Our Vision

Our vision at Doonvale is to provide high quality early education that lays the foundation for lifelong learning. We ensure all of our children are happy, safe and secure in a fun, stimulating and inclusive learning environment. We foster a welcoming ethos where our families are respected, supported and valued. In partnership with parents, we encourage participation and enjoyment in their child’s learning journey. Doonvale places a strong focus on outdoor play where our children engage in high quality experiences, thriving within a rich and natural setting. Children remain at the heart of nursery life.

We welcome and acknowledge our children’s voice and views to help shape our Improvement Plan. They conveyed their favourite places to play, their favourite toys, and what they would like to learn about. Here are some examples…….

Doonvale nursery is committed to delivering high quality care and learning experiences. We have a very strong team who work collaboratively to ensure that we can provide a safe, inspirational and stimulating learning environment.

We consistently evaluate our practice, identify areas for development and as a team embrace any changes required to improve outcomes for our children. This year we are trialling a new milestone tracker, monitoring the children’s Broad General Education alongside the Developmental Milestones. We will continue to develop strategies in which we can ensure parental monthly evaluation feedback promoting stakeholder presence.

To develop a sense of belonging and connection by exploring and becoming familiar with the local community.

Foster community awareness by providing opportunities for exploration.

 Taking walks in the local area, observing the surroundings and identifying the local landmarks.

We will audit time spent in the local community and observe the social and wellbeing impact upon our children.

All staff will be supported to access our new AZILO Training, an online learning platform that will expand their skillset in areas such as Leadership, Literacy, Setting the Table and Outdoor learning.

 Taking care of the environment and respecting the local community

Current measures show that 84% of pre-school children have achieved the BGE statement ‘I can talk about sustainable ways to travel.’

We strive to embrace a culture of continuous improvement to meet the needs of our children ensuring they have the best possible start in life. We are looking forward to the year ahead with our children in a fun, vibrant and secure place for learning and development.

 Enabling the children to learn about different roles and professions within their community.

 Learning about different traditions, trying new foods, and engaging in cultural celebrations.

 Equipping the children with the skillset to regulate and understand their emotions as they navigate social skills and interact positively with others in the community.

Going forward, we will aim for 90% of our children achieving this milestone.

Our data reveals that 95% of pre-school children have achieved the milestone ‘I can express my feelings appropriately.”

Looking forward, we will work towards raising this attainment level.

Establish a robust Numeracy Homelink promoting and supporting parental involvement.

 Create Homelink Bags with objects and materials promoting family fun numeracy play experiences.

 Review Math and Numeracy developmental milestone achievements to ensure support where required most.

 Enhance staff skill by use of Educational Scotland Numeracy Professional Learning Resource Guidance Documents.

Current data shows that 89% of preschool children have achieved the milestone ‘ I can recognise numerals 010.’

Looking forward we will work towards achieving 95%.

Our data reveals that 95% of pre-school children have achieved the milestone ‘I can recognise ‘how many’ without having to count.’

Going forward, we will aim for 100% of our children achieving this milestone

We will assess the impact through parental homelink feedback and the monitoring of our developmental milestone data.

Develop children’s dramatic play and collaborative storytelling skills.

LITERACY

Secure Helicopter Story group times into the daily routine.

 Develop a nurturing and safe space where children can confidently and creatively develop their communication and language skills.

 Expand staff knowledge by referring to ‘Princesses, Dragons and Helicopter Stories’ Book.

 Uphold an approach where every child’s voice is celebrated and cherished.

We will measure the impact by observing children’s Expressive Art progression and monitoring the milestones.

Current data reveals that 89% of children achieved the milestone ‘I can talk clearly to others using sentences.’ Going forward we will aim for 95% or more children achieving this milestone.

Current measures show that 95% of pre-school children have achieved the milestone “I can retell a familiar story.” Looking forward, we will work towards increasing this milestone.

Continue to use ECERS to assess our Numeracy and Literacy provision.

Evaluate children’s level of Numeracy and Literacy engagement by auditing the nursery environment and the resources. Actioning immediate improvements where possible.

Widen the children’s creativity and confidence promoting the right to participate and be heard within a safe and nurturing environment.

Embark upon the second year of our Secret Garden project to improve our outdoor learning provision.

 We will consult with the children our ‘Young Architects’ to co-create a Shelter for the Secret Garden.

 Foster an excitement for design and technology promoting creativity and innovation

 Promote ownership and a sense of belonging by ensuring that the children have space, a voice, an audience and influence

We will observe and nurture the children’s accomplishments and skills acquired during this period.

Current measures show that 79% of preschool children have achieved the BGE Technologies statement ‘I can use the internet to find information with adult support.’

Going forward, we will aim for 85% of our children achieving this milestone.

Expand the children’s Expressive Arts and Early Years Technology skillsets.

Provide opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of materials and media.

 Review our artistic provision and create defined spaces for open-ended exploratory play.

 Promote sharing of ideas and feelings in art, music, movement, dance and roleplay.

 Develop a natural curiosity to explore and obtain knowledge within digital experiences.

Current data reveals that 63% of preschool children achieved the milestone, ‘I have explored the work of different artists and designers.’

Going forward we will aim for 70% of children achieving these milestones.
