We hope you are getting the chance to take advantage of our lakes, pools, and other amenities while it is warmer, and the kids are out of school! Additionally, we hope your air conditioner is in wonderful shape to keep you cool throughout our Arizona summer.
The board of directors has been progressing on multiple fronts recently, and we plan to continue forward in that manner. In our May meeting, we approved work to be done on the lake 1 bridge and La Casita. Furthermore, we are resolving the lake 3 gate valve issues. At the May meeting, we also voted in a new janitorial company to improve our service in that aspect.
“Now is not the time to kick the can further down the road”
To be straightforward with you, there are projects that have been delayed by the association for quite some time and I plan to move forward on resolving these necessary issues. Whether they were delayed due to financial constraints or due to other reasons in previous years, now is not the time to kick the can further down the road and I, as President of the Association, plan to bring these important topics to a vote in concert with the rest of our Board of Directors. Each Director has the option to vote no or abstain, but I prefer that we bring topics to a vote instead of tabling issues for extended periods of time to simply toss the decision to a later meeting.
As I write this in June, we currently have two open board seats, which includes one term until next year and one for three years. We are currently looking at candidates and evaluating who may be best for those positions. It is an honor for those of us who are on the board to serve the community, but it is not the easiest or least time-consuming role. Since we have had three board members over the past year who have joined the board before resigning 1-2 months later, we would like to be forthcoming as to what this role entails. I, as president, generally am involved with doing some work in this position every single day, and that includes Saturdays and Sundays. That can include the several meetings I go to every month, emails received and sent, communicating with our General Manager, going to events, communicating with other board members, etc. I am definitely not complaining, but do want to
give those interested in a role on the board an idea of what can come along with it. While there are committees that can be quite fun with the people involved and the topics discussed, like the Preschool and Recreation committees, there are also difficult decisions to be made. There can be attorney-client privileged information during executive sessions and I do not believe it is in the best interest of the Board of Directors or the Association to have members that join, hear very confidential information, and then leave a month or two later. We deal with past due accounts and have to make decisions regarding homeowners who are behind on dues. We may be involved in employment decisions, whether positive or negative. We may have to decide whether to mediate something or litigate it, if there is a lawsuit, and we may have to decide whether or not to file a lawsuit in certain circumstances. Without discussing any confidential information, these are some of the types of decisions we may be required to make, but there are many others as well. We also have volunteer opportunities on multiple committees, which is a commitment, but generally a much smaller commitment than being on the Board of Directors.
As some of you may have seen, the Dobson Ranch sign at Alma School and Meseto was recently damaged. This occurred during Memorial Day weekend. I was alerted by a homeowner to the situation on that Saturday and went over to discuss with the officers on the scene. An officer told me that the driver told them she went to turn and did it too late. Possibly related news, I saw what looked like a woman taking a sobriety test with other officers a couple blocks away. At this time, we are trying to work with the city to make sure the responsible driver pays for the damage. While we have maintained a positive relationship with the City of Mesa for over 50 years, it is unfortunate that it sometimes takes an extended period of time to resolve issues with them. We have plans to work with the City of Mesa on other projects to help our community move forward in a positive way and may request homeowner support to help hold our elected officials accountable to the residents they serve, if some issues are not resolved in a timely manner.
Moving forward, you will be receiving quarterly Roundups through the mail instead of monthly Roundups through email, which is a change we approved at the May meeting.
Once again, I hope you are all enjoying the summer and are staying cool! If you have any questions, you are welcome to reach out to us and come to our board meetings.

BY CHAD TURNER
We started the year by asking how to reach more residents— today, we take another step toward answering that question. Introducing the Ranchers’ RoundUp Quarterly.
What began as a desire to place more information directly in the hands of Dobson Ranch residents has grown into an opportunity to revive something that was nearly lost. The RoundUp was on the brink of becoming an online-only publication, but the voices of our homeowners brought it back. Residents emailed us, visited the office, and spoke with us at events—your concerns were heard. The revival of this publication is more than a shift in format; it’s a renewed commitment to keeping our community informed and engaged. In the article ahead, I’ll share the motivation behind the change, explain the proposal, and outline how this quarterly publication will better serve Dobson Ranch.
We knew something had to change. Either our communication methods weren’t reaching every resident—or residents were choosing not to stay informed. When multiple residents reached out to the administration office over the larger part of last year and shared that they knew very little about what was happening with the Board of Directors or upcoming events, we were surprised that our communication efforts did not have the reach we thought.
Since joining the Dobson Ranch staff in January 2024, my mission has been clear: to find more efficient and effective ways to deliver HOA information to our community. Whether that information lands in your inbox or your mailbox, that’s the starting point—because, as the saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”
“The most exciting and perhaps most meaningful element is the return of home delivery.”
The proposal submitted to the Board of Directors on May 28, outlined the long-standing legacy of the Ranchers’ RoundUp and its deep-rooted value within the Dobson Ranch community. It presented clear financial comparisons and demonstrated how switching to a quarterly publication would be both cost-effective and impactful. But the most exciting—and perhaps most meaningful—element of the proposal is the return of home delivery.
We’re genuinely thrilled to bring the RoundUp back to your mailboxes where it belongs. Our trial run with the “Mini RoundUp” was well received, but we knew it was only the beginning. It showed us what was possible and inspired us to strive for more. Through
careful evaluation, we found that while funding existed, it wasn’t being allocated in the most effective way. This new quarterly publication represents not only a financial realignment but the beginning of a stronger, more connected future for Dobson Ranch. The more we know about the HOA, City Property Management, and each other, the more we can all enjoy the benefits of our shared investment.
Staying informed strengthens the foundation on which Dobson Ranch was built. The Quarterly Ranchers’ RoundUp is not a lone hero, but it’s a dedicated force in our ongoing effort to keep every resident engaged and aware. While we don’t expect this magazine to solve every challenge, it represents progress—a step forward in bridging the gap between tradition and innovation while remaining rooted in the values that make Dobson Ranch home.
As we turn the literal pages to this new chapter, we hope the return of the Ranchers’ RoundUp to your mailbox marks more than just a change in delivery—it’s a renewed commitment to connection, transparency, and community spirit. We invite you to read, reflect, and get involved. Whether it’s attending an event, joining a committee, or simply staying informed, every small action helps shape the future of Dobson Ranch. Let’s continue building a community we’re all proud to call home—one season at a time.

As the new Compliance Coordinator and Assistant Manager at Dobson Ranch. My goal is to enhance the aesthetic appeal and curb appeal of the community to help maintain and increase property values.
As we approach monsoon season, please ensure that any fallen fruit from your citrus trees is promptly removed and that tree branches are trimmed back from your home. Maintaining your property not only keeps our community looking its best but also helps prevent safety hazards during high winds and heavy rains. Additionally, as a general guideline, any exterior modifications must be submitted to the DRAC Committee for architectural approval.
If you’re unsure whether a project requires approval, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office for clarification. We’re here to support residents in maintaining compliance and enhancing the value of our neighborhood. Regular upkeep and timely submissions for improvements help foster a cooperative and visually appealing environment.
Thank you for your attention to these matters and for your continued commitment to keeping Dobson Ranch a beautiful place to live.
-Cesar Martinez
3.
Water your plants and lawn either early in the morning or after sunset to minimize evaporation and ensure deeper soil absorption.
2.
Raise your mower blade slightly to keep grass a bit longer. Taller grass shades the soil, reduces water loss, and promotes deeper root growth.
Apply a fresh layer of mulch around trees, shrubs, and garden beds. Mulch helps retain soil moisture, reduce weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
4.
Check for leaks, broken sprinkler heads, or misdirected spray patterns to avoid water waste and ensure efficient coverage.
5. Trim Overgrown Branches
Prune trees and shrubs to prevent storm damage during monsoon winds. Keep branches clear of rooftops and power lines.
6. Use Drought-Tolerant Plants
Incorporate desert-friendly or native plants that require less water and thrive in Arizona’s summer heat.
7. Weed Control
Weeds compete with your plants for water and nutrients. Regular removal or spot-treatment can help keep them under control.
8. Fertilize Wisely
Use a slow-release or summer-specific fertilizer to support plant health without encouraging excessive growth that requires more water.
9. Protect Plants from Heat Stress
Provide shade with canopies or shade cloth for sensitive plants. Group container plants together to create a more humid microclimate.
10.Clean Up Yard Debris
Remove dry leaves, branches, and fallen fruit regularly to reduce fire hazards and keep your yard tidy and pest-free.
