the Italian fashion brand gets our respect for resisting the urge to release numerous flankers and limited editions.
As you can tell from the bottle, the 2024 addition to the range is bright and bold stuff. Forget what we’ve said previously about not judging a scent by its opening, because this one is so darn good.
Sunny notes of lemon, bergamot and blood orange lead the citrus-fresh way, with a hint of fruitiness from blackcurrant. For a freshie, this has more staying power than most, thanks to the earthiness of oakmoss and patchouli in the drydown.
Oh, and big thumbs up to Versace on their choice of Channing Tatum as the face (and body) of the advertising campaign.
Stockists: Selected Woolworths, Edgars, Arc Stores and Truworths.
Purists were in for a shock in 2017 when the 1970s classic Givenchy Gentleman EDT was relaunched as Gentleman Givenchy EDT for a new generation.
Please note the subtle difference in the name. Confusing, isn’t it? Givenchy isn’t the first and won’t be the last to put a modern spin on one of their classics.
While the first interpretation of Gentleman Givenchy didn’t blow us away, then came the flankers and, what do you know, the Gentleman Givenchy range, with its various iris interpretations, must be one of the most rewarding around.
After the 2022 version, the whisky-licious Gentleman Givenchy Reserve Privée EDP, we were wondering where the collection would take us next. Had it run its course? Would it become a case of diminishing returns, as is so often the case in designer-land?
In 2023, Gentleman Society EDP answered our questions and assured us we had nothing to worry about with its combo of clary sage, narcissus, vetiver and sandalwood notes.
It’s 2024 follow-up, Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum Extrême, is seriously good stuff. We can’t get enough of the earthiness of orris concrete (the ingredient produced from the rhizomes of iris pallida), vetiver and patchouli paired with the richness of coffee extract and creaminess of vanilla and sandalwood. The narcissus absolute adds an intriguing green floral dimension.
Bravo to perfumer Karine Dubreuil-Sereni for this multi-faceted creation that can be worn to the office with ease and has after-hours appeal in abundance!
The black and silver bottle is très sexy and clearly meant to be displayed and admired. Just not in the bathroom. We feel the need to remind you that those fluctuating temperatures are not kind to the perfumes you’ve spent your hardearned cash on.
Stockists: Selected Dis-Chem, Edgars, Woolworths and Arc Stores
“One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.”
Gianni Versace turned the runway into an art gallery. He famously said, “One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.”. His most famous motif, Medusa, symbolizes irresistible allure and power, perfectly embodying the bold Versace spirit. Baroque influences—ornamental swirls, gold accents, and opulence—add layers of drama, inspired by Renaissance art and his Italian roots. Classical Greco-Roman sculptures and mosaics found their way into his collections, grounding them in timeless elegance.
Versace Eros Pour Femme is a tribute to modern femininity, inspired by the mythological god of love, Eros. This floral woody musk fragrance captures the essence of a confident, seductive woman who commands attention with her presence. The opening notes of Sicilian lemon, Calabrian bergamot, and pomegranate deliver a bright, citrusy freshness, while the heart blooms with jasmine and peony for a romantic, floral allure. The base, with its warm sandalwood and musky ambrox, leaves an irresistible, lingering trail of sophistication and sensuality.

Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wineproducing farm and the cornerstone of the historic Constantia Valley.
Founded in 1685 in the scenic Cape Peninsula, the iconic Groot Constantia Manor House stands proudly amidst vineyards with breathtaking views of False Bay.
Here, the combination of different climatic factors creates a terroir that produces an elegant and complex Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The cool climate, access to water, and healthy granite soil forge the final product, resulting in an intensity on the palate that can uniquely be identified as the Constantia Region.
Groot Constantia’s terroir greatly enhances the berries’ flavour and colour, setting the stage for the winemaker and team to create a wine that reflects its origin. The favourable conditions are exploited through well-considered vineyard practices, leading up to deciding on the optimal picking date. These are refined skills that come from a profound connection to the land.
At the core of Groot Constantia are its people, whose dedication and deep understanding of the land are unparalleled.
In the cellar, the winemaker develops the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay layer by layer with intuition and finesse. The results arewell-balanced wines with excellent ageability in every bottle.
Groot Constantia’s wines are celebrated globally for their exceptional quality. The 2013 Chardonnay and 2019 Sauvignon Blanc vintages were named the best in the world at the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC).
Jean Naudé, CEO of Groot Constantia, emphasises that the recognition of these vintages underscores the resilience of their philosophy: quality is at the heart of Groot Constantia’s success—even during the most challenging times. Working against the logic of purity, Eugene Hön’s Curious Entanglements are decompositions: morphing memory, subverting and stuttering forms, and staying with the trouble. The vessels do not arrive in the world fully formed, unblemished. They are of the earth, marked by the shrapnel of their miraculous birth. Their bodies are crusted with debris of the clay womb, like comets spat out of the earth’s core. These are vessels for the end of the world, made in gestures of repair, survival, and interspecies collaboration.
Hön’s approach is multimodal. Intricate drawings of mycelium in ballpoint pen are digitally augmented with the assistance of graphic designer Dominic Hobbs, fudging, repeating, and contaminating fractal iterations which are then printed onto vessels which are themselves distortions of the ceramic, caked with dried fragments of discarded slip cast bodies. In cyborg-like collaborations, using computer-aided design and 3D technology, the artist generates innumerable phantom memories from these entangled two- and three-dimensional structures, transfers bleed into the textures of the crinkled shards or the
smooth whiteness of exposed bone China. Octopus tentacles and fern fractals unfurl, mushroom clouds balloon, molten lava oozes, and sea slug softness laps up against scorched earth and grazing tar. Everything congeals to form compost, fragile rhizomatic iterations beyond simile.
Drawing on the multispecies ethnography of anthropologist Anna Tsing and the fungal studies of biologist Merlin Sheldrake, Hön’s work forms delicate assemblages that mimic the relationships that are threatened and created in epoch of climate catastrophe.
Fungal worlds emerge in the artist’s work as a radical form of survival through collaboration and contamination. The fungal instinct for assemblage is at the heart of its resilience -fungus thrives in disturbed forests and in the violent microcosmos; it feeds on radioactive graphite at Chernobyl. The objects that populate Curious Entanglements remain unclosed, language-less, as muddled and muddied as our world, modelling in miniature the endlessly complex weave of vulnerable relationships through which we endure.

Born in Durban in 1952, Carol Hayward Fell is an award-winning ceramic artist renowned for her whimsical and quirky ceramic horse sculptures. A qualified art teacher, she also teaches drawing and painting to adults in Durban North. Each ceramic work is entirely handmade by her, employing stoneware and porcelain clay, coloured slips and oxides. She works spontaneously, each horse evolving as she sees the shape and character develop; the ultimate joy being to decide on the detailed patterning. At 72 years of age, she still works long hours daily 6 days a week, loving every minute of it.
Carol began making horses in 2006 and horses have now become her total focus and passion. Since Covid,
she reinvented her approach towards her art, to make smaller, more affordable and easily transportable horse sculptures. These have increasingly being appreciated and collected by equestrians throughout SA.
Reflecting her sense of humour, some horses have patterns and animals, birds, etc on them, creating a whimsical relationship. Lately her love of intricate patterns has predominated utilizing many ceramic techniques with line, texture and colour. Some even have reclining nudes sprawled across them; she loves surprising the viewer with the playful and the unexpected.

Mini watches occupy a special place in Cartier’s watchmaking repertoire, shining with elegance and an irresistible presence. Some, like the mini Panthère de Cartier watches, are real stars in their own right, revisiting the Maison’s great classics on a tiny scale. Cartier plays with proportion,
experimenting between moderation and excess. The day of oversize watches might be over.
These mini’s have maxi appeal, as it is unisex and can be stacked with other pieces of jewellery. We have seen the the mini-milization of cars, bags, houses, but Cartier brings us minis with maximum appeal.
