2024 Competition

EC&M established the Product of the Year Competition in 2001 to recognize excellence in new product development in the electrical industry. More than two decades later, this prominent awards program continues to showcase the most innovative products of the past year, recognizing the talent and commitment of those involved with all aspects of development. EC&M is honored to bestow these awards on inventive products

Products eligible for this year’s contest were those introduced to the market between Jan. 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2023. Out of the 123 product entries received, a panel of industry expert judges narrowed down the field as part of phase one of the competition. Ranking each product based on a uniform list of scoring criteria, the group ranked each entry, ultimately identifying 30 category winners (view the entire list on page 2) based on innovation and the ability to save end-users time and enhance productivity.

These 30 finalists will now compete for the 2024 Platinum, Gold, and Silver awards, which will be determined by EC&M subscribers in an online voting process administered on the EC&M website (www.ecmweb.com) beginning May 19. It can be hung from the ceiling as a pendant with the included stainless steel aircraft cables, flush mounted against the ceiling or on a wall, or placed into the plenum itself. The luminaire comes with variable direct/indirect lighting settings: 100% downlighting, 50/50 downlighting/uplighting, and 70/30 downlighting/uplighting.

PENDANT LUMINAIRE

The Slate pendant measures 15/8 in. deep, easing installation. The slim luminaire, which features a built-in mini driver, is available in lengths from 2 ft to 8 ft in ½-ft increments. The luminaire can serve as a stand-alone luminaire with separately controlled direct-indirect optics. The Cat IV-rated device consists of two parts: a transmitter, which generates a signal and sends it along the wire, and a receiver, which detects the signal in AC or DC current. The product features different modes and functions to give electricians the flexibility to troubleshoot a wide range of electrical wiring and circuitry problems. It is designed to protect electricians from spikes up to 8,000V that can occur in industrial and utility environments where critical equipment cannot be taken offline. The UL-listed Type LNMP-food grade conduit now features a flexible PVC jacketing, which contains an antimicrobial biocide, and offers a wider temperature range from -37°C to 105°C. The flexible liquidtight, nonmetallic conduit is also made with a new food processing blue jacketing, which helps for identification in a food processing environment. The floodlights are designed for use in hazardous and non-hazardous industrial environments. All models are 25% smaller and 10 lb lighter than their predecessors while providing up to six times longer life and a 78% reduction in power consumption compared to equivalent HID floodlights, according to the company. Each design includes removable covers for LED engine and driver compartments to enable faster installation and easy access to wiring and field maintenance as well as plug-andplay wiring and multiple flexible mounting options.

The TruCurve plaster-in 24VDC LED system bends left to right, allowing for curved, organic shapes to be designed on any flat ceiling or wall plane. It recesses into ⅝-in. drywall with no joist modification required. The specified curved design is custom built and shipped to the job site as a preformed kit. A built-in adapter allows for adjustment of the UMIAB-35 boxes from ½ in. to 1½ in. and the UMIAB-25 boxes from ½ in. to 1¼ in., ensuring devices sit flush with wall surfaces. BODY BELT

The 6-D adjustable body belt features a low-profile construction and functionality that reduces surface area and overall weight. With the addition of the multi-hole D-ring, the 6-D belt provides numerous points of connection for both a primary (WPFR) and secondary lanyard(s) that allow the user to climb, work, and transition in several different configurations. The 2½-in. offset connection points prevent the WPFR device and secondary lanyard from binding on each other, and the center connection point provides the user with a larger area to connect and disconnect a secondary lanyard. The belt also offers an adjustable person-rated belt strap and an adjustable work positioning D-piece that allows the user to customize the size and feel of the belt. Y2 adjustment buckles on the D-rings and belt strap eliminate slippage during use.

Recessed AV in-wall boxes are designed to enable data connection and power access in one location. The box design features a 2-in. conduit feedthrough with concentric knockouts to run connected cables from a floor box to a monitor and up to a ceiling box.
