Form III Study Skills Evening

For Academic Session 2025/26

Evidence-Based Revision Strategies: A Guide for Parents

Dean Campbell will introduce parents to evidence-based revision strategies proven to support effective learning and long-term memory. Drawing on established cognitive science and educational research, the session will outline highly effective approaches such as dual coding, interleaving, spaced practice, and a variety of retrieval-practice methods. Parents will gain practical insights into how these techniques support deeper understanding and sustained academic progress.

In addition, the session will address common myths surrounding revision. This, we hope, will leave parents with clear, research-informed guidance to help their children revise more efficiently and effectively.

Digital Tools for Smarter Learning

Andrew McGlen, Head of Computing Science

In this presentation, Andrew McGlen, Head of Computing Science, will introduce a range of digital tools designed to help pupils organise their learning more effectively. The session will demonstrate how Microsoft Outlook, Teams, OneNote Class Notebook and OneDrive can be used to plan time, manage tasks, access class materials and maintain clear, well-structured study routines. Practical examples will show how features such as calendar planning, to-do lists and organised digital notebooks can support day-to-day learning and reduce unnecessary pressure.

The session will also explore how Achieve can be used to strengthen learning and revision. Andrew will outline how pupils can use the platform to monitor progress, revisit key topics, and build purposeful study habits that promote deeper understanding over time.

We hope this will leave pupils and parents with clear, useful guidance on how to make the most of these digital tools throughout the school year to support organisation, confidence and academic success.

Mental Health & Study

Craig Wilson, Head of PSE / Teacher of History & Modern Studies

In this presentation, Craig Wilson will outline the most common mental health issues faced by pupils who are beginning their exam journey. He will highlight how issues like stress and anxiety manifest in different young people and what signs to look out for.

The presentation will also look to provide practical guidance on how parents can support their children through these challenges and how we can use healthy amounts of pressure to excel.

Pupil Panel

In this session, Kayleigh will chair a pupil panel made up of some of our most senior pupils. The panel will respond to Study Skills questions submitted by Form III pupils and parents, offering an authentic, relatable view of what truly works from a pupil’s perspective.

This presentation aims to illuminate “the labyrinth of effective study through a pupil’s lens,” providing practical tips, honest reflections, and meaningful guidance from those who are currently navigating the demands of senior school. The discussion will help Form III pupils and their parents gain clarity, confidence, and strategies they can begin using straight away.
