Light is what makes your photograph- literally

Photography is Greek for “writing with light”

Different lighting scenarios will create different looks in your images

Produced by the sun

Most flexible

Best of all FREE

Can be adjusted by the use of modifiers


Natural Light ●

Look for light quality

Soft diffused light is good for portraits

Harsh light can be dramatic

Backlighting

Overcast gives a softbox effect

The hour right around sunset when the light will be strong, but beautiful.

Modifiers ●

Diffusers ●

Reflectors ●

Sheer curtains, glass, tree branches; anything that will soften the light Fills in shadows

Flash ●

SPARINGLY

On camera flash will flatten your subject.

When possible, bounce the flash off of something


Tips ●

Turn your subject to avoid light in their eyes

Move yourself if you can't move the subject

Look for thngs you can use as reflectors- light surfaces, mirrors, water, etc Same with diffusers Pay attention to time of day/sun position- it makes a difference
