Immerse yourself in this season’s hottest trend, Golden Hour Glow, inspired by the gradience of tones seen at Golden Hour sunset, this technique is designed to blend a feeling of wellness with chic, on-trend color results.
The period of time just after sunrise or just before sunset when the light is infused with red and gold tones.
Originating as a photography trend Golden Hour refers to the brief window of time around sunrise and sunset, the sun is lower and casts a softer light providing fusions of color and veils of light and shade, during this time everything will glow.
Golden Hour, with it’s impressive aesthetic has been used as the backdrop for many high profile fashion shows. Reflected in the fabric with gentle gradience patterns or metallic accents.
Evoking feelings of warm summer nights and casting a golden glow to all that it touches.
Evolving from the “no makeup” makeup trend, Golden Hour makeup is about enhancing glow and layering textures for a look that exudes health and radiance. It focuses on glowing skin or playful sunset tones and luminous golds.
Moving through 2024, we witness a shift from the Y2K beauty trends that dominated 2023.
While 2023 celebrated the bold comeback of vibrant, chunky highlights and striking color-blocking looks, the 2024 trend takes a softer turn. Embracing a return to warmer, glowing tones, this year’s aesthetic is characterized by subtle transitions that delicately warm up and melt down across all brunettes.
Blondes, on the other hand, embrace a radiant golden hue that plays beautifully with peach or blush accents.
Time to welcome WELLA COLOR GRADIENCE.
The Wella color gradience technique was born from the minds of two innovative Italian hair artists.
With years of editorial and creative experience, they turned the Golden Hour trend into a practical salon service concept. This service brings a touch of high-fashion trend to everyday beauty.
Wella Professionals Style Director ITALY
“My inspiration comes from observing the variations in the sky in transition from day to night. The shades vary depending on where in the world you are with differences between colors, intensities and warm and cool nuances.”
“The desire has shifted from neutral nuances to warmer tones. For a client with olive skin tone, the successful transition to achieving a balance in the skin tone is facilitated by using warm shades and pairing them with slightly cooler tones to achieve a warm yet not overly pronounced effect.”
Alessandro Galetti
Wella Professionals Color Director ITALY
Golden Hour is more than just aesthetic, it creates a feeling of warmth and peace often leaving you feeling relaxed and content.
Use a holistic approach during consultation, consider your clients day to day, time constrictions when recommending a service, is there something you could do as part of a salon service that would save them time at home? Is there a product you could recommend to make their regimen easier?
Wellness trends are growing with awareness for mental and physical health becoming a priority for many, it’s important to remember that for some a hair appointment is one of those key moments in the calendar for self-care and indulgence.
For most, the time at the shampoo bowl is the most sacred salon ritual. This is your golden opportunity to create a moment of serenity with a relaxing head massage, and great smelling products.
“A beautiful color palette full of tonalities that you would see in a sunset or sunrise that are gradient and blend seamlessly.”
“For the most seamless blend, by applying color to damp hair the water can aid in the melting process. After applying the multiple shades I like to go over the line of demarcation using a finger blending technique multiple times as it processes.”
“This trend is super flattering and soft. The effect can be done in a range of shades to complement their skin tone. The warmer glow is right on trend and will bring them right up to date.
I like to visually show them with a color swatch and inquire about what tones make them feel confident and comfortable.”

London Hairdresser of the Year
“Color gradience is all about pairing the right shades together to create the perfect harmony of light and dark in a warm palette for illuminations that resembles a warm sunset. From a hairdresser perspective, this involves introducing a root shadow that could potentially increase frequencies.”
“I would sell this technique as a seamless blend between two colors to create dimension in the hair, mimicking the shadow from a Golden Hour glow. Using words like fused, blended, soft, melted and gradience will really help bring this to life to a client during the consultation process. ”

The palette is inspired by the time shortly after sunrise or just before sunset, when the daylight is warmer and softer. Nature’s soft lighting makes your skin look dewy and sun kissed.
With major trend forecasting agencies all announcing warm shades as the “color of the year”, tones of gold, peach, bronze and hints of pink have never been more relevant.
Add a hint of rosé / blush will make the palette suitable for even cooler skin tones.
This trend is all about celebrating the highs and lows of tone and a Shinefinity glaze is the perfect way to get this look. A palette of natural golds plus a rosé booster shade with ZERO lift and ZERO damage creates high shine results.
Why should you add gold to your blonde formulas? Well, a few reasons.
When using cooler shades on highly porous hair, the hair will absorb the cool tones, which may result in a deeper or more drab result.
Gold / warmer tones are also often perceived brighter so if you want to keep your blondes bright, add soft golds!

Luminescent hair is influenced by hues of gold, caramel and honey with a modern blended aesthetic.
Sunlit bronze tones with different levels of clarity will add life to any brunette.
Master the technique with 4 easy principles
Full head for impact or partial for express.
Create your blended palette of 2-4 shades.
Play with tones and different gradience for personalized effects.
The key is in the blend, for a seamless flowing color.
This will create a bigger impact of color. The color palette can be natural or expressive to suit any individual.
EXPRESSIVE COLOR GRADIENT
NATURAL COLOR GRADIENT
Express technique focusing around the face. A great way to introduce a gradience or create a faster service for your clients. Place it hidden for the color shy client.
2-4 shades are needed for this technique to create seamless blends. Ensure your shades are no more than 2 depths apart, this allows for smoother transitions.
TIP: every time you blend a shade a new shade is created.

Level 7 at the mid-lengths

Level 9 at the ends
Once you have decided about the placement and shades it’s time to think about the gradience.
Personalize the color gradience technique by transitioning from darker, more tonal roots into lighter, pastelized ends.
Introducing a darker or more tonal shade after the lighter shade maximizes creativity within your gradience look and helps create the illusion of a sunkissed glow.
Now this is what takes the service from ordinary to outstanding: putting the skills of the hairdresser in the center. With a few simple tips every color savvy hairdresser can master the blend.
Once the color is applied, angle your brush and slightly push your color into the next color.
For straight hair, a comb can be used in the transition area.
Blend using the palm of your hand or fingers. This can be great for curly hair or if you have big differences between shades.
An added challenge can be to create a beautiful blend on curly hair, here are some top tips from Richelle.
RICHELLE LIZARRAGA Associate Director, Brand Education North America
When color blocking or creating an ombre effect, use either zig-zag sections or diagonal sections that are slightly offset. By avoiding strong horizontal and vertical lines, you will avoid “chunks” of color throughout the head. Curls tend to clump together, making sections of color appear bolder than intended.
To create a seamless gradation of color, use a color brush to apply the color, and then follow with your fingers to gently overlap your shades. This creates a subtle blend without creating mechanical damage by frequently combing.
Curly hair absorbs and refracts light due to the peaks and valleys that curls create. By adding a glaze or gloss to the hair, we can add sparkle to restore shine.
Warming shades of natural golds and subtle peach undertones create a warming sunset feel. Bursts of pink shades make the gradience more striking.
