DIBRUGARH:
“THE CENTRE OF THE SALESIAN WORLD”
Surprised? Well, Rev. Fr. Pascual V. Chavez, 9th Superior General of the Salesians, was in Don Bosco, Dibrugarh on 26 and 27 February 2005. On 26 Feb. during the reception programme he said, “Today and tomorrow Dibrugarh is the centre of the Salesian world because the Rector Major of the Congregation is here”. The enthusiastic audience went berserk with unblemished joy as they thunderously applauded the Rector Major. Well known as the ‘Tea City of India’, Dibrugarh is located 439 km east of Guwahati. Mega projects like the Brahmaputra Gas Cracker and Polymer Limited, India’s longest rail-cumroad bridge at Bogibeel, and other upcoming modern infrastructures are transforming Dibrugarh into a vibrant city. Don Bosco, Dibrugarh includes Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Don Bosco Apostolic School, Don Bosco Memorial Evening School and Bishop Marengo College Hostel. Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh was officially established on March 18 in 1960 at the present Bishop’s House campus. In 1970 it was shifted to its present site. During its Golden Jubilee
Year in 2010 it was upgraded to Higher Secondary School (DBHSS). In the Province level DB Bicentenary related Gospel Choreography competition on 23 Oct. 2015, the students of DBHSS Dibrugarh bagged the third prize. In the 2016 HSLC examinations, out of the 142 candidates 139 passed, 115 in the 1st division. Two students, Suryajyoti Dutta and Wajahat Yusuf secured 13th and 20th positions, respectively. In the 2016 HSSLC examinations, all the 33 Arts students passed, 17 of them in the 1st div; all the 23 Commerce students passed, 10 of them in the 1st div. The first batch of post-Matric Aspirants reached Don Bosco Dibrugarh on 28 June 1982. Since then many boys have gone through the portals of the Apostolic School. The following have reached priesthood: Fr. Theotimus Lakra and Fr. Nicholas R. K. Guangdiat (studied in the Apostolic School in 1983-1988), Fr. Peter Salew and Fr. Samuel Elow (1984-1989), Fr. Rini Chakho James and Fr. Nabor Dungdung (1987-1992), Fr. T. P. James, Fr. K. C. James and Fr. Gangmei J. Joshua (1990-1996),
