Trustee Williams is the Assistant Superintendent of Operations at Edgewood ISD, where he is a dedicated leader overseeing a wide range of key services within the Division. For Williams, becoming a trustee is a meaningful way to give back to the profession he loves by ensuring the retirement system remains strong for future generations. His experience in education and the community brings valuable insight into the unique needs of TRS members. He describes his role as a trustee as both an awesome responsibility and a great honor.
Q: What does it mean to be a trustee? How does the board contribute to the overall administration of TRS?
A: Being a trustee means serving as a fiduciary responsible for overseeing the retirement and health care benefits of over two million members. Trustees play a critical governance role by ensuring that the system is managed effectively, transparently and in the best interests of its members.
Q: How do trustees work with TRS staff to ensure the needs of TRS members are met?
A: One of the most remarkable aspects has been working alongside the outstanding TRS staff. Their expertise, professionalism and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in driving meaningful progress. Whether it is providing comprehensive analysis, preparing thoughtful recommendations or answering member concerns with care and clarity, they consistently go above and beyond. Their efforts ensure that board members have the information and tools needed to make informed decisions that truly benefit our members. I feel privileged to work with such a talented group of professionals who share a common goal of protecting and enhancing the financial futures of Texas educators.

Q: Can you share any memorable experiences or achievements during your time as a trustee?
A: One of the most memorable and impactful experiences has been serving as the Benefits Committee Chair and having the honor and pleasure of witnessing the Governor sign Senate Bill 10 into law. SB 10 authorized Cost of Living Adjustments for eligible retirees. Hearing from members who directly benefited from this adjustment has been especially rewarding. Their gratitude underscores the importance of the decisions we make as trustees. Moments like these remind me why I chose to serve and how
impactful our work can be for educators and retirees across Texas.
Q: How has being a board member impacted you?
A: It has been one of the most rewarding and transformative experiences, both personally and professionally. It is a unique opportunity to contribute to something larger than myself. I have gained valuable insights into governance, auditing, strategic planning, and decision making at one of the largest and most complex retirement systems in the nation.
Q: Any final thoughts for members who might be interested in a position on the board?
A: This role is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of fellow educators. It requires dedication, integrity and a willingness to learn, but the rewards of serving are immeasurable.
