To ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all our students, students are taught each year, school-wide to recognize bullying and harassment, then provide strategies for intervention. Students are encouraged to speak up when they see bullying. Each year we have an antibullying program that involves our school resource officer, and each classroom signs the antibully pledge. About Our School
BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
To ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all our students, our school requires annual trainings for all staff on various topics related to student and staff safety. Our School Counselor teaches all students lessons on bullying and harassment, encouraging them to be "Upstanders, not Bystanders." All parents and students were notified that Safe Schools is available for anonymous reporting in case they do not want to report directly to the school. All reports are investigated per district policy.

Safe & Welcoming Environment
Sutherlin Middle School (SMS) has an active, positive behavioral intervention and support (PBIS) program. The PBIS program is a way for our school to encourage/teach expectations. With PBIS, kids learn about behavior just as they learn other subjects. SMS uses a curriculum named overcoming obstacles to guide our behavior instruction. Teaching expectations have been reducing behavioral incidents and providing an environment where kids feel safe. Our staff uses Jensen’s strategies to promote a positive/inclusive learning environment.

SafeOregon reporting system. SafeOregon allows for students and parents to report Bullying and Harassment. SafeOregon allows for reports to be submitted in an anonymous format. We also provide instructional opportunities through our PBIS program. Instructional opportunities offer students different ways to speak with school staff and administration. We host yearly training and discussion opportunities to help students and staff recognize bullying and harassment and provide strategies for intervention. Our PBIS Team encourages all our students to speak up when they see bullying present in our school.

Our school offers several college preparatory courses to challenge collegebound students. Those courses are:

At Sutherlin High School, we offer career and technical education courses in the woods, metals, agricultural education (FFA), computer technology, and health occupations. Our students take classes using state-of-the-art equipment, preparing them for post-high school employment. In addition, the Sutherlin CTE program partners with community businesses to stay up to date with current technologies in the industry, help students with CTE projects, host occupational field trips, and support the community through donations at charitable events.
