HOA NEWS & UPDATES
Let’s Support Our Staff, Treat Our Neighbors Kindly, and Keep Our Community Awesome!
Hey there, Dobson Ranch neighbors!
I hope this message finds you well. Recently, there have been some concerning reports brought to my attention that I feel we should address together. Our wonderful HOA staff, who work tirelessly to maintain our community and ensure everything runs smoothly, have unfortunately been encountering some disrespect and unkindness from a few residents. Additionally, there have been instances where neighbors have been treated with rudeness and impatience. This is something we urgently need to address as a community.
Our staff members are the unsung heroes of Dobson Ranch. They work diligently behind the scenes to keep our facilities clean and functioning, address our concerns promptly, and overall, make our community a better place to live. It’s disheartening to hear that they, along

with some of our neighbors, are facing such challenges when they’re simply trying to go about their daily lives. Keep in mind that the Association is a business with employees and, just like any business, needs to follow laws and protect the privacy of its employees. All of you are part of protecting the Association’s employees, by not creating a hostile work environment.
I want to emphasize that we are all part of this community, and that means treating each other with kindness and respect, including our staff and our neighbors. A simple “thank you” or a smile can truly make all the difference in showing appreciation for their hard work.
Furthermore, let’s not forget to extend this same courtesy to our neighbors. Whether it’s picking up
after our pets, keeping common areas tidy, or addressing concerns with empathy and understanding, let’s strive to be good neighbors to one another.
If something’s bothering you, let’s talk about it. Whether it’s a concern about pet waste, noise, or any other issue, let’s communicate respectfully and work together to find solutions that benefit everyone.

I also caution people about sharing misinformation in the community. The Board has taken great strides in being transparent when it can be, including posting years of board meeting minutes and financials on its website. If you want to know about the current condition of Dobson Ranch, I encourage you to go to the Association’s website.
Together, let’s commit to support our staff and each other, and to keep Dobson Ranch the amazing community that it is. Let’s spread kindness, respect, and appreciation wherever we go, and continue to make our neighborhood a welcoming and enjoyable place for all.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
-Nicole Lynam, Association President

A Galactic Farewell: Highlights from the State of the City Address
Monthly Update from Vice Mayor Heredia
Mayor John Giles wrapped up his last State of the City Address with an intergalactic bang, painting a picture of Mesa’s dreams for the future featuring space adventures. It was quite the show, with performances from Senator Mark Kelly and Alice Cooper! Mesa’s all about pushing boundaries and moving forward, and this event was no exception.
While sharing some of Mesa’s latest achievements and its food scene, Mayor Giles also made some important announcements. Here are some key takeaways:
1. Restoration of Native American Temple Ruins: Mayor Giles announced plans to restore the name of the Mesa Grande ruins, signaling a commitment to repairing the city’s relationship with southern tribes. The temple mound, a significant Hohokam archaeological site, will undergo a renaming process in collaboration with tribal leaders and the Museum and Cultural Advisory Board.
2. Expansion of Mesa College Promise: The Mesa College Promise program, which supports high school

graduates’ tuition at Mesa Community College, is expanding to include adult learners residing in Mesa. This initiative, aimed at increasing access to higher education, has garnered widespread support and even attracted the attention of First Lady Jill Biden.
3. ASU’s Expansion: Arizona State University is set to expand its footprint in Mesa, with plans to establish the ASU Center for Creative Technology. The university will occupy the current post office space, paving the way for enhanced programs in animation, filmmaking, and video game design. The city aims to facilitate ASU’s expansion while ensuring continued service at the downtown post office.
My heartfelt gratitude to Mayor John Giles for his visionary leadership and the electrifying send-off during the State of the City Address. As we look to the future, let’s continue pushing boundaries and embracing new horizons together.

Beyond Competition: Mesa Public Schools’ Junior High Sports Program Nurtures Student Growth and Inclusivity
By Laurie Struna, Media Communications Specialist, Communications and Engagement/MPS
Junior high athletics at Mesa Public Schools are more than a competition and physical activity platform. Junior high sports are a catalyst for student growth. The lessons learned on the field extend beyond the sports arena, shaping students into wellrounded individuals who are well-prepared for life. John Huckelberry, district community education activities specialist, shares that the program, established in 2010, was created to provide an inclusive opportunity for all students, especially those who might not typically engage in such activities. “Engaging in organized sports instills a sense of purpose for students during their educational journey,” Huckleberry explains. “While some students may possess natural athletic talents, they haven’t necessarily experienced a structured setting. Athletes learn the dynamics of fitting in, responding to a coach’s guidance, adhering to team rules, traveling with teammates, and performing in front of their peers.”
Junior high athletics provides a structured avenue for regular physical activity. Whether it’s springing across the soccer field, scoring hoops on the basketball court, or engaging in strategic volleys, these activities foster cardiovascular fitness, muscle development, and overall physical well-being. This sets the stage for a lifelong commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.
Students who participate in team sports, learn the art of cooperation, communication, and teamwork. The camaraderie developed on the field extends to the classroom and fosters a sense of community, discipline, resilience sportsmanship, and the ability to persevere and contributes to teaching them to be well-rounded individuals.
For Mesa students the ability to work collaboratively towards a common goal is an essential skill embodied in the district Portrait of a Graduate, preparing students for college, career, and community.

Tony Elmer, principal at Carson Junior High School firmly believes that junior high sports helps students be part of a bigger team and that it teaches students perseverance, sportsmanship, and many essential skills needed to be a good student.
“Junior high sports play a vital role in school life,” Elmer shares. “For many students, this marks their final opportunity to be part of a team before entering high school. I encourage families to support their students as they engage in junior high sports. Students love it when their families are there to watch and support them.”
Each year, nearly 3,000 junior high students actively engage in sports. This is a significant endeavor that constantly seeks dedicated parents willing to coach, volunteer, and contribute to the program. Additionally, individuals with officiating experience or community members interested in forming partnerships and offering financial support are welcome to support students.
For more information on junior high athletics, contact John Huckelberry at 480-472-7267 or your school’s junior high assistant principal. More information is available at communityed.mpsaz.org/o/commed/ page/jha.

MESA PUBLIC LIBRARY THINKspot

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THINKspot?
Last February, Dobson Ranch Library celebrated its expansion and renovation. Thanks to Mesa voters who approved the Parks and Culture Bonds in 2018, this construction project added a THINKspot makerspace and improved and updated the façade of the building. THINKspot, a makerspace at all three Mesa Public Library locations, is a place where the community can collaborate, innovate, explore, and learn. It offers training and access to high-tech equipment and innovative classes

and programs. Specific equipment may vary by location, but each THINKspot offers a 3D printer, laser cutter, sewing machine, vinyl cutter, studio space, and an iMac with professional video and audio editing software.
To use THINKspot equipment, you must complete training, sign a liability waiver, and agree to follow the guidelines.

Dobson Ranch Library THINKspot offers:

CONSERVATION CORNER
Here Comes Spring!
Article Courtesy of Kathrine BlomquistSpring is in the air and you may find yourself outside doing a bit of yard work. I know my yard sure needs a clean-up after February’s storms. And my kids love pulling weeds. (That last part may or may not be true.)
Since up to 70% of household water is used outdoors, here are a few tips to help you save water outside the home:
• Use a broom instead of a hose to clean patios, sidewalks and driveways. This simple move can save up to 80 gallons each time.
• Check outdoor faucets, pipes, emitters, and hoses for leaks.
• Use a nozzle on your garden hose to control the output.
• Use a Smart Irrigation Controller.

Spring Fling - Save the Date - Saturday, April 20, 2024! Your Water & Lake Management and Recreation Committees are working on a fun-filled springtime event, complete with the return of the Dobson Ranch Garden Tour. Stay tuned for more information.

Dobson Ranch Pickleball Is On A Roll! Great Weather (mostly) & Great Attendance
by Rich Bitner - Recreation Committee Pickleball Representative
Pickleball at The Ranch is off to a strong start for 2024. With only a few rain-outs here and there, we are regularly using 5 or 6 Courts in our morning drop-in play, and night play exceeds that on a regular basis. We will stay on winter hours until the heat starts coming back and the sun comes up earlier. Morning “Drop-In Play” starts officially at 8 am Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, including holidays (usually), although we do have a regular cadre of players that like to start at sunrise. We also have players staying until 10:30 am or so, if you are a late starter. If you are in a rush to get to work, or not so much check us out!!
Join in and talk to your neighbors and you will surely find people to play with at various starting times, so you can easily arrange your own foursomes to play on your own schedule. Courts are open from sunrise until 10pm under the lights at our Los Altos Courts. Please contact Rich Bitner (rebitner@cs.com) for further information about morning play, to get referrals for professional instruction, and to get on our email list for announcements regarding pickleball schedules, weather issues, maintenance and other activities. Please contact Donna Ransom at donna85202@gmail.com to get on her email list for Monday and Thursday night play.
