Tuesday was called „arrival day“. Some partners from Comenius came to Litomyšl in the afternoon but the others came until in the evenning. After their arrival we could enjoy as we worked. Somebody started a sightseeing tour around Litomyšl but somebody went to play bowling.

2. day- Wednesday

In the morning all the foreign students went on a trip to Moravian karst. They visited many interesting places there, for example the well known abysm Macoca (more on p. 12). When they came back at about 3 p.m. leisure time followed. During their line they could do what they wanted with their host families. However, most of them went to a concert called „The best of (not only) classic” (J. Williams, E. Morricone, A. Dvořák) in the Smetana’s house.

When votes were counted and the winners were known, the foreigners were toured through around of our school, to get to know let them the beauties of this historical and architectonical building. As the last not the least thing in the program was the presentation of the partnership schools, where they introduced themselves, so we all know a little more about each another. SPECIAL THINGS The Moravian Karst

The Moravian Karst (Czech: Moravský kras) is a karst landscape and protected nature reserve to the north of Brno in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, located near the town of Blansko. It encompasses a number of notable geological features, including roughly 1100 caverns and gorges and covers an area of roughly 92 km². Currently, four of the cave systems (Punkva Caves, Balcarka Cave, Kateřinská Cave, and Sloupsko-šošůvské Cave) are open for public tours and exploration. This region is also home to one of the most important single geological features in the Czech Republic, the Macocha Abyss, a gorge 138 m deep, which was formed when the ceiling of an underground cave chamber collapsed. Macocha Abyss is also the place where the Punkva River begins to run underground through the Punkvení cave system, and two small pools of water are visible at the surface. The Moravian Karst is a popular tourist attraction in the local area, and large numbers of tourists visit in the summer months. In addition to caverns, the nature preserve also contains well-marked bicycle trails and hiking paths to explore.

Pink meadow

The Pink meadow is a memorable place, which was on January 1. 1989 declared as a cultural sight. It is located about 7 kilometers west of Litomyšl between villages Morašice and Újezd and proximally 1,85 hectares big. As it’s name foreshadows pink roses grow at this place. Today the Pink meadow is surrounded by a park, where the copper memorial of Czech Brothers is placed. The first mention of this place is from Joseph’s cadaster in year of 1787 with a note of useless piece of ground. Credits for it’s fame could be given to writer Alois Jirásek, who wrote about it in his book Old Czech Rumors. He got interested in the Pink meadow in 1879 at the time he taught at grammar school in Litomyšl. It’s almost breathtaking how many different rumors is connected with this place. For example, this should be the place, where valedictory Czech Brothers hid a golden calyx and from their tears white roses have grown. The roses from there, as other rumors say, could not be removed as well as planted elsewhere. The Pink meadow also resists to every disruptor and a few rumors mention Russian soldiers moving through at the time of Napoleon’s wars.
