H O M E STO R I E S FOR WINTER

Our home is the only place where we can truly be ourselves. It grows with us, reflects our personality and becomes part of our identity.

3

At Vitra, we believe in the principle of the collage – the idea that a vibrant living space is not achieved by conforming to a unified plan, but rather gains character through a mix of old and new, high and low, classic and contemporary. Selecting and arranging furniture, objects, textiles and accessories, in a blend of classics, personal favourites and new designs, gradually gives shape to a collage of the owner’s life story. To tell this winter’s home stories, we selected rich shades with bright accents, thick textiles and warm woods to enhance the Vitra Home Collection.

Lounge Chair: Celebrating 60 Years of Production When Charles and Ray Eames designed the Lounge Chair in 1956, their primary aim was to create a soft and comfortable piece of seating furniture. The premium-quality armchair has since been available in various veneers, leather upholstery colours and base versions. In the early years, the Lounge Chair was occasionally offered with fabric covers – however, Vitra has always produced it exclusively in leather.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of production in 2016, Vitra is now offering the fabriccovered edition Lounge Chair Twill and Ottoman for a limited period of time. The elegant Twill fabric from the Vitra Colour & Material Library imbues the chair with cosy softness and inviting warmth. The fabric version is available in the classic combination of dark, reddish palisander wood and black Twill.** Lounge Chair & Ottoman, Charles & Ray Eames, 1956 from € 7.188,00

The Lounge Chair Twill and Ottoman with fabric covers are marked with a corresponding label and come with a “60 Years of Production” certificate.

Wooden Dolls by Alexander Girard Alexander Girard originally created the Wooden Dolls (1953), a whimsical assortment of figures both joyful and grim, for his own home. Today they add a charming touch to any interior.

The architect and designer Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures in American design during the postwar era. His passion for colours, patterns and textures found expression in the field of textile design, which was a focal part of his oeuvre.

Nuage by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec The cloud shape of the Nuage vases made its first appearance in the oeuvre of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in 2002. For the Nuage vase, the designers executed the cloud motif in extruded aluminium profiles of varying lengths. The cavities in the basic form are now positioned upright, dividing the vase into eight individual tubes that can be used for the artful arrangement of flowers and grasses. The undulating surfaces, with an anodised finish in various colours, produce an attractive interplay of light and shadow. Thanks to their precise outer contours, the vases can be fitted together to create entire “cloud formations”.

The brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec live and work in Paris. Their oeuvre ranges from small everyday objects to architectural projects. They have worked with Vitra since 2000 and have contributed numerous designs to both the office and home collections.
