Rockefeller, grandson of the American oil magnate, purchased the lands from Clara Livingston and held the inaugural celebration of Dorado Beach Hotel with his famous “Fabulous 150” group of affluent and influential figures. President Gerard Ford and political dignitaries, ministers of foreign affairs and finance from numerous countries held important events, such as the Group of Seven Summit, in 1976 on the property. A few years later, The Pritzker family of Chicago acquired the Resort and operated it under their brand, Hyatt Hotels.

In 2009, a group of very creative and environmentally sensitive investors and developers team up to acquire the historic Dorado Beach Resort and reintroduce it as the Caribbean’s premier luxury eco-friendly destination and resort community. Shortly thereafter, they announced the construction of the Ritz-Carlton Reserve hotel, only the second of this brand in the world, and the development of first Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residences in the world.

On December 12, 2012, Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Hotel and Residences opened its doors.
