The Studio in a School Association is proud to present Young Visions 2025, an inspiring exhibition featuring over 195 vibrant student artworks. This year’s exhibition celebrates the outstanding artistic achievements of students from Studio’s visual arts education programs in New York City, Cleveland, Ohio, East Orange and Newark, New Jersey.
Working with Studio artist instructors, students observe, imagine, and interpret the people, places, and things that shape their lives. Young Visions 2025 not only showcases students’ artistic development but also honors the effort, learning, growth, and creativity of every child who participated in Studio’s programs this year.
The visual arts are vital to the communities we serve, providing young people with much-needed opportunities for social and emotional growth and an outlet to explore their feelings and experiences. Young Visions 2025 brings together exceptional student artworks from our partner schools. Seen collectively, these artworks powerfully underscore the curiosity, imagination, and promise of the city’s next generation.
We are grateful to our artist instructors for their hard work and dedication. We are equally appreciative of the schools and communities that have embraced our programs.

Young Visions is Studio in a School’s annual year-end exhibition. It is a vibrant celebration of the outstanding artworks created within our programs. The exhibition highlights the creativity of our students and underscores the essential role of the arts in education. Each of the more than 195 works of art is a testament to the depth and breadth of Studio’s visual arts programming.
Our artist instructors are integral to Studio’s work. These professional artists inspire students to express themselves and to explore a diverse range of media. By guiding students with open-ended prompts and hands-on experiences, artist instructors cultivate an environment where students can use their imagination to explore their creativity. The result is an extraordinary collection of art work that reflects self-awareness, free expression, and the visionary optimism of youth.
Young Visions also honors Studio in a School’s partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, students, and families in New York City; Cleveland, Ohio; and in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey. This exhibition reflects our deep appreciation for the active engagement of our partnering art organizations and school communities.
This exhibition, and more broadly our work, would not be possible without the incredible efforts, talent, and professionalism of our administrative staff. Their dedication to Studio in a School brings Agnes Gund’s vision and mission of Studio to life in classrooms, communities, and exhibition spaces all year round.
Young Visions serves as a powerful reminder of how the arts and arts education can transform lives and enrich our shared experience. On behalf of Studio in a School’s Board of Directors, I offer heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to making this exhibition a success.
On a final note, please join me in congratulating Tom Cahill who is retiring from his role as President of Studio Institute. Tom grew the organization from its humble beginnings and helped shape it into a nationally recognized exemplar in the field of art education. The entire Studio in a School community extends a tremendous amount of gratitude to Tom for his foresight and dedication.

Studio in a School Association fosters the creative and intellectual development of youth through quality visual arts programs. Studio also collaborates with arts programming providers, offering professional development and curriculum support to schools and community organizations.
Since our founding in 1977 by Agnes Gund, our programs have continued to thrive, bringing visual arts education taught by professional artists to students in New York City and beyond. We fulfill our mission through our NYC Schools Program, serving students in pre-K through high school and Studio Institute, which shares professional learning, partnership programs, arts internships, and research grants at local and national forums. Together, we’re enriching young lives through visual arts.

Artworks from the Studio Institute
Studio Institute provides opportunities for learners of all ages through visual arts education and career development programs in cities across the country.
Artwork in this exhibition, by Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students in Creative Start, showcases painting and collage. This Early Childhood program is offered at Head Start, community programs, and schools, including Althea Gibson Academy and Wahlstrom Academy in East Orange, New Jersey.
Exhibited also are works from young artists at Fairhill Partners in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as student artwork from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD): Clara E. Westropp School of the Arts, Dike School of the Arts, Garfield School, and Mary B. Martin School. Our in-school residency programs with CMSD serve students from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Working in various media, students explore their creativity, while connecting to other learning.
Locally, Studio Institute’s out-of-school programs for New York City public high school students include a series of Studio Intensives in which students hone their skills in various mediums—from charcoal figure drawing and oil pastel self-portraits to landscape painting with acrylics. These works reflect the teens’ interests, perspectives, and observations of the world, people, and things around them, as they develop as artists.
