Oak works to ensure students and families feel welcome and safe in our school. All staff receive training in the latest safety procedures. About Our School

BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

Oak has adopted a social emotional learning curriculum that focuses on creating classrooms where students communicate, cooperate, develop strong relationships, embrace diversity, and resolve conflicts. Teachers also develop coordinated classroom management plans that are designed to support student academics, engagement and responsibility. Throughout the year we conduct regular meetings on how to recognize and address bullying, harassment and safety concerns. In additon all Oak students recieved weekly classes focused on social and emotional learning topics with our school counselor. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Our school offers a variety of activities both inside and outside of the student day for students and families to join. During the day students have class weekly in Music, PE, and Social and Emotional Learning. In addition we also offer many activities outside of the students day for families to join in including: Oak Hiking Club, Family Fun Runs, and PTA sponsored family nights.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

Our school strives to engage families by providing a welcoming atmosphere for all. We encourage parents and family members to volunteer, we offer language supports for non-English speaking families and there are additional opportunities to be involved through our parent-teacher organization. Our school also holds a variety of family events throughout the year. We strive to foster open communication with families through our school and district websites, newsletters, and various methods of communication between staff and families.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We partner with local businesses/agencies to provide students with additional learning opportunities: Local Museums, Albany Community Pool, Police and Fire, the City of Albany, the Boys and Girls Club and YMCA. The following community partners provide additional support for our families and school: Albany Rotary, School Resource Officers, FACT, and Linn County Mental Health. Additionally, we partner with our Parent Teacher Club to offer a variety of family activities such as: Bingo, family nights, field trips and end of year celebrations.

Students whose behavior is found to be in violation of this policy will be subject to discipline, up to expulsion. Retaliation against any person who reports, is thought to have reported, files a complaint or otherwise participates in an investigation or inquiry is also prohibited.

Any student or guardian of a student who has been harassed, intimidated, or bullied in violation of this policy is encouraged to immediately report the concern to a trusted adult or the building administration. Any volunteer who has knowledge of conduct in violation of this policy is encouraged to immediately report his/her concerns to a teacher or building administration. This report may be made anonymously.

Our school believes that parent involvement is a key to our students’ success. We strive to partner with our parent community in various ways to ensure a strong home/school connection. Our school communicates with parents via ParentSquare messages, emails, phone messages, district/school websites, and Facebook pages. Back to School Night is held in August and Parent Teacher Conferences are held in November. Twoway communication is valued and parents are encouraged to call, email, or meet with teachers, counselors, or school administrators with concerns and ideas. Written communication is translated and interpreters are available at parent meetings and school events for our Spanish speaking families.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Our schools are more successful because of the community believing in our youth. We have working partnerships with various businesses, bring in speakers to talk about career and college readiness, and instill in our students that being part of a community is for the greater good.

In addition, we have concerts, parent clubs, drama performances, mentoring programs, and other forms of community involvement that are enriching for our students and fun for our community.

About Our School

ADVANCED COURSEWORK

South Albany High School offers multiple advanced courses. We offer several traditional AP courses, as well as we have an articulation agreement through Linn Benton Community College, Portland Community College, and Klamath Community College where students can earn college credit by taking courses at SAHS, called College Now. We offer more College Now courses than any other school in the Willamette Valley. We also offer several comprehensive CTE programs that are awarded college credit. Lastly we have an agreement with Linn Benton Community College under the Expanded Options Programs so students can take classes at the college for free.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION

South Albany High School offers many CTE opportunities for our students and created two new pathways in the 2022/2023 school year. Most of these programs are articulated through an area community college in order to earn college credits by taking courses at SAHS:
