How do we approach a society we don’t know? How do we speak about something that is unknown? How is our culture forming our own point of view? «Observing the Unknown» is a project about missing information in a world overloaded with imagery and data and how we deal with it. On North Sentinel Island, an island in the indian ocean, lives an Indigenous tribe, who rejects every contact to other people and remain virtually untouched by the modern world. As a result of the lack for proper knowledge about the island, it has become an object for projection, imagination, political ideas and radical theories. This book tries to get closer to this unknown society. Through the combination of stock photographs, it creates a criticism of the idealized and stereotyped image of the western world and asks questions about principles, norms and desires.
