ADDIE ANTHIS With her captivating personality, inspiring talents, strong motivation and compassion for others, Super Senior Addie Anthis has been a role model and notable member of the Spartan community for the past four years.

Anthis has been integral to several arts programs, including the visual arts department and the dance team.

“Addie has been involved in Art and Art Club since her freshman year. She loves art and works so hard to do a good job- even during this dif�cult time,” said art teacher Barbara Tinh, who nominated Anthis.

Anthis’ talent has not gone unnoticed, as she has been featured in exhibits like the Dixie Classic Fair and the Spring Art Extravaganza. “Addie’s drawing of her grandfather, Papa, received the People’s Choice Award as well as the Facebook Award in the Artizens Art Competition her sophomore year,” said Mrs. Trinh.

Despite this year’s challenges, Anthis has persevered and found creative ways to express her feelings. This year she focused on creating abstract art to symbolize her emotional journey during the pandemic.

“I love that she chose to use her art as a way to express

herself during such a challenging time,” said Mrs. Trinh.

Anthis also brings her passion and drive to other areas of her life, notably dance team. She was a captain of the team this year, and was often providing encouragement from the Bob Sapp �eld sidelines.

“Addie has served as an energetic and dedicated captain for MTDT and lightened our attitudes in times of uncertainty due to COVID-19 when a season of dance felt unlikely. Her school pride and enthusiasm towards dance made the season and state championship unforgettable,” said senior and fellow MTDT captain, Anna Chaves.

Friends appreciate Anthis’ compassion and care for those around her. “In 10 years I can see Addie being successful and inspiring all of those around her. She has an impact on everyone she meets and will be doing something she loves and helping others along the way,” said close friend, West Forsyth senior Caylyn Schell.

Next fall, Anthis will be attending Appalachian State University. Although she is currently undecided about her major, she is con�dent that in the future she will be, in her words, “doing something I love.”

The name of Super Senior Josiah Banks is well-known throughout Sparta due to his involvement in men’s basketball and football. His most recent accomplishment was helping lead the school to its �rst-ever state football championship win.

Head football coach Tiesuan Brown described the Spartan defense captain as a “leader.”

As a linebacker, Banks made key plays in the games against Dudley and Cleveland High Schools and was awarded the title of conference defensive player of the year.

Banks has also been integral to the men’s basketball team. He quali�ed for the Piedmont Triad all-conference team. During his junior year, the basketball team was able to make a deep run into the playoffs.

Fellow Super Senior, teammate and good friend Daniel Fulp has enjoyed his years on the basketball team with Banks.

“My favorite memory with Josiah is de�nitely Senior night during basketball season where he had the play and pass of the game to me. He went with a behind-the-back crossover and a no-look pass to me and the few fans we had in attendance went crazy,” said Fulp.

Banks is also known for his outgoing personality. He feels that he was nominated for his optimism and outlook.

“I think I’m nominated because of the positive interactions I have with people that I meet… I would say that I am outgoing and understanding,” he said.

Despite remaining busy as a multi-sport student-athlete, Banks maintained a 4.0 GPA, which ultimately resulted in the U.S. Military Academy offering him a scholarship. He plans on studying biology and hopes to become a physician assistant if he does not pursue a career in the NFL. Banks has left a long-lasting legacy both on and off the �eld.

“At Tabor of course, he helped bring the �rst football state championship home,” said Fulp.

“But individually I think he has set the bar high as to what a student-athlete really looks like.

JOSIAH BANKS

CHARLIE BOYER Super Senior Charlie Boyer is known to his peers, teachers and coaches for his strong school spirit and infectious personality.

His impressive athletic and academic accomplishments at Sparta are due to his strong work ethic and determination.

Boyer has been involved in baseball and swimming all four years of high school. He is a key member in leading both teams for the underclassmen.

Since freshman year, he has been a valuable player and a motivational presence that has helped lead both teams to victory.

During his time on the swim team, he has made a great impact in connecting the team and building strong relationships. Head swim coach Mr. Jamie Grimstead nominated Boyer for his leadership and, “making practices fun and making sure everyone is engaged.”

Mr. Grimstead also said Boyer is one of the best captains he has ever had, which demonstrates the impact he has had on the Sparta community.

Boyer not only has made great impacts in athletics but his social life as well. He is loved by many for his ability to brighten anyone’s mood and always has a positive attitude. Fellow senior Ben Gemmel says that some of his favorite memories with Boyer are “him leading the student section at football games with his loud mouth.”

The strong work ethic and determination Boyer has had in high school are re�ected in his academics, leading him to continue his education next year at his dream school.

Boyer plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall and study sports management. In 10 years he sees himself, “graduated from school and working a job that I am passionate about.”

Boyer is excited for his next four years but he will miss being a Spartan, participating in athletics and all the teachers and coaches who have made his high school years so memorable.

He will also cherish the many valuable memories he has made with friends.

“One of my favorite memories at Mount Tabor is the parking lot on Fridays after school,” he said.

DOUGLAS BROGDEN Over the past four years, Super Senior Douglas Brogdon has left an indelible mark on Sparta. He was nominated due to his performance in the arts, his academic achievements and awards outside of school.

School counselor Ms. Corey Daniel nominated Brogdon. “He deserves to be nominated because he is the most optimistic student I have, he is kind, enjoys pushing himself academically and I feel that Mount Tabor has been lucky to be a part of Douglas’ educational history,” she said.

Teachers and peers alike all respond positively to the mention of Brogdons’ name and describe him as a friendly person and motivated student.

include the Spartan Strong Superlative in the Arts as well the AWED Top Project Award.

“I saw him put hours and hours into his AWED project and commit his life to the arts, he was more deserving than anybody I have seen,” says Brogdons’s close friend Senior Ashton McRae. Brogdon is also very involved in band, “If I had to sum up all of my years in the band in one word it would be ‘awesome’.

The people are very outgoing and helpful, I would honestly call them my family. I am very appreciative of these people, they helped me become better, make new experiences and overall �nd out more about myself,” said Brogdon.

Outside of school, Brogdon is pursuing his Boy Scouts’ Eagle Scout Award, where

he is working diligently to complete a community service project. Once he �nishes these �nal steps, he will meet with the Eagle Scout Board Members to �nalize his ranking.

Next year, Brogdon will be attending Forsyth Tech to study �lm and advertising.

He plans to become a digital media specialist and help small companies advertise their name or brands.

Brogdon’s fun loving personality is what makes him stand out from the class of 2021. In addition, his academics, performance in the arts and achievements outside of school has made him an important member of the Spartan community.

“He is always having a good time,” McRae said.

ADDISON CAUSEY

Super Senior Addison Causey is known not only for her multiple academic and athletic accomplishments but also for her bubbly personality. Paired with her natural work ethic, she is a well-rounded individual with a bright future ahead.

Causey has always been an extremely talented and versatile athlete. She is a four-year varsity cross country and track and �eld runner and became an important leader as an upperclassmen.

In addition to running nearly year round, Causey has also played for the women’s soccer team for all four years.

Head Coach Mr. Jay Ben�eld nominated her for her friendly demeanor both on and off the �eld.

“Addison is a very bubbly, kind and thoughtful kid. She is very funny, she makes me laugh and she is a very likeable kid,” said Coach Ben�eld..

Causey’s easygoing nature extends into her social life as

well, and she has been described by both friends and coaches as a very genuine person. Fellow Super Senior Abby Grif�n values both the memories they have made together and Causey’s loyalty as a friend.

“Addison is a caring and compassionate friend who is always there for others no matter what. She is extremely hard working and is the most genuine person in everything she does,” said Grif�n.

Causey’s determination is clearly represented in her athletic achievements, but also re�ected in her academics.

Next year, she plans to attend North Carolina State University and hopes to practice as a prosthetist after her undergraduate education.

Although excited for her future, Causey enjoyed her time in high school. “My favorite high school memory was being at the state championship football game when Tabor won or just anytime we did H2O,” she said.

Although Theresa D’Agostino has many qualities that make her a Super Senior, she is known for her positive outlook and passion for life by her peers and teachers. She is also known for her musical talent through her compositions and performances.

D’Agostino was nominated by School Counselor Ms. Corey Daniel for her devotion to music as well as her impact on the community. “She has a huge heart and I feel like her compassion for others, the way she looks at the world as a place of happy wonder and her passion for life can be heard through her music,” said Ms. Daniel.

D’Agostino considers herself as an outgoing introvert who tries her best to be welcoming and friendly to all she encounters. She hopes that she brought as much joy to the community as her friends have brought to her.

“I think Theresa has been a conduit for kindness through everyone she has met. She is someone to talk to when you’re down, and overall she is just a light that brightens any room. She has also shown that the auditory arts have a strong place at Tabor,” said fellow Super Senior David Sieg.

During D’Agostino’s time at Sparta, she has been a large part of the dance team. Her favorite memory from high school was being on WXII news with the dance team after the football team defeated Dudley High School during her junior year.

D’Agostino felt most excited to be a part of the Sparta community when she attended football and basketball games, as a member of the dance team. She loved being a part of such a kind, welcoming and supportive team.

One of the most notable parts of D’Agostino’s life is her passion for composing, producing and performing music. She recently released her debut album on all streaming platforms earlier this year. Since its release, “Peaceful Solitude” has been streamed over 40,000 times.

“I have had a passion for it [music] for as long as I can remember and have known I would want a career in it since I was six. Music has always been my safe place. Whether it’s playing piano, composing or just laying down and listening to music - I have always felt safe, peaceful and comforted,” she said.

D’Agostino will attend Berklee College of Music in the fall and plans to major in Music Composition and Film Score. “All I know for sure is that music will be a part of whatever I am doing 10 years from now.” she said.

As a Spartan, D’Agostino strove to be as welcoming and kind as possible. She impacted the arts department through her gift in music and continues to use her talent to express herself.

D’Agostino hopes all students remember the worth and value that they possess just the way they are. “The most important advice I think I could leave behind is knowing your worth and that your identity is your most prized possession,” she said.

THERESA D ’AG O S T I N O

Known for honesty and devotion in all aspects of life, Super Senior Morgan Eastling has worked hard to overcome many obstacles to achieve success in her academic and musical career.

Director of Bands Mr. Michael Benner nominated Eastling. “She has been a leader and a mentor to many students in her section and throughout the entire band. She deserves to be nominated based on her great musical ability, dedication, and leadership,” he said.

Eastling has been in the marching band for every year of high school, and was the band’s drum major for the past two seasons. She also performed in the school’s Wind Ensemble, and was recognized for her talent through AllCounty Band, All-County Orchestra and

All-District Band.

Additionally, Eastling was alsonamed Outstanding Junior for Band and was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award, which recognizes her accomplishments in high school band.

Eastling also excels in the classroom.

One of her favorite memories from high school was presenting her AWED project, a carefully crafted and sewn black gown, at the showcase during her sophomore year. “I was so excited to share my work with everyone and it was one of my most rewarding experiences,” she said.

Close friend, senior Ben War�eld describes Eastling as silly, kind, devoted and genuine. He feels that this nomination is completely deserved.

“She always gives 100% in everything

she does,” he said.

During the past four years, Eastling feels she has learned to navigate her challenges, and she has learned to grow and learn from them.

“I will be leaving high school knowing that I worked my hardest to be the best person I can be and that I am fully prepared to handle what the future holds,” she said.

Eastling plans to attend North Carolina State University Honors College next year.

She plans to focus on textiles or architecture and design.

In the future, Eastling believes that she will just let life lead her and take it easy.

“I see myself just drawing in a sketchbook, making plans for my next project,” she said.

BROOK FOWLER During her time at Sparta, Super Senior Brook Fowler has demonstrated incredible leadership, determination and passion both on and off the basketball court. Those lucky enough to know her know that she is genuine and always a source of positive energy.

Over the past four years, Fowler has been a driving force on the varsity women’s basketball team, playing as a center and taking on the role of captain this year. Her hard work was recognized this year when she was named an All-Conference player, an amazing honor.

“She is the type of person every coach would love to have on their team. You only have to tell her once what to do and how to do it and it

gets done,” said Head Coach Rick Anderson, who nominated her.

According to Coach Anderson, Brook is always supportive of her teammates and will always be there to help anyone who needs it.

Close friend and teammate, senior Gabriella Loyd, appreciates that Fowler exhibits this compassion in all aspects of her life, while keeping her priorities straight. “Brook’s personality is like a butter�y, beautiful, bright, and just everywhere, but in a good way.

She’s very kind and will always offer any help if needed,” said Loyd.

Fowler also participates in track and �eld, taking part in the shot put, discus, and long jump events. “With basketball, it’s more about quick movement and contact…with track it’s

more about technique and knowing when to do something to get a further throw or jump,” she said.

Fowler has been highly involved in the Spartan community. Her favorite memories include cheering so much at football games she lost her voice and winning Homecoming Queen.

Next year, Fowler plans to attend Appalachian State University and study either biology or exercise science. She hopes that she will have the opportunity to play basketball during her time there.

“Playing basketball at Tabor has meant everything to me. It’s honestly the main highlight of my high school career! My teammates are like my sisters and I will forever miss playing for Tabor,” she said.

DANIEL FULP

Super Senior Daniel Fulp is the epitome of a leader especially on the basketball court. As co-captain of the team this past year, Fulp helped lead a young team to the Elite Eight in the 3A state tournament and a second place �nish in the N.C. Maxpreps 3A poll at the end of the year.

Fulp has been an integral part of the basketball program during his junior and senior seasons, particularly for the past two years. He was a starter as a junior and senior, and was selected to the Piedmont Triad 3A All-Conference team both seasons. This year, the 6-foot-4 center was selected to the Winston-Salem Journal All-Area First Team and Second Team NCHSAA All-District 7.

Fulp often put up double digits points and rebounds, averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game, and shooting 53 percent from the �eld.

Coaches and players agree that Fulp’s leadership was crucial to the team’s success this season, including head coach Andy Muse.

“Daniel Fulp was a great leader for our undefeated conference season this year. He was always upbeat, positive to his teammates and showed enthusiasm each day of practice and for games,” he said.

Fulp credits many of the teachers and faculty at Sparta for his achievements both as an athlete and as a person overall, especially Coach Muse. “Through all the cuss outs and tough love, Andy Muse has always been a positive role model. It [is] bigger than basketball with him he has taught me how to be a man,” he said.

After college, Fulp plans on pursuing a professional basketball career in Europe, but wants to make sure that he focuses on getting his degree while in college. Although he is currently undecided on what he will study, he is emphatic about focusing on his academics while also preparing for his ultimate goal of playing basketball. He has accepted a scholarship offer to continue his academic and athletic career at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. However, Fulp knows that at the next level of competition will be dif�cult, especially as the speed and physicality of the game changes.

“Physically, to play at the next level you have to be strong because you will be playing grown men pretty much. I work out a lot and have gained about 40 pounds of muscle in high school, so I feel like I’ll be physically ready as well,” he said.

Fulp’s future goals are evident to his friends and family. Close friend senior Faith Hawkins, believes that he will achieve his dreams. “In 10 years I see Daniel playing basketball professionally and being very successful in his life,” she said.

After a strong overall career during his time as a Spartan, Super Senior Daniel Fulp will be looking to continue his athletic and academic successes at Pfeiffer University next fall.

Known widely for her dedicated leadership and supportive, caring friendship, Abby Grif�n has made a lasting impact on both the academic world and the dance team over the past four years.

Dance team coach Mrs. Jessica Cadby, Grif�n’s nominator, has appreciated the Super Senior’s involvement in Tabor’s dance team. “[As a senior leader] Abby has been an integral part in the success of the dance team this year,” said Coach Cadby.

Always driven, Grif�n took the initiative to learn both front and back line choreography her junior year, making her both more versatile and indispensable.

On the dance team, she is known as an understanding leader and a constant source of positivity during practices and games.

Although she can be introverted, people who know Grif�n well see the loving and goofy side to her character.

Close friend senior Claire Pomper’s favorite memories with Grif�n include dancing with her at football games, homework dates over coffee and simply driving around, listening to music. She describes Grif�n as “genuine and trustworthy.”

In addition to being a talented dancer and supportive friend, Grif�n has also performed well in the academic setting..

Among other honors, Grif�n was inducted into National Honors Society, named a Junior Marshal and was a leader of STAND. Grif�n is proud of these accomplishments, and describes herself as a “determined, compassionate and hardworking” individual in all aspects of her life. These are characteristics that she will carry with her as she moves to the next stage in her journey.

In the fall, Grif�n will attend North Carolina State University and intends to major in environmental science. In 10 years, she hopes to be an environmental lawyer, where she can contribute to a lasting positive impact on the world around us. “She is very hard-working, so there is no doubt in my mind she will obtain a well-respected position, most likely in a STEM �eld,” said Pomper.

Super Senior Grif�n has impacted many people throughout her high school career, through her participation in the dance team and in numerous clubs, as well as due to her loving and compassionate demeanor. As Coach Cadby said, “We will miss her positive attitude and smile on dance team next year!”

Due to his amiable behavior and dedicated approach to learning throughout his four years at Sparta, Mark Guevara was nominated to be one of this year’s Super Seniors by math teacher Mr. Chris Turner.

“Mark is a mature, well-rounded senior who already has a great handle on life. He tries hard and seems to get along with anyone: teachers or peers,” said Mr. Turner.

Friends describe Guevara as funny, kind and hard-working. To senior Konor Gray, he is the student that every teacher should hope to have.

“In every class we have ever had together, he has become best friends with the teacher and everyone in the class...He will change the way your classroom feels in whole by bringing great energy with him,” Gray said.

Guevara is known for contagious friendliness and describes himself as a great person to come to for help.

“He is one of the kindest people I know, and no matter what kind of jam he is in, he will put the biggest effort toward helping you with anything you need,” said Gray.

While at Sparta, Guevara has successfully opened his own lawn care business, Mark’s Landscaping, and hopes to open another before graduation.

In the fall, Guevara will attend Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, Ariz., to get his certi�cate in diesel mechanics.

Guevara attributes his success to his no-nonsense attitude. “I am a hard worker, but I believe that working smarter is the better option,” he said.

His favorite memories over the past four years have been the conversations he has had with his teachers. “Tabor has the best teachers, in my opinion; they make learning fun and interesting,” he said.

Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit is sure to aid in his further success. “In 10 years, he still may be working just as hard as he is now, but in 30 years, someone else will be cutting his grass while he is on a nice big boat, relaxing,” said Gray.

K AT E H E M BY Outgoing, bubbly, intelligent, determined: each of these traits describe Super Senior Kate Hemby. She has been an important member of the Spartan community, proving to be a strong role model for peers, socially and academically.

Hemby is known for her friendly demeanor and inclusion of everyone she comes in contact with. “When I �rst moved to Tabor my junior year, she instantly made me feel included and like I belonged here.

Kate is so friendly and inclusive that she has really never met,” said friend and senior Erin McLaughlin.

Hemby’s academic and extra curricular achievements include Vice President of NHS, President of NAHS, President of French Club and former Key Club editor, aside from school, Hemby is a coach for CEA Teal Inspire, a non-pro�t cheer team for children with disabilities.

“Although coaching was outside of school, it changed my perspective on the people at Tabor. I felt that everyone has something that makes them inspiring, and that showing compassion for everyone is something that we need in today’s world,” said Hemby.

She has risen above the diversity that she has faced and became a community builder for those around her. One of Hemby’s characteristics that is easily agreeable on is that she is compassionate to everyone, even when she does not have to be.

Art teacher Mrs. Barbara Trinh has been a close mentor to Hemby throughout high school, and nominated her to be a super senior. “Kate has been in art all four years at Mount Tabor. She loves art and is a fantastic artist! She has been spending time during second semester painting beautiful, colorful animals,” said Mrs. Trinh.

Hemby’s work has been featured at several events, such as the Dixie Classic Fair and the Spring Art Extravaganza.

This fall, Hemby plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and study exercise science in the Honors College. She hopes to become a special needs physical therapist.

“Kate is going to absolutely kill it at her dream school and after that, I have no doubts in my mind that Kate will continue to use her passion and drive to become successful in whatever path she chooses,” said McLaughlin.

AUDREY LLOYD Resilient. Hardworking. Intelligent. All words that describe Audrey Lloyd, who was nominated to be a Super Senior by women’s tennis head coach Mr. Taylor McDaniel.

Despite many setbacks and injuries, Lloyd has played tennis every year. What Mr. McDaniel focuses on is her strengths.

“Audrey has overcome the most adversity I've ever seen from multiple injuries, heat fatigue, setbacks with emotions, and �tness goals,” he said.

“When she suffered a concussion her sophomore year, she had every chance to put tennis away for a while. Instead, she kept going as much as she could and, bit by bit, improved her athleticism and came back stronger than ever.”

Not only is she academically and athletically gifted, but also Lloyd is kind and understanding to those around her.

Her boyfriend Holden Coty highlights this, describing her as a very loving and compassionate person.

Lloyd is proud of her generous nature, and uses it to make those around her feel comfortable and supportive. “I am a positive, hard-working and kind person. I love to help everyone around me and make everyone feel loved,” she said.

She is also an extremely committed team player, and always tries to help others succeed. These traits make her an ideal choice to lead. “Audrey puts so much pressure on herself, she deserves the position she has on the tennis team (captain) for how she overcomes so much to achieve her goals,” said Mr. McDaniel.

Lloyd is content with her high school career, and feels as though she has accomplished a lot. “I feel like I have accomplished making excellent grades

and improved my tennis game tremendously from being a beginner when I started as a freshman to now being number four on varsity,” she said.

She has made several notable memories during high school, whether it being a regional quali�er for tennis in 2019, or just hanging out with friends.

However, her favorite memory is a more recent one. “My favorite memory of Tabor was being at the state championship football game and watching us win,” she said.

In the fall, she plans to go to North Carolina State University and study biology, hoping to go into the medical �eld. Lloyd has worked hard all four years of high school and displayed strong leadership and the ability to work through challenges to all of her teachers and friends.

Sokhna Lo earned the title of Super Senior due to her admirable contributions in both athletics and academics. Her dedication to the volleyball team and to her studies has given her an edge over her peers.

Lo has played volleyball for the school as a right side hitter all four years of her high school career. During her freshman year, she and the rest of her team won the conference championship. She also served as co-captain as a junior and senior, and has led her team to second and third place conference titles.

Sokhna used more than her athletic prowess to make an impact on her team however. Her coach and nominator, Robyn Wesselman, applauds her perseverance and inquisitiveness, and her teammate and friend senior Lauren Hill describes her as, “loving, funny and energetic. It is rare to see her unhappy or in a bad mood.”

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Lo has been recognized for her hardwork academically as well. During her junior year, she was the recipient of the Amateur Athletic Union All American award, which recognizes students for their outstanding academic and athletic achievements. She was also a junior marshal.

Lo also participated in and led a variety of clubs and extracurriculars, such as Vice President of the Red Cross Club, Co-Captain of the Math and Science Academic Teams, and

the Co-founder and Head Math Tutor of the Reynolda Library’s Extenders, which helps to tutor underprivileged children.

Lo also co-founded the Winston-Salem Sengalese Association and Founded the Masjid Al-Mu-Minum Enrichment Program. The �rst organization helped to raise money and awareness for impoverished schools in Senegal, and the second aimed to teach children how to read and write Arabic. She credits her time at Tabor with developing this desire in her, saying, “I also got more invested in how to connect Senegalese communities in Winston Salem to the needy children in Dakar, Senegal.”

In the fall, Lo will be attending Pomona College to pursue a neuroscience degree to get on track to achieving her career goals of ultimately entering the medical �eld.

Lo gives credit to Sparta for cultivating this in her, saying, “I de�nitely was able to develop my passion for health care during my four years at Tabor by taking a nursing fundamental class, health science class and even volunteering at the seasonal blood drives.”

Lo is setting out to accomplish great things, and her actions during her time at Sparta will always be remembered.“We will read about a discovery she has made in the neuroscience �eld and be able to say ‘I remember when Sokhna was my teammate or classmate,’” said Coach Wesselman.

Over the course of the past four years, Super Senior Xavier Marlowe-Rogers has displayed consistent dedication to both his academic excellence, as well as to the men’s soccer team.

Head men’s soccer coach Jay Ben�eld nominated Marlowe-Rogers due to his work-ethic, which he demonstrates both on and off the soccer �eld.

“Xavier is very dedicated. He is a determined, hard working student and he gives tireless effort on the soccer �eld. He has balanced both school and sports as well as maintained a job and is a tremendous representative of Mount Tabor, as he volunteers, is well-liked by his teachers and respected by his teammates,” said Coach Ben�eld.

Marlowe-Rogers is also an active participant in the school community, as he is involved in a variety of clubs, including

National Honor Society, Academic Team and Key Club.

As he re�ects on his time at Sparta, Marlowe-Rogers feels he has accomplished a lot. “I’ve de�nitely grown as a person and become a better student, but most importantly, I feel like these last four years have helped prepare me for my future,” he said.

Soccer has been part of what has made the past four years memorable. This past season, Marlowe-Rogers, a defender, helped the soccer team to a 10-2-2 record and a second place �nish in the Piedmont Triad 3A Conference. He will miss the experiences of preparing for and playing in games, especially in front of his friends and family.

Although soccer has created many great moments, Marlowe-Rogers’ favorite is more recent: “[It’s] going to watch us win

the state championship in football in Chapel Hill,” he said.

Marlowe-Rogers describes himself as laid back, hardworking and someone who likes to have a good time, and both his friends and Coach Ben�eld agree.

According to close friend and teammate Clay Burgess, “Xavier is an upbeat, funny, talkative guy. He jokes around and has fun but also works hard at school.”

Next year, Marlowe-Rogers will be attending the University of Notre Dame.

Although he is still undecided about his major, he hopes that it allows him to pursue a career and job that he loves.

Marlowe-Rogers’ friends are con�dent in his impending achievements. “In 10 years, Xavier’s going to be independent and successful. In whatever career he pursues, he will excel and �nd happiness,” said Burgess.

As the 2020-21 school year comes to a close, Super Senior BJ McIntyre rounds off his time at Sparta by showcasing his positive impact on his community through his track and football accolades and in-school success.

Men’s head track coach Patrick Cromwell nominated McIntyre due to his incredible performance on the track, his impact on the gridiron and his display of integrity and respect off the �eld. “BJ is respectful, quiet and listens before he makes a comment or decision. [He] lets his legs do the talking on the football �eld and track,” Coach Cromwell said.

McIntyre is not a typical high school athlete. In addition to his skills on the track, McIntyre was an integral part of the �rst team in school history to win a state championship. After the game, he was also nominated All-Conference Player of the Year for his performance as the Spartan’s star running back.

McIntyre sees more in himself than just athletic ability, as he describes himself by saying, “I feel as if I accomplished a lot at Tabor in the classroom and on the sports side.”

It is clear that McIntyre prioritizes family along with academics and athletics, as he cites his brother, Tyress as the person who knows him best.

The brothers began playing when BJ was six and Tyress was �ve. “We’ve played together a long time and now we are on the same team and it's been so much fun,” said BJ. Unsurprisingly, given BJ’s talent, Tyress is also an athletic success at starting quarterback. Both brothers concurred about their favorite memory of Tabor: winning the state championship over Cleveland High School just weeks ago at the conclusion of the football season.

For his future, McIntyre has high expectations.

He will be attending Fayetteville State next year to play football, while pursuing a business degree. When asked where he would like to be 10 years from now, McIntyre was concise and con�dent: “The league.”

Despite football being such a prominent factor in his nomination this year, it is important to not forget McIntyre’s stellar track history. Cromwell describes him as consistent and dependable when it is time to race.

While having accolades as an individual athlete, Cromwell also cites him as a crucial team-race factor. “[BJ] executes for his team or relay every time,” he said.

McIntyre’s future is bright, and his expectations of himself are high. Con�dent that his name will be known one day, McIntyre has left all his opportunities ful�lled for his future endeavors.

TYRESS MCINTYRE Tyress McIntyre is a familiar name in Sparta’s hallways right now more than ever, as the starting quarterback for the state championship winning football team for 2021.

Director of Guidance Mr. Stan Huck did not hesitate to nominate McIntyre for Super Senior.

“Tyress has been an in�uential leader of the 2021 football team. He is a dedicated athlete,” he said.

Sports have always been a big part of McIntyre’s life. He began playing football at �ve years old, and since then has been dedicated to the game.

“The drive for the sport is my family. It’s no better feeling than seeing your family cheering for you as you are on the �eld,” he said.

Head Coach Tiesuan Brown also speaks highly of McIntyre. Earlier this year, he described McIntyre by saying, “He’s the trigger man and you have to show leadership and character and he’s done that. He’s exceeded my expectations.”

In addition to football, McIntyre is a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams, Not only is he an asset to track, but he brings his speed to the �eld as well. “We...had a great runner at quarterback,” said Coach Brown, who also referenced McIntyre’s ability to run a 4.5 or below in the 40-yard dash.

McIntyre feels that he began to mature as a freshman when he started pushing himself not only in the game of football, but also in the classroom. Mr. Huck calls both him and his brother “scholar athletes.”

His academic success is leading him to the path to college, he is undecided but plans on pursuing school for 4 more years.

Something particularly satisfying for McIntyre was being able to lead the Spartans in not only an undefeated season, but also in the State Championship win against Cleveland High School.

“Leading this school to the �rst football championship, that was a wonderful feeling, that was a dream since I was a kid,”said McIntyre.

McIntyre’s close friend and teammate junior Eliott Trinh has appreciated his leadership on the �eld.

Trinh says “Tyress is a natural leader, and without Tyress we wouldn’t have won the state title. He stepped up and led the team when we needed him to,” said Trinh.

The positive attitude McIntyre has on the �eld translates into being a strong player, and is a trait that will take him far in life. “When Tyress messes up in practice or in a game, he brushes it off and thinks about the next play. He’s calm and is ready for what comes at him,” said Trinh.

Senior Hannah Petty was nominated by many of her teachers to be featured as a “Super Senior.” Petty has excelled in her studies and challenged herself both academically and physically throughout the years.

Petty pushed herself over her high school career by trying new activities, such as soccer and tennis. Despite never playing the sport before, she joined the tennis team 10 months ago. Now, Petty is the No. 6 singles player and a partner of the No. 3 doubles team with junior Chelsea Ivers.

She is currently undefeated as a singles player.

Petty always sees the best in every situation and is constantly encouraging

team members to be the best version of themselves. During �tness activities, she keeps others motivated and always brings a smile to everyone's face. “Hannah is one of the most supportive and encouraging people on the team,” said junior Ella Rose.

Friend and fellow Super Senior Madison Rabold describes Petty as kind, sel�ess, driven and always puts others before herself. “Hannah is involved heavily in many different extracurricular activities and is performing at the highest level academically,” said Rabold.

Petty has thrived in the academic environment. Over the past few years, Petty has taken 13 Advanced placement classes, and was named one of last year’s

junior marshals.

As far as memorable moments go, some of Petty’s favorites have been cheering in the student section during football games, as well as all the times she met new friends.

Next year, Petty will attend Furman University next year and study biology and chemistry on a pre medical track. In 10 years, she hopes to be a pediatric surgeon.

As Petty looks towards graduation, she leaves this advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to push yourself academically and to try something new outside of school, even if you've never done it.”

Over the past four years, Senior Madison Rabold has proven herself to be a very talented member of the tennis team and academic achiever.

Her work ethic and profound leadership has made her exceptionally successful in many areas.

Rabold has been playing tennis for �ve years and began her career on the tennis team her freshman year. Since then, she has worked hard to achieve all she has accomplished, including the most improved player in 2018, a regional quali�er in 2019 and a tennis captain junior and senior year.

Tennis coach Mr. Taylor McDaniel has enjoyed watching Rabold’s passion for the sport and dedication to the team develop throughout her time at Sparta.

“Her tennis skills have been an area that she has worked so hard to achieve success in. Often, she sees the details that would make her tennis team better before the coaches and that proactive leadership makes me think of her just as much an assistant coach as a top notch player,” said Mr. McDaniel.

While Rabold was devoted to her success on the tennis court, she was also committed to doing well in the classroom and other extracurricular activities. She has been a STAND club leader for two consecutive years, president of the Spanish club, a member of several honor societies and was named a junior marshal.

Close friend and fellow Super Senior Hannah Petty is very proud of all that Rabold has accomplished throughout her years at Sparta. “She is very driven and hardworking,” said Petty.

Similarly to Petty, Rabold credits her success to her well-rounded personality.

“I am caring, conscious, and extremely diligent. I put all of myself into everything I do,” she said.

In the fall, Rabold will be attending Furman University to study health science and possibly political science.

She sees herself working as a physical therapist in the future in addition to being married and starting a family.

While Rabold is looking forward to her future beyond high school, she is grateful for the last four years of her life.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped me get to the place I am today. Mount Tabor truly feels like a second home to me, and I am so lucky to be a member of this community,” said Rabold.

Witty, hardworking and creative are just a few of the qualities that describe Super Senior Ella Reeve.

Whether she is on stage or on the volleyball court, Reeve has succeeded in making a positive impact on both students and teachers during her time at Sparta.

Reeve was nominated by Director of Guidance Mr. Stan Huck for her outstanding academic achievements and leadership skills. “Ella is a very strong scholar. Her spirit, determination and passion for life and building positive connections among people are powerful,” said Mr. Huck.

Some of Reeve’s accomplishments include being a Morehead-Cain Scholarship �nalist, Bank of America Student Leader and a Junior Marshal. In addition, she started a new Spartan organization called ASPIRE, where girls meet together to promote gender equality and strong leaders in the community.

“She’s worked really hard her entire life and there’s de�nitely been times when it’s been really hard on her.

She’s been stacked with stuff she needs to do, but she’s gotten through it either way and had time to be there

for other people,” said Reeve’s close friend senior Elena Cole.

Reeve also is heavily involved in both athletics and the arts. She is a four-year member of the volleyball team and played varsity for the past three years.

Additionally, Reeve has also performed in many theater productions over the course of her career, with her most notable role being the lead in Chicago as a junior.

“I had never tried stage performances and I fell in love with it my �rst time on stage. The people [in both volleyball and theater] are so nice and so supportive and it’s a really loving community,” she said.

Reeve will be attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill next year and plans to major in public health with a focus in law. She wants to continue to graduate school and �nd a career that allows her to help others through medicine.

“I hope to land a job that I’m happy with and I feel is doing good work. Ultimately, I want to help restructure the healthcare system to be more equitable so...whatever it takes to get to that,” said Reeve.

Super Senior Steven Rivero Ramirez embodies all the qualities of a model student.

Teachers and peers describe him as intelligent and kind: a pleasure to be around, and he is also respected for his achievements in the classroom.

Rivero Ramirez is a hard worker who is always willing to put forth his best effort and an inquisitive learner who always strives to go above and beyond.

He has a particular passion for S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). “Steven is a scholar who loves science, math, and physics,” said director of guidance Mr. Stan Huck.

Mr. Huck nominated Rivero Ramirez, and described him with praise. “Steven is constantly smiling and �nding the positive in all things. He is always gracious, kind, and engaging. He asks good and important questions,” said Mr. Huck.

Ramirez was pleasantly surprised by

the nomination.

“It’s quite hard to say what I may have been nominated for, hopefully because of my academic achievement,” he said.

Due to his outstanding efforts and achievements in the classroom Rivero Ramirez was awarded a Hispanic League Scholarship, which requires not only maintaining high academic standing, but also demonstrating active community service and documented service hours.

Rivero Ramirez cares deeply about both the school community as well as the local community.

“What I manage to accomplish in high school is creating connections to obtain success and making permanent friendships,” he said.

Administrators and teachers have taken note of Rivero Ramirez’s investment in his school community, such as Mr. Huck’s praise for him for involving his younger brother Joseph in the school

community.

Friends describe Rivero Ramariez as someone who strives for high academic achievement, as well as intelligent and funny and believe this is why he was nominated to be a Super Senior.

Close friend Daniel Zhang remembers his outstanding academic works as well as his impact in the community.

“I remember creating an environmental project in class with him,” said Zhang.

In the fall, Rivero Ramirez will be attending Forsyth Tech to obtain his Engineering Associate’s degree. “I intend to pursue a physics related �eld since it seems to be the �eld of science I �nd more enjoyable,” he said. “Ten years from now, hopefully I will �nd myself in a successful engineering career,” he added.

Rivero Ramirez will leave an impression on his teachers and peers as a strong student, but more importantly an outstanding person and friend.

D AV I D S I E G With a resume that spans from Academic team captain to United Nations essay award winner, prospective valedictorian of the class of 2021, David Sieg has seen much success during his high school career.

Sieg was nominated by Social Studies teacher Mr. Conan Arthur due to his academic achievements. As the social studies Academic team coach, Mr. Arthur has seen Sieg grow to be a valuable asset. Since freshman year, Sieg has been known as a quick, knowledgeable player. According to Mr. Arthur, he shows everyone on the team kindness and respect. “He is non-judgemental, good natured and makes sure that nobody in his group feels excluded.”

However, Academic Team is not the only arena where Sieg excels. With a 4.67 GPA, he is projected to be this year's 26

Valedictorian. In the fall, Sieg will attend North Carolina State University and major in Mathematics and Mathematical teaching, a decision made easier after he was awarded the Park Scholarship. It is a highly competitive scholarship that covers four years of college that is awarded on the basis of “outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service and character.”

Winning the Park is what Sieg is most proud of. “That’s $111,000, the entirety of college off my parents’ back and a secured future for myself,” he said.

In 10 years, Sieg hopes to be obtaining a degree or position at a school, teaching mathematics. “My current plan is to double major in math and math education… I could be within the process of obtaining a PhD to become a professor,” he said.

Theresa D’Agostino describes Sieg as kind, funny, genuine, talented, hardworking and motivated. She is proud of him for working tirelessly and achieving his success. “His hard work and dedication through high school truly paid off and opened so many doors for him,” she said.

D'Agostino also sees Sieg as a math teacher or professor in the future, and she describes him as sel�ess, always willing to help out others when he can. Both Mr. Arthur and D’Agostino describe Sieg as a great leader and teacher. “He’s always had a gift in teaching,” said D'Agostino.

As he looks ahead to graduation, Sieg leaves behind this advice to younger students: to look around them and assess the friendships and people you surround yourself with. He quotes an old Assyrian proverb: “Tell me your friends, and I'll tell you who you are.”

Super Senior Jamari Slade is not only well-rounded, but he excels in many aspects of life.

As the No. 3 returning shot put thrower in the state, as well as an integral part of this year’s state championship-winning football team, Slade well deserves the title of Super Senior.

“I would say I’m a laid back type of guy unless I know you; I'm not going to say much to you. I might laugh a lot, but that’s it,” said Slade.

Slade may seem easygoing, but his work ethic shows otherwise.

Slade’s friend, senior Max U’Ren, agreed. “Slade is a very funny guy… he is a good guy in the building and on the �eld,” he said.

Slade was nominated by throwing coach Christopher Page.

“Jamari is a great role model to his peers. He always arrives at practice early and understands that success comes from hard work,” Coach Page said.

Such hard work has paid off for Slade. In addition to being a fundamental member of the track and �eld team and

meeting the indoor state qualifying mark in the shot put last year, Slade was key to the football program’s undefeated season and �rst state championship this year in a 24-16 victory over Cleveland.

This season, Slade recorded 37 tackles at a rate of 4.6 tackles per game, well above the national average.

“My favorite memory at Tabor has to be winning the State Championship in football for the �rst time in Tabor history,” he said.

Although Slade is well-known for his prowess on the �eld, he sees himself as more than just an athletic �gure.

“I'm a hard worker in the classroom and do what I’m supposed to do in and out of the classroom,” he said.

Slade has high hopes for his future, as he will be attending Fayetteville State University and majoring in computer science.

However, his real passion is football.

“I hope to see myself playing football in the NFL, but if not I hope to see myself working in a company being a software engineer,” he said.

Whether on or off the �eld, Super Senior Kiyanna Staten brings cheer to others, which exempli�es her supportive and caring values.

Her honest and social nature, as well as her drive to succeed, has made her well known among her peers.

As a cheerleader, Staten is known for her ability to liven up a game, and through the sport she has found a strong community.

Building long-lasting relationships with her fellow cheerleaders has been the highlight of her high school experience; she even �nds herself seeking guidance from alumni cheerleaders.

The in�uence the older cheerleaders have on her inspires Staten to be a similar �gure on younger cheerleaders. She often stays late helping out with coaching for competitive cheerleading.

Despite the long hours, she has continued to volunteer because she �nds it rewarding to have the younger girls look up to her.

“Kiyanna will go all out for her team, family, and friends.

She will stay up all night working on gifts or anything just to

put a smile on someone's face,” said head cheer coach Nadra Hunte, who nominated her.

Staten’s friends and teachers recognize her hard work.

Staten herself attributes her Super Senior nomination to her, “academic success, leadership roles and school pride since day one at Tabor.”

In the future, Staten aspires to work in the neonatal intensive care unit of a hospital. To further her journey to this goal, Staten will be majoring in nursing at Howard University.

According to her cer close friend and Spartan alumna Hasana Peaks, “ Something special that not too many people may know about Kiyanna is that she is a ride or die friend, she will never give up on you and whatever crazy roller coaster you’re willing to try, if you ask her to get on with you nine times out of ten she's coming. She will never leave you out in the dark by herself.”

Determination is one of Staten’s most prominent characteristics, and she carries it through all aspects of her life, this is seen by her relentless pursuit of her aspirations and her desire to make a positive impact on Spartans and in her cheer community.

“There’s a lot of roads I feel I could be going down. Hopefully… I’ll be able to hit an Olympic mark and be eligible to go pro in the 110 Hurdles,” said Super Senior Khairi Williams.

He added, “then I’ll take time out of college to work on my music and become a producer/artist.”

Williams is known for excelling in many different �elds, from athletics to the performing arts. He has won several awards including Most Valuable Musician for MTHS Choir 2019, 2019 All-Conference in 110 Hurdles, High Jump, and 300 Hurdles, Track and Field Most Valuable Athlete and All County Chorus for 2017, 2018 and 2019.

“Khairi is a very accomplished musician.

He not only participates and leads in Marching Band, Apollo 10, Choral Ensemble and Wind Ensemble, but he has been accepted to the NC High School Honors Chorus for three straight years (no event 2020-2021), Mars Hill University Choral Festival for three straight years (no event 2020-2021), and All-County Chorus all three years,” said chorus teacher Mr. Ross Broadway, who nominated Williams.

Williams has been surrounded by music ever since he was young. His father graduated from Berklee’s School of Music, and has played in many bands. This gave Williams a wide exposure to many different genres of music since birth.

In addition to musical achievement, Williams is also an accomplished student athlete. He has quali�ed for the New Balance Nationals in Track and Field and has achieved All Conference in Track and Field several times.

“When I �rst started running cross country in middle school I realized I wasn’t a distance runner. But when I tried out for track in middle school I realized I wasn’t fast enough to be a sprinter,” he said.

“Hurdles gave me that ability to be fast but work on something more than that. I’m obsessed with the idea of perfection, and with hurdles there’s always something to improve on.”

Williams also has the support of friends and family who enjoy coming to watch his races throughout his high school career. “I do love seeing him beat records at track meets and the smile he gets when he �nds out. It is the most unique and happy smile I see him have,” said Williams’ girlfriend, Kennedy Moses.

In the fall, Williams will attend the University of North Carolina on a track and �eld scholarship. Here he has been accepted into the school’s Bachelor of Arts Performing Arts program and will major in Vocal Performance.
