Rensa Family Company

FROM ITS SMALL GOODS WAREHOUSE IN DIDAM, RENSA FAMILY COMPANY DISTRIBUTES SOME 20,000 ITEMS TO INSTALLERS FOR VARIOUS RENSA FAMILY SPECIALIST WHOLESALERS. NEDCON REALIZED AN AUTOMATIC SYSTEM IN COOPERATION WITH SYSTEM PARTNER KNAPP. PART OF THIS SYSTEM HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED BY THE UPDATED OSR SHUTTLE™ EVO SYSTEM, WHICH IS EVEN MORE COMPACT, FASTER, MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT AND EASIER TO MAINTAIN.

The various specialist sales companies of Rensa Family use its services and expertise on a daily basis. Think of logistics services, HR, E-commerce and ICT, technical support, Marketing & Communication and financial administration. From the distribution centers in Doetinchem (see here the manually delivered project by NEDCON in Doetinchem) and Didam, logistic services are performed for Rensa Heating & Ventilation, Gévier Bathroom & Sanitary and Gafco Cold & Climate. In Didam is the small goods warehouse where a wide variety of products are received, stored,

collected and shipped. Customers who place orders before 6 p.m. receive their orders the same night or the next working day.

With the newly delivered OSR Shuttle™ EVO system, order picking, storage and shipping is even more efficient. Rensa Family Company’s goal with this project was to expand storage and picking capacity to facilitate growth. An additional aisle with flow racks was installed to replace the old picking station. In addition, an extra system was installed at another location to temporarily buffer orders. This buffer is intended for the storage of shipping boxes. In the evening,

when all orders have been collected, the shipping boxes are placed on pallets in the correct order according to the results of the trip planning. In total, four robots stack thousands of boxes every evening in just a few hours so that customers are supplied with their orders on time.

WITRON-Meijer in Tipp City, OH

MORE AND MORE DYNAMISM, FLEXIBILITY AND AGILITY ARE REQUIRED OF A WAREHOUSE OR DISTRIBUTION CENTER. THIS IS ONLY POSSIBLE IF SUCH A FACILITY IS EQUIPPED WITH EXTREMELY DYNAMIC WAREHOUSE AND ORDER PICKING SYSTEMS. THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT OUR RELATION WITRON SPECIALIZES.

Hyperdynamic warehouse

WITRON took charge of a greenfield project for the Meijer corporation: a chain of supercenters, or in other words, hypermarkets. Of course, hypermarkets cannot exist without a hyperdynamic distribution center to ensure fast and constant supply.

That Meijer distribution center rose in Tipp City, Ohio. WITRON engaged NEDCON for this project. This allowed us to more or less repeat, as in 2016 we delivered a similar project for WITRON and Meijer, in Lansing, Michigan.

Our engineers to the limit

Lansing was a good dry run for this even more complex project in Tipp City. One that demanded the utmost from our engineers. The complete design consists of a fine-tuning of a wide range of different elements. These are reflected in the features of this project.

PROJECT | WITRON-MEIJER

The future of efficient warehousing and transportation

IN THE WORLD OF LOGISTICS AND WAREHOUSING, THE TERM AMR HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY PROMINENT IN RECENT YEARS. AMR STANDS FOR AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOT, WHICH REFERS TO UNMANNED VEHICLES WITH AUTONOMOUS NAVIGATION THAT CAN FIND THEIR WAY FROM POINT A TO POINT B ON THEIR OWN. A RAPIDLY GROWING MARKET WITH A RELATIVELY LOW BARRIER TO ENTRY TO AUTOMATION. SINCE 2020 WE HAVE BEEN ACTIVELY WORKING, TOGETHER WITH (MAINLY) CHINESE ROBOTICS SUPPLIERS, TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS THAT CAN BE ATTRACTIVE TO BOTH THEM AND OUR CUSTOMERS.

NEDCON’s role in the world of AMR

What has attracted NEDCON’s specific interest is the use of AMRs in combination with the goods-to-person order picking principle. Particularly in bin storage in this context, we have shifted our focus to this revolutionary technology.

ADVANTAGES OF AMR AT NEDCON

• Optimal storage system for bins: NEDCON provides a storage system that has proven itself successfully over many years in various applications.

• Relatively low costs

• Short assembly times compa red to other suppliers

• Extensive knowledge: NEDCON has accumulated extensive knowledge over the years, both in product development and in the successful realization of projects in the field of storage and logistics.

SMALL GOODS | ROBOTICS (AMR)

In the recent past, NEDCON has made significant progress in developing storage solutions for totes and boxes, gaining valuable knowledge. With more than 10 years of experience and the realization of around 5 million storage locations per year for bins and boxes, NEDCON can use this expertise to offer optimal solutions within partners’ budgets.

To conclude, AMR offers promising opportunities for the future of storage and transportation. NEDCON is well prepared to lead this development with innovative solutions and proven expertise.

Hahn & Groh - Winit in Bremen

A FEW YEARS AGO, THE WINIT COMPANY MOVED TO ITS LOCATION IN GERMANY IN THE NORTH-WEST OF THE HANSEATIC CITY OF BREMEN. THE DISTRICT OF ÜBERSEESTADT OFFERS THE COMPANY THE BEST CONDITIONS FOR SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS OPERATIONS DUE TO THE EXCELLENT CONNECTION TO THE CONTAINER PORT. THE COOPERATION BETWEEN WINIT AND NEDCON WAS INITIATED BY OUR LONG-TERM SPECIALIST TRADE PARTNER HAHN & GROH IN WINSEN AN DER LUHE.

As a logistics service provider, Winit handles the dispatch of goods for various trading companies. The goods arrive at Winit unpalletized in sea containers, where they are distributed directly to conveyor belts. From there, the products arrive in plastic boxes and are stored in the shelving system by robots from Quicktron. The particular challenge is to design the interface between the racking system and the robots in such a way that the removal and posting of the

boxes run absolutely smoothly and without disruption.

The focus was initially on the development of prototypes for the transfer stations. These were assembled by our installation teams at the Bremen location and tested for free space dimensions, tolerances and deflection by Quicktron engineers under everyday conditions. The necessary adjustments were implemented quickly, and the project was able to enter the implementation phase after a few months.

As a further special feature, the shelving system

has been statically designed in such way that the customer can easily decide to have a closed mezzanine floor installed on top of the racking with little effort. This creates another 5000 m² of storage space for robot-guided shelves.

requirements applicable in Europe and individual countries. The standard floors can hold loads of 500kg/m², but NEDCON can also supply floors capable of dealing with loads of 1500kg/m² and more. And depending on the floor you choose, spans of 10 metres are easily achievable.

Masters of customisation

NEDCON’s rock solid mezzanine floors are easy to extend or disassemble (in parts). And they have even more strong points. For example, NEDCON succeeds exceptionally well in making seamless transitions between its mezzanine floors and racks. Better safe than sorry. In addition, NEDCON outshines other suppliers in the integration of its floor systems with, for example, conveyor belts or lifts. NEDCON is the right place to go for custom solutions and ‘specials’ in the field of mezzanine floors.

FINALLY, A COLLISION PROTECTOR THAT REALLY PROTECTS YOUR RACKS:

The Defender by NEDCON. The extremely sturdy, free-standing Defender prevents forklift trucks and pallets from damaging the lower position of uprights and base plates. And because every warehouse is different, the Defender is available in three grades of strength.

The Defender absorbs all collisions up to a height of 0.4 metres, regardless of which direction they come from. The body of the protector absorbs all of the force, so the anchor plate and the anchors are not pried loose. As a result, the risk of damage to your concrete floor is minimised. If the

• Verborgener Schaden ausgeschlossen

Defender itself is damaged, it can simply be unscrewed and replaced. The Defender can handle multiple collisions and it is therefore not necessary to replace it after every accident.

Three grades of strength

In a quiet warehouse, with wide aisles and experienced drivers, the risk of damage is many times smaller than in a hectic warehouse with inexperienced temporary workers. For this reason, NEDCON offers three grades of collision protection. Choose the Defender that suits the level of risk in your warehouse:

• The Defender 800 is strong enough to resist a collision of 800 Joules. That is twice the European EN 15512 standard guideline and therefore an excellent choice if you want to meet this standard.

• The Defender 1500 provides realistic protection from the glancing blows and collisions common in day-to-day warehouse work. This protector can handle multiple collisions of 1500 Joules before requiring replacement.

• The Defender 3000 is the strongest collision protector available. Specially designed for warehouses at high risk of forceful collisions. For example, heavy warehouse trucks or fastdriving forklift trucks. This protector can handle multiple collisions of 3000 Joules.

Frame Protectors

IN A WAREHOUSE WITH FORKLIFT TRUCKS, THE CORNER UPRIGHTS ARE ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE. THAT IS WHY FRAME

PROTECTORS ARE REQUIRED BY THE EUROPEAN EN 15512 STANDARD. NEDCON’S FRAME

PROTECTORS GUIDE FORKLIFT TRUCKS THAT PASS AT A CLOSE DISTANCE AND ABSORB THE FORCE OF COLLISIONS.

The frame protectors are free-standing, so that collisions have no effect on your racks. They are designed to optimally distribute forces. Your concrete floor will also remain undamaged. The frame protectors are fixed to rubber anchor

blocks that absorb the energy of collision and leave your floor intact. Damaged frame protectors can be replaced quickly and easily without significantly hindering your logistical processes.

Collision risk

If you would like to protect the entire side of your racks, then combine the corner protectors with a horizontal sigma profile. Frame protectors are supplied as standard in striking yellow and black, but are also available in all RAL colours. For racks that are at high risk of collisions, NEDCON has additional protection for the other uprights, such as stiffeners and the sturdy Defender, that can absorb up to 3000 Joules of collision energy.

Stiffener

IN EVERY STORAGE AREA WHERE FORKLIFT TRUCKSARE USED, COLLISION DAMAGE IS AN EVERPRESENT DANGER.

NEDCON offers various options to protect your racks from this danger, such as the stiffener. The stiffener is a cost-effective, robust and cleverly designed guide profile for your uprights.

Like a shin guard, the stiffener absorbs the impact when a forklift truck - easily weighing in at 4.5 tons - accidentally collides with a rack. The length and profile have been designed to ensure that the force of the

collision is optimally distributed in the rack, thus minimising damage. The connection between the stiffener and the upright is equally ingenious: the bolt holes are integrated into the profile in such a way that they are almost impossible to tear or break. Another major advantage.

NEDCON stiffeners are easy to attach to all NEDCON uprights. They are supplied as standard in orange (RAL 2008), but other colors are available.

Shelving system

THE NEDCON SHELVING SYSTEM IS AFFORDABLE SOLUTION FOR THE STORAGE OF A WIDE VARIETY OF SMALL GOODS.

Roy Robson in Lüneburg

ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF LÜNEBURG, ROY ROBSON HAS BUILT A NEW WAREHOUSE THAT HAS BEEN OPERATIONAL SINCE APRIL 2018. THE SUITS, JACKETS, TROUSERS ETC. OF THE MENSWEAR BRAND HANG IN THIS WAREHOUSE. IF ALL 75,000 INHABITANTS OF LÜNEBURG WERE MEN, THEY COULD DRESS COMPLETELY WITH WHAT ROY ROBSON HAS STORED HERE AT 90 BY 90 METERS. MOST OF THE PRODUCTION TAKES PLACE IN THEIR OWN FACTORY IN IZMIR, TURKEY. ONLY SHIRTS, KNITTED PRODUCTS, TIES AND SOCKS ARE STORED LYING, THE OTHER PRODUCTS ARE ALL TRANSPORTED AND STORED HANGING.

The location is designed for both hanging and lying goods. The steel structures are designed by our engineers and they have made a telescope construction for every loading port. In an endless loop this construction leads one metal trolley behind the other to the back of the truck. We have

laid 13.5 kilometers of chromed steel pipes inside the warehouse for hanging garments and we have assembled the tubes from units up to six meters long. With this, we were able to meet the specific wishes of Roy Robson. “It must slide smoothly”, the managing director of Roy Robson Logistics GmbH had specified. This refers to the edge - and therefore smooth transition between the individual components. “If our employees simultaneously push forty or more parentheses over the tubes, they can not touch the seams.” Before the production of the steel pipes began, we built a test

construction for Roy Robson. Precision was also required by constructing the floorboards. 5,000 square meters of gauze and 10,000 square meters of chipboard were used. We have guided the project from the first sketch to the last screw. According to Thomas Drexler, there are few companies in Europe that work at the level we require. ‘’After we had visited two NEDCON projects, we were convinced that they were the right partner. If we could do the project again, we would do it with all parties that were involved’’, according to Drexler.

Even a great plan is just a plan… until you make it real

Roy Robson had specific wishes regarding the steel tubes to which the garments had to hang. “It must slide smoothly”, the managing director of Roy Robson Logistics GmbH had specified. The tubes must connect seamlessly so that the employees can easily push forty or more hooks over the tubes at the same time.

We have developed a tailor-made coupling plate after extensive research and built a test setup with chromed steel tubes in our Innovation Centre.

We have delivered a construction with 13.5 kilometers of chromed steel pipes and tailormade coupling plates for hanging garments. The tubes are assembled from units up to six meters long and meet the specific wishes of Roy Robson.

TGW Systems, Groveport, OH

THE EFFICIENCY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN A COMPANY’S SUCCESS. AN INDISPENSABLE LINK IN THAT CHAIN IS THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER. ESPECIALLY SINCE THE EXPONENTIAL GROWTH OF E-COMMERCE (ACCELERATED BY THE PANDEMIC) HAS SET NEW STANDARDS FOR DELIVERY TIMES. WE EXPECT OUR PACKAGE THE NEXT, OR MAYBE EVEN THE SAME DAY.

One DC for different sales channels

TGW Systems helps companies meet those expectations. They do that with highly automated, efficient and future-proof intralogistics systems. TGW applied those systems to a new, state-ofthe-art distribution center for a major American clothing brand. That distribution center is in Groveport, Ohio. Thanks to smart technologies, both online orders and retail orders can be processed at lightning speed from this single facility.

Features of this project

NEDCON and TGW share a long history and for this project, too, we joined forces. NEDCON’s share of this impressive distribution center consists of:

24 aisles of racking with a total storage capacity of 480,000 plus cartons.

Different techniques in perfect harmony Are you, like us, a fan of:

• robotic sorters;

• ingenious conveyors;

• and cranes racing swiftly up and down aisles, reaching great heights.

Then this video of the end result is more than worth watching:

PLUS Deventer

IN EARLY 2022, THE MERGER BETWEEN PLUS AND COOP TOOK PLACE AND PLUS HOLDING B.V. WAS ESTABLISHED. THE COOPERATIVE FOOD RETAIL ORGANIZATION, WITH A NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF ABOUT 550 STORES, HAS A MARKET SHARE OF 10%. MAKING IT THE THIRD SERVICE SUPERMARKET IN THE NETHERLANDS.

In Deventer, we worked on a new, modern and sustainable distribution center for the delivery of PLUS’s fresh products. This new DC will completely replace the existing fresh distribution center in Deventer. The building is 77,000 m² in size and stands on a plot of over 13 hectares, making it three times the size of the current distribution center.

For their new DC in Deventer, PLUS was looking for a solution for the storage of pallets, including a long walkway across the building suspended above the racking.

Partners

During this project we collaborated with the contractor HVBM. They were still responsible for the building during our assembly period. We also had a lot of coordination with the sprinkler supplier Kemkens because of the in-rack sprinkler that had to be used throughout the racks.

Natec Veghel and Den Bosch

NATEC IS A LEADING WHOLESALER OF SOLAR PRODUCTS THAT HOLDS A PROMINENT POSITION IN THE DUTCH MARKET. THE COMPANY SERVES SOLAR INSTALLATION COMPANIES AND OFFERS

A WIDE RANGE OF SOLAR PANELS, INVERTERS, BATTERIES AND INSTALLATION MATERIALS.

Natec started in 2004 in a 20,000 square meter warehouse and has now grown to two locations, in Den Bosch and Veghel. NEDCON was allowed to supply the racking for both locations. The logistical concept, including the choice of racking type, was developed by Eilogic, a consulting firm, on behalf of Natec and supervised as a project.

Our partner MEGA magazijninrichting supplied and installed the undercarriages including floor rails on which our pallet racking was placed.

Even a great plan is just a plan.... until you make it real

In Den Bosch, Natec was looking for an efficient storage system for solar panel pallets with non-standard sizes and relatively high weights for bulk storage. The question was how to efficiently manage and store large quantities of products. In addition, Natec was looking for a storage system for their storage location in Veghel for storing longitudinal goods including Alu profiles.

In Den Bosch we installed a pallet racking with a storage capacity of 9520 pallet places on mobile trolleys from MEGA warehouse equipment for maximum storage capacity. In Veghel we installed a pallet racking with a storage capacity of 16564 pallet locations and cantilever racking with a total of 882 cantilever arms.

NEDCON Test department

We are proud to present, the NEDCON Test Center. For more thant 30 years, we have been testing components in our own lab. Since 2000 literally in-house in Doetinchem. Thanks to the Test Department, we possess knowledge that is unique in our sector and we use it to improve your storage systems. Rack construction is a separate branch of science within the field of steel construction. In many cases, there are no mathematical models available to calculate the properties of rack components to a sufficient degree of accuracy. That is why we started doing our own tests. How does thin-walled perforated steel behave in practice? And how much force can the connections cope with? We have extracted a wealth of information from these tests, which we document and input in our mathematical models in order to design racks. This helps us to keep improving our products.

In the test center, we conduct the following tests:

1. Heavy structural tests, such as bending tests, collision tests and fatigue tests, to investigate the strength of the material or the construction.

2. Functional tests: how does a component or structure behave under normal use in the longer term?

3. Fast prototyping: we also use our test center to test designs. This saves a lot of time and calculation work.

TEST DEPARTMENT

We developed a lot of our testing equipment in-house. Such as our hydraulic loader for load and bending tests, and our impact tester, the forklift simulator. We also purchased measurement equipment from HBM, a leading supplier of measurement instruments. The tests must be validated. That is why we work with experts that independently determine whether our test setups meet the relevant standards. These experts are the Technical University of Dortmund and Büro Dr Möll. In addition, we have our measurement instruments calibrated annually.

Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung certification (abZ)

Thanks to the validated outcomes and results from our tests, we are also eligible for an abZ certification for the German market. With the test results, we can show that our storage systems meet the strict German construction standards.

NEDCON Production

UNDER OUR MANAGEMENT. INCLUDING PRODUCTION. AT OUR 28,000 M² PRODUCTION LOCATION IN PARDUBICE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC, APPROXIMATELY 200 EMPLOYEES ARE WORKING 24 HOURS A DAY TO MAKE YOUR RACKS. AN IMPRESSIVE PROCESS THAT WE WOULD BE PROUD TO SHOW YOU. YOU ARE MOST WELCOME.

Quality steel

The production process starts in the production hall. Here profile lines shape steel of exactly the right quality from profiles into racks. Our welders then attach the hooking head plates and other accessories. The components then go through our spraying booth and are given a powder coating. They can be given any RAL color, including your house style color. Our quality control staff in Pardubice monitor the quality of the components, so that they always meet your high standards. We produce just in time. The rack components arrive at your site when we start installation.

Central in Europe

The products that come off the conveyors are checked for the required tolerances and the quality of their welds. We also test the powder coating. We constantly monitor shape and thickness with 3D devices because every millimeter counts, especially in case of automated systems. Because we produce just in time, the racks never stay in our warehouse for long. Every year, 3,000 trucks and containers leave Pardubice to go to customers all over the world.

Central in the USA

Starting from February 1st, 2024, our brand-new production facility in Shelbyville, KY, is up and running. The facility is equipped with the latest technologies and the highest industry standards. Our dedicated team of experienced local roll formers is working hand in hand with our European colleagues to fully manage the operations. This move allows us to strengthen our manufacturing capacity in the USA, ensuring top-notch quality, reliability, and service.
