Axminster

At Shaw Contract Hospitality, we believe every detail of a space should tell a story, and with Axminster, the narrative is one of unparalleled luxury and performance.
Axminster represents our commitment to elevating your spaces Whether you’re designing a grand ballroom , a bustling corridor , or an intimate guest suite , our carpets create a foundation of elegance that lasts for years This is more than flooring—it’s a seamless blend of tradition, innovation, and luxury underfoot Welcome to Axminster by Shaw Contract Hospitality.

Axminster carpets have long been synonymous with luxury, durability, and intricate design.

What Is Axminster?
Originating in the town of Axminster, England, in the 18th century, this timeless technique has evolved into a globally recognized standard for high-performance carpets Axminster carpets are created by tufting wool pile directly into a woven backing This integrally woven construction ensures:
Extreme Durability: The face yarns and backing are interwoven, forming a stable structure that withstands heavy use without compromising appearance
Textural Variety: A wide range of visual textures can be created through the use of color and pattern, making it adaptable to diverse design visions
Why Shaw Contract Hospitality Axminster?
The Perfect Blend—Shaw Contract
Hospitality Axminster carpets are woven with an 80% wool and 20% nylon blend, balancing luxury and performance.
Wool provides vibrant, long-lasting color, natural resistance to static and fire, and easy maintenance
Nylon adds strength and durability, ensuring the carpet withstands heavy use while remaining soft and elegant underfoot Together, this blend creates a robust and refined flooring solution ideal for high-traffic spaces
For more than 20 years, we have been committed to the Cradle to Cradle® design philosophy, and today almost 90% of the products we manufacture are Cradle to Cradle Certified For products that aren’t Cradle to Cradle Certified, we adhere to the same principles by understanding the ingredients and their impact on both people and the planet

How to Determine Quality
When it comes to Axminster, quality is defined by origin of fiber, precision and durability rather than the traditional “ounce weight” measurement used for other carpets. Instead, row count and pitch—two metrics unique to the Axminster weaving process—set the standard for excellence.

Axminster—the ideal choice for spaces where performance and luxury are paramount.

WHY ROW COUNT AND PITCH MATTER
Higher row counts provide greater pattern clarity and durability, ensuring carpets maintain their intricate designs and vibrant colors under demanding conditions
Row Count refers to the number of yarn ends or tufts running lengthwise per inch
Pitch refers to the number of yarn ends or tufts running widthwise per inch
7 x 10 carpet has 7 yarns per inch in the width and 10 ends of yarn per inch in the length, resulting in 70 tufts of yarn per square inch
RECOMMENDED ROW COUNTS BY SPACE
• 7 Row: Designed for guest rooms, providing an elegant and cost-effective solution
• 8 Row: Suitable for corridors in 3- and 4-star properties, balancing durability with comfort
• 9 Row: Ideal for corridors and public areas in 4- and 5-star properties, where higher traffic demands enhanced durability
• 10 Row: Perfect for public spaces requiring a robust and luxurious carpet
• 11-12 Row: Engineered for high-traffic areas like casinos and high-end country clubs, where performance and luxury must coexist

Axminster carpets are perfect for high-traffic hospitality spaces, offering unmatched aesthetic and functional benefits.

Best Practices
MAXIMIZE YOUR AXMINSTER EXPERIENCE
To get the most out of your custom Axminster carpet, here are some expert recommendations to guide you through the design, production, and installation process
DESIGN AND INSPIRATION
Color Selection: Use the wool pom box early in the process to explore the full range of up to 16 colors It’s okay if you can’t find 16 colors, our CDS team can help guide you if you can provide your core palette
Pattern Size and Placement: For large public areas, opt for bold patterns that enhance the scale of the space, while smaller, detailed designs work well in intimate settings like |guest rooms or suites
PLANNING AND PREPARATION
Plan for Seams: Work with the Custom Design Studio to strategize seam placement for an optimal look, especially in large spaces like ballrooms
Confirm Dimensions: Provide accurate measurements and detailed floorplans to ensure perfect installation
Timeline Awareness: Factor in production and delivery lead times (16–18 weeks plus transit) when planning your project Allow extra time for sampling and approval

Installation and Maintenance
INSTALL STRATEGICALLY
Follow layout and seaming plans precisely to achieve a seamless look Ensure your installer is familiar with Axminster’s unique construction
MAINTAIN REGULARLY
• Wool is a natural fiber, some shedding may initially occur as fibers work their way out of the product until loose Loose fibers can easily be trimmed even with the pile
• Indentions from furniture can be easily steamed out of wool products
• Vacuum regularly without the use of beater bar
• Blot (do not rub) spills with moist white cloth using cold water Cleaning agents (wool safe products) are listed in the Carpet and Rug lnstitute’s Seal of Approval (SOA) Program (wwwcarpet-rugorg)
• Use wool-friendly cleaning practices to extend the life of your carpet and maintain its vibrant colors Regular vacuuming and prompt stain treatment are key
