HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Monthly Update from Councilmember Heredia
Happy New Year! As we welcome the start of a new year, I’d like to reflect on what an incredible year it has been for Mesa and our vibrant District 3 community. Serving as your City Council Representative has been an honor, and I’m proud of the milestones we’ve achieved together.
One of the highlights of the past year was the success of our Annual District 3 Toy Drive! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and partners, we raised over $7,000 worth of toys. Your contributions will bring joy to the young patients at Banner Children’s Medical Center, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible.
I’m also excited to share that the Mesa City Council recently approved the rezoning application for the Fiesta Mall redevelopment—a significant milestone for this transformative project! While an exact timeline has yet to be finalized, work could begin within the next two years. The vision for Fiesta Redefined includes:
• Up to 4,000 housing units across multiple residential communities
• Up to 1.85 million square feet of retail and commercial space
• Over 500,000 square feet of walkable and bikefriendly open space
This redevelopment will bring new life to the area, making it a more dynamic and connected hub for our community. For the latest updates, visit fiestaredefined.com, which will be regularly updated as the project progresses. If you have questions, feel free to email info@fiestaredefined.com.
Goals for the Upcoming Year:
As I look ahead to my final four years on the Mesa City Council, I remain committed to serving our community.
Here are some of my top priorities:
1. Expanding Transit Options: Enhancing connectivity and expanding transit options in high-density areas, ensuring residents have diverse and accessible transportation choices.
2. Advancing Education and Workforce Development:
As the Chair of the Education and Workforce Development Roundtable, I’m dedicated to promoting initiatives and programs that strengthen our education system by collaborating with partners, stakeholders, and the education community.
3. Enhancing Placemaking Opportunities: I’ll work closely with city staff and developers to create more walkable, bike-friendly spaces and foster connectivity within District 3.
4. Neighborhood Safety: Supporting our public safety officers and investing in initiatives that enhance neighborhood safety, improve quality of life, and foster a sense of security and well-being for all residents.
Although much of West Mesa is already developed, there are exciting opportunities for growth in key areas such as the Asian District, Mesa Riverview, and the Fiesta District. By focusing on these areas, we can continue to make West Mesa a connected, thriving, and welcoming place for all.
As always, I’m here to assist with any questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at 480-6443003 or email us at District3@MesaAZ.gov.
Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to another year of progress and success for District 3!
