Welcome to the first edition of the Heathcote Holdings In the Loop newsletter. The newsletter has been a success in Countrystyle and we believe it’s a way of bringing all the group together to share news, accomplishments and improve engagement.

Heathcote Holdings has driven some great success stories, with more collaborative working across companies, better customer understanding, wider knowledge, better efficiencies but also a better culture. It’s lovely to see and hear people talking together and working as a team.

We still have a distance to go with Heathcote Holdings to really release the opportunity both culturally and financially.

We are a larger business now, in an ever changing world around technology. In some areas more than others we see the increased pressure to develop our customer offering to a more IT literate interface including apps and portals. Embracing this is a

must if we want to keep developing to move forward. We have always invested heavily back into the group on machinery and assets, we now believe there is a bigger push to invest in our systems and technology. This will allow us to get almost real time data enabling us to make the right decisions, e.g using the data to give more visibility of what is going on as well as expecting accountability.

We must be sustainable and our environmental impact is something we are working to improve on, recruiting a company called Planet Mark. We want to get our baseline and focus on how we improve our own carbon footprint.

We have seen some charity work take place across the group. We can only ever do more of this. Thank you for the people who have been helping to organise these events.

People are what allows us to keep growing at pace. We see more young people today engaged and passionate about the business which is lovely to see. But don’t forget the experience

that is the guiding light developing and motivating our people.

We believe we are involved in great sectors across the group with large growth potential, unlocking this potential is all down to engagement, strategy and implementation.

The opportunities are coming at us thick and fast across every sector, and we are in a position to capitalise on the right ones. So let’s get together, inspire, help, push each other and see what we can create for our next generation

FGS Pilcher Update FGS Pilcher Intro FGS Pilcher are experts in land drainage, earthworks, groundworks, construction and habitat management. We use specialist equipment to provide a bespoke service for our customers which include farmers and landowners, conservation organisations, utility companies, vineyards and more.

Wetland Creation FGS Pilcher has recently undertaken a 91-acre wetland creation project for habitat enhancement on a site that is recognised as a special protection area (SPA) & Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Using our excavators and tracked dumpers we undertook works that included the creation of large scrapes, foot drains and bunding. These elements will facilitate the re-wetting of the grassland site. Hopefully the area will now truly thrive as a sanctuary for breeding and wintering wildfowl and waders, water voles, rare invertebrates and plants.

New Trencher FGS Pilcher have recently taken delivery of our new selfpropelled Mastenbroek Trenching machine. The machine is fitted with dual speed motors to maximise torque across the digging chain speed range enabling trenches up to 2 meters deep to be dug in various soil conditions. The trencher is also fitted with onboard GPS which, combined with FGS Pilcher’s existing site surveying system, enables accurate installation of land drains, waters pipes and electrical ducting.

Vineyard Services FGS Pilcher has undertaken land drainage and trackway installation and reinstatement for vineyards for many years but is now undertaking a wider variety of works for vineyard customers. We have recently completed the construction of parking areas and machinery washdown bays, as well as the erection of buildings and construction of reservoirs and lagoons. We have also installed rainwater harvesting systems and undertaken specialist works such as aerating.

FGS Organics Update FGS Organics Intro FGS Organics are agricultural soil improvement specialists who undertake the supply, haulage and application of fertilisers to land. We offer cost effective and sustainable solutions to enhance soil health and productivity. The application of products is matched to the requirements of each customer with FGS Organics providing a complete service to cover all aspects of the process.

Additions to our Fleet Exciting news - our fleet has recently expanded with the inclusion of two brand-new DAF artic lorries and a range of operator vans. These additions signify our commitment to growing our business and serving our expanding clientele.

What is Digestate?

FGS Organics are specialists in the supply and spreading of digestate biofertiliser for farmers. But what is digestate? In simple terms, digestate is the leftover material after organic waste is broken down by bacteria. It is a nutrient-rich residue that can be used as fertiliser to improve soil quality and support plant growth.

Access Solutions One of our services which is increasing in popularity is our temporary access trackway. Our trackway boards are used by a range of customers from farmers to event organisers. The boards are capable of bearing loads up to 200 tonnes! They protect the ground and enable vehicle access to unstable and sensitive terrain, allowing safe movement of vehicles with efficient weight dispersal.

FGS Industrial Update FGS Industrial Intro FGS Industrial Facilities Management is a multi-skilled business capable of responding to the needs of industrial clients and their sites. We resolve customer’s problems, both short term and long term. Whether it’s a temporary fix or a more permanent arrangement, we ensure all work is compliant with regulations, so our customers don’t have to worry. We provide a quality service using skilled operators who have a range of industry knowledge, gained from years of mixed experience.

Working as a Team FGS Industrial is a great example of Heathcote Holdings companies working together. The team utilise the resources available from the other companies within the group to provide efficient and cost-effective solutions.

Additions to our Fleet We are thrilled to announce the latest addition to the FGS Industrial fleet - three new Kubota M7173 tractors!

The Kubota M7173 is built to conquer even the toughest terrain, ensuring maximum productivity on site. The FGS Industrial team will be using the tractors to provide tanker and dust suppression services as well as support for our dock operations.

FGS Plant Update Two New Acquisitions for FGS Plant

I

t’s been a very busy few months for the team at FGS Plant, with several new acquisitions under their belt, Coventry based Clements Plant & Access Hire and Dorset based Hire Access Platforms.

Moving forward, the principal goal is to build a Plant Equipment and Access Hire Group that offers first

class customer service which can operate across the UK. There will be continued investment in the best equipment to make sure that we are able to meet with the growing customer base across Coventry, Warwickshire, and the Midlands.

The Clements deal was completed on 31st March resulting in the Chairman and majority shareholder Jim Longstaff leaving the company.

Current Managing Director, Adrian Hutchinson will remain along with the rest of the team.

I believe that FGS are an excellent fit for Clements and the fact that Stuart wished to keep the team together was a fundamental factor in the decision to take advantage of their approach Commented Longstaff.

stated Stuart Willy “We see huge synergies and shared values which will benefit both teams. We are especially excited by their bespoke created digital Tee-card system, which was a factor in helping them win the 2022 Executive Hire Show Independent Passionate Hirer of the Year award. Our intention is to implement this throughout our Plant division in the coming months, with the whole Group plant divisions working closely for the benefit of the teams and its customers.” He added.

New Starters at FGS Plant FGS Plant would like to welcome Nathan Heathcote, who has recently joined the team as Group Asset Manager - wishing him well in his new role.

We are also delighted to welcome Brendan Minter who joins the FGS Plant team as Operations Director and comes to us with over 27 years’ experience in the plant and construction industry. He has a proven track record in several operational, leadership and management areas. Brendan started his career in 1996 as a Plant Hire Controller progressing on to Plant and Transport Manager, Operations Manager and for the past 8 years, Plant Director.

As newly appointed Operations Director for the FGS Plant team, Brendan will ensure the effective delivery and operational performance within the plant division. In his spare time Brendan enjoys spending time with his family, dog walking, and DIY. He has a big passion for football and spends most match days at West Ham Utd. Wishing Brendan good luck in his new role!

New Equipment for FGS Plant FGS Plant continues to invest in new equipment with the latest addition of new Bobcat Skid-steer loaders that come with a range of attachments.

FGS Agri Update FGS Agri Intro FGS Agri is a company that offers a range of services to the agricultural sector, including agricultural contracting, biosolids application, utility contracting, and farm management. The company has become a one stop shop for all outsourced agricultural services required by the livestock and arable farmer.

Office Extension After years of growth at our base in Pluckley, the office space at Stanford Bridge Farm has got a bit tight!

We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited office extension is now underway and progressing well. It’s great to witness the new office taking shape as planned and we look forward to the additional space it will provide.

Site Clearance FGS Agri continue to grow the range of services provided beyond traditional agricultural services. We now undertake site clearance work to enable land owners and developers to access sites and commence their work. Using our excavator mounted mulcher head and tree saw we have the tools perfect for clearing vegetation.

Vegetation Management We are also involved in a number of vegetation management projects. Working in partnership with FGS Pilcher and Habitat Regeneration, we are undertaking vegetation management at a large renewable energy project which will create the largest solar farm in Europe.

Also, working with sister company Habitat Regeneration, we carried out vegetation management of a downland area in Kent. We undertook scrub management by removing bramble and self-seeded blackthorn from approximately 100 acres of downland. The project’s goal is to bring livestock back into the land management system and help to promote the historic traditional chalk grassland and wildflower meadows.

Habitat Regeneration Intro Habitat Regeneration provides a practical and proactive approach to ecological enhancement and offsetting solutions. We take projects from an initial concept through to delivery and long-term management. Habitat Regeneration prides itself on providing a quality service by utilising experienced ecologists, operators and specialist machinery, to ensure project delivery which maximises ecological benefit. Services provided by Habitat Regeneration include creation of woodlands; ponds and wetlands; regenerative farming; and grassland and vegetation management.

Biodiversity Net Gain With the Environment Act 2021 Biodiversity Net Gain coming into force in November 2023 there is an ever growing need to source suitable sites to meet ecological offset requirements.

Habitat Regeneration is assisting developers and local authorities to achieve the minimum 10% gain. We have access to a number of land parcels around the South East that can be used to ensure that a genuine ecological gain is delivered.

Forestry England Contracts We have recently been awarded two Forestry England contracts for woodland creation schemes spanning 500 acres across Kent and Essex. We are excited to see how the sites develop over time, particularly the Kent site as the eventual goal is to allow public access for the local community to enjoy. Works within the contracts include quarterly site and tree health inspections, vegetation management and hedge cutting, fence maintenance and repairs.

Envar Update Envar Intro Envar processes waste streams on behalf of local authorities, commercial customers and industrial customers across the UK. We process green waste, food waste and specific organic waste to produce a PAS100 soil improver, which is supplied to farmers, soil blenders, leisure gardeners and commercial gardeners. We also supply woodland mulch and mushroom compost to gardeners and supply wood chip for large scale biomass.

Coffee Recycling Great news for coffee lovers and environmentally conscious individuals alike! Envar Composting can now help businesses recycle their waste coffee grounds. We process coffee grounds at our site in Cambridge, diverting it from landfill and enabling it to be transformed into sustainable bio-products.

Introduction of Zonesafe Envar’s operations team have successfully implemented Zonesafe across all their sites. The addition of this to our safety protocols helps keep pedestrians safe from vehicles on our sites. This proximity warning alert system minimises the risk of a vehicle-to-person collision by giving both the driver and the pedestrian an alert when both are within a set range of each other.

Investing in the Zonesafe system enables us to keep our staff safe when out working on our sites with heavy plant machinery.

Verigreen Update An Introduction to Verigreen Verigreen holds a unique position within the Heathcote Holdings group as one of leading food waste specialists covering Kent, the Southeast and the UK. Collecting all types of food from across all sectors, Verigreen converts surplus food waste from an environmental liability into a valuable energy resource.

The Heathcote Holdings Group understood the necessity for a dedicated food waste collection service and created the Verigreen business back in 2019. This service offers huge benefits to businesses as well as delivering long-term sustainability to the environment.

Verigreen and sister company Countrystyle Recycling are well positioned to pick up the food waste demand and offer customers a dedicated food waste collection service. The business utilises a network of exclusive licensed anaerobic digestion (AD) plants throughout the UK, this can minimise the distance food waste has to travel, helps reduce the carbon footprint and ensures that the energy it creates is fed back to local communities and the organic fertiliser produced goes to local farms.

In 2021, the UK Government first passed the Environmental Act on Food Waste and in 2023, this new legislation came into effect. This Act supports the commitment of the UK government towards eliminating

The surplus waste collected is processed through a network of anaerobic digestion (AD) plants.

These plants safely capture the methane emitted from waste which creates renewable biogas used

to heat and power plants or is upgraded into biomethane to fuel vehicles or be fed into the national gas grid.

The plants also produce nutrient-rich organic fertiliser reducing the need for the chemical fertilisers which have seriously negative impacts on the environment. The digestate is PAS 110 accredited which can be used on farms, horticultural enterprises and landscaping projects. This process all adds up to the best possible outcome for food waste and better than chemical composting in terms of carbon emissions.

Verigreen has had a successful start and produced some excellent results with impressive end of year sales turnover of £1.1m+ with 23% margin.

Trade News Round-up As always, the Countrystyle Trade Department has been busy and investment has continued in vehicles, with three new 32 tonne DAF trade trucks and being put into service for the Ridham Trade Operations.

We are continuing to add to our fleet with four additional new 26 tonne Scania trade trucks which are due to be delivered towards the end of July. We have also taken delivery of three new 32 tonne DAF RORO trucks.

• Bins and collection services were delivered for the Elderflower Fields festival at Pippingford Park, Nutley over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

• Collection services were provided through the May Bank Holiday weekend to the Kent Showground at Detling, for their annual Kent Garden Show, with up to 20,000 visitors attending over the weekend.

• Bins and collection services are being provided for Park Live at Mote Park, Maidstone from May Bank Holiday weekend and onwards through the summer.

• Emergency response services were provided to Morrisons’ Distribution Centre for two weeks in March, after a site fire caused the breakdown of their balers. For around 2 weeks, trade vehicles were sent to site to be continuously loaded, to help clear the site of 378 tonnes of cardboard and 23 tonnes of plastic waste which was then sent for recycling.

The Trade team was delighted to help Tonbridge School with its charity sleepout, in support of the homeless charity, Porchlight: children from the school slept out overnight, with the cardboard from their individual shelters collected by Countrystyle and sent for recycling.

New Starters and Promotions Countrystyle has recently welcomed some new faces to the Trade Department. Richard Cooper joins as Head of Logistics, with extensive knowledge of the waste management industry, and a warm welcome to Jac Young who joins as a refuse loader with our Ridham Trade team.

Congratulations to Katy Eastwood who has been promoted to Head of Artics. We wish them all well in their new roles.

HR Updates £650 raised Fundraising for the Pickering Cancer Trust based so far! in Tunbridge Wells has been very successful, and we want to thank everyone who has got involved, especially Lisa Barnes who continues to come up with fun fundraising ideas to continue to add to the donations which currently stand at over £650.00.

The Management Development Programme which has been running through Imaginarium has been a huge success.

A well done to Bexley for continued improvement of customer service KPI results.

Acknowledgement for Good Drivers Whilst we continue to improve fleet compliance standards across the business, eleven drivers have been successful in not incurring any tachograph infringements across the last 12 months (despite each having over 200 days of driving).

The Group in the Community A round up of the Heathcote Holdings Group’s commitment to social value activities across Kent, the Southeast and London.

FGS Agri North School Young Farmers Sponsorship and Farm Visit FGS Agri was pleased to welcome the North School Young Farmers to Stanford Bridge Farm this May. The children enjoyed a tour of our farm. They were especially excited to get up close to our cattle and enjoyed talks from Farm Manager Alan Higgs and local stockman Peter Corbishley. We were pleased to present them with their new jackets provided by FGS Agri which were proudly worn when they attended the Kent County Show.

Envar Stop & Grow Envar has had the pleasure of donating to, and volunteering alongside, the Stop & Grow project. This fabulous project provides an open, supportive green space and communitygrowing activities to promote well-being for residents in Harrow.

The Stop & Grow project is now aiming to come to an agreement with the Learning Disabilities Parent Forums and Harrow Association for the Disabled to offer a route into volunteering and work experience.

Envar Grow Together Envar recently donated their soil improver to Grow Together, a community project in Buckinghamshire. They aim to improve biodiversity & to protect the environment whilst enhancing the lives of members of their community. The soil improver will be put to good use at a number of community allotments, community gardens and local schools.

Countrystyle Continues as Kent Cricket Community Partners Countrystyle Recycling was delighted to be invited back as Kent Cricket Community Partners for the recent Kent Schools Day Out event held at the Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence Canterbury.

Despite an early heavy down pour, nothing was going to put off Countrystyle and the Kent Cricket Community teams delivering another spectacular day. With over 1300 children from primary and secondary schools attending from across Kent it was a busy day. The children were treated to a packed itinerary of top-class cricket, Kent taking on local rivals Surrey, a variety of activities, competitions, lots of fun, and even the sun came out providing glorious sunshine for the rest of the day.

As Community Partners, Countrystyle made sure that the students were kept busy with, lots of things to do, including the annual litter picking competition, new this year was face painting which proved a hit and the infamous Countrystyle obstacle course for those who wanted to take on the Challenge.

A big thank you to everyone at Countrystyle who helped to make the day such a success, to our friends at Kent Cricket and finally a very big shout out to the amazing Sports leaders from Simon Langton Girls Grammar School who went the extra mile to make sure the children had a day to remember.

Kent Young Farmers Visit to Stanford Bridge Farm Last month Heathcote Holdings were delighted to host Kent Young Farmers at Stanford Bridge Farm! Over 100 Young Farmers enjoyed a tour of our farm, informative talks from our team and a delicious BBQ. Thank you to our staff for sharing what we do at FGS Agri, FGS Organics, Habitat Regeneration, FGS Industrial and Countrystyle Recycling. It was great to inspire the next generation!

Viti-Culture Show Representatives from FGS Organics, FGS Pilcher and Envar attended Viti-Culture earlier this month, a show that focus’ on supplies and services directly or indirectly involved in Wine Production. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet with local wine makers and showcase the range of services provided by our group of companies to the viticulture industry.

REA Organics Conference The team from Envar and FGS Organics recently attended the REA Organics Conference at the JCB headquarters in Rocester. As well as sponsoring the event Envar joined the selection of speakers, providing details about the recent compostable product trials held at the Cambridge. A very informative day was had by all.

Next Gen Fruit Group Visits Countrystyle Recycling For a Site Tour It was an early start for the team at Countrystyle Recycling, who were delighted to welcome the NextGen Fruit Group for an informative presentation and site tour of the Ridham processing facility. Martin Heathcote and his team were on hand to provide the guests with a comprehensive insight into the world of waste management. A big thank you to all the staff who made this visit possible and, for sharing what we do at Countrystyle and our sister companies. It’s always great to inspire the next generation!

We are proud to bring young people together to shine a light on the waste industry, it’s all part of refuelling the next generation!

The Marketing team caught up with Maciey Gwizdala aka Magic who currently works as a Machine Operator at the Countrystyle Ridham site

A bit about Maciey Gwizdala aka Magic...

Magic has been working for Countrystyle Recycling for over 8 years, he started as a cleaner and quickly, after only 3 weeks progressed to a refuel driver and is now working as a Machine Operator, driving 360 diggers, shovel loaders, and tractors. He follows in this father’s footsteps André, who has worked at Countrystyle for over 17 years and is a yard operative.

What was your first job?

I left high school and got my driving licence and started to do delivery driving. When I first came to the UK, I did Fruit picking for few months, then got my job at Countrystyle.

What are the best and worst moments of your career so far?

The best thing is Countrystyle has given me a chance to improve myself and my life and there are still a lot of opportunities for me here to learn even more.

What one thing would you change about the waste /recycling industry?

Education on how to recycle properly, to show people what type of waste goes in what bin.

If you weren’t in the waste management industry, what would you be doing?

I would be a Volleyball player!

Film or Box set - what are you watching?

Netflix. I am watching the re-make of Poldark.

Where would you like to time travel to?

There’s no time like the present. Now is a good time for me.

What can’t you live without?

I better make sure I get these in the right order!

My Girlfriend Kamila, her cat Lillianna, DC and Marvel comics, and Netflix!!

What building would you like to be locked in overnight?

I would rather be in a tent high up in the mountains.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

I like to be impartial and respect other people’s opinions. I would help if someone asked me to help them.

What is the best advice you would give?

Work as a team, it better to be part of something...

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My father, we work together at Countrystyle, he still likes to keep his eye on me, to make sure I am doing my job, correctly!! Also, Trevor Heathcote - I admire, how he has built Countrystyle recycling from such humble beginnings into the success it is today.

A bit about Amelia Lee...

Amelia is currently on her placement year as part of her course at Harper Adams University studying Agriculture with Farm and Business Management. She has spent the last year working alongside the team at FGS Organics, assisting with environmental compliance.

What are the best and worst moments of your career so far?

Because I am on placement year from university working life is still very fresh, so I cannot really signify specific moments! Although when I go back to university in September, I think it will be a shock to the system going from working life back to student life!

What can’t you live without?

My dog, she is called Betty and is a wired hair dachshund and she is so cute!

What one thing would you change about the agriculture industry?

To be able to control the weather. Very unrealistic but it would make everything so much easier and make farmers feel much happier.

What would you do if you were Prime Minister for a day?

Stop the clocks going back in October. I hate the dark winter evenings!

What building would you like to be locked in overnight?

My university’s Students Union Bar! Full of my friends, music and drinks!

Film, or Box set – what are you watching at the moment?

Below Deck – very easy watching entertainment Where would you like to time travel to?

I would love to be able to go back and explore beaches across the world before they have become spoilt.

Congratulations to Vicky Russell from FGS Agri and Fiona Price (whose son works for FGS Organics) for completing the Pilgrims Way Challenge on the 10th June.

They walked an impressive 55km in the gruelling heat to raise money for Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent, so far between them they have raised a whooping £735.00.

Many of us were lucky enough to attend the fantastic Summer BBQ. It was wonderful to see so many of our staff and their families enjoying everything the BBQ had to offer.
