ony Pictures Entertainment and Mekdoss International recently joined forces at the Oriental Hotel Lagos to unveil the host of the Nigerian version of the Pyramid gameshow.

The event was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. and kicked off at 12:30pm.

Big Brother housemate TrikyTee was the MC for the day and provided some insights into what to expect from the show. The producer, Mr. Martin Gbados, then took the stage, discussing the show while introducing the official sponsors of the show. During the announcements, it was revealed that Mekdoss has entered into a 10year agreement with Sony Pictures.

The much-anticipated moment arrived when Eyinna, a popular Nigerian actor, was announced as the new host after an extensive six-month audition process. To give the audience a taste of what the main show will entail, a mini game was played with a lucky member of the audience and Munachi Abi. The participant emerged victorious and won a brand-new air conditioning unit.

1. Start with a Skincare Routine: The foundation of the no-makeup look is a healthy, glowing skin. Proper skincare is important to achieve this. Prioritize skincare as a flawless complexion is key to the no-makeup look. Cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin daily. Use products tailored to your skin type and apply sunscreen to protect your skin. Start by cleansing your face to remove any impurities and dead skin cells. Can you share insights into the preparation and hard work that go into competing in a beauty pageant at a high level?

The entire pageant process is tasking.

There’s a whole lot of mental preparation that should come before. There are a couple of auditions and online competitions, and then there’s boot camp, where the girls are coached thoroughly on several aspects of life; there are a couple of presentations as well, where the contestants pitch ideas to a couple of partners for a prize; and then there are rehearsals for the event. Sometimes, rehearsals run really late into the night, and the contestants must be in heels. I had very sore feet during the grand finale, where I was crowned as a result of all the rehearsals.

DTNow spent a day with the former beauty queen turned entrepreneur and activist to explore the seamless blend of glamour and aesthetics in her transformative career, delving into the tapestry of her transformation.

What inspired you to enter the world of beauty pageants, and how has that experience shaped your life?

I had a vision for my life from a very early age, so I already knew where I had to be and what I wanted to do. All I needed was a platform to empower me and launch me into that space. This was my motivation. The experience completely changed my whole life. I had just moved to Lagos with nothing, and I was squatting with my friend’s cousin in a small apartment. I went from there to the Miss Nigeria camp and was moved into my own apartment after I won. My network/net worth have been greatly impacted since the pageant, and 10 years later, I still get a lot of opportunities and recognition as Miss Nigeria.

So many things were easier to achieve after I won. Some relationships were easy to build, and I had exposure, recognition, and support.

Can you share some memorable moments from your pageant journey and the lessons you learned along the way?

The pageant journey was quite intense and very tasking, to be honest, but I really enjoyed being with the other ladies contesting, and I loved to watch them interact with each other. The rehearsals for the event were also memorable, as they made me push myself beyond my comfort zone.

One major lesson I learned came from dealing with pressure. I had called my parents two days before the pageant to tell them I was quitting the pageant. My mum encouraged me to deal with whatever pressure I was facing since I had just 2 days left, and I decided to listen to her. The rest is history, but every time I wonder where I would have been today if I had quit the show then and didn’t win the pageant, this is what keeps me going whenever I am faced with pressure or the temptation to quit in my day-to-day life.

My brand, NKASSI, is a home and lifestyle brand committed to bringing luxurious comfort into your home and set to become a major designer and stockist of bed linen, towels, and homewares in West Africa. We have products ranging from bath sheets, washcloths, alternative pillows and duvets to complete bamboo bedding sets.

My plan is to fill the gap in the home and lifestyle industries by providing access to home essentials that set a new standard for comfort.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, what challenges did you face during your reign, and how did you overcome them?

My major challenge was the attention. I wasn’t used to it at all. All of a sudden, all eyes are on you and everyone has an opinion about you, how you should dress, where you shouldn’t YOU NEED TO HAVE A VISION be seen, the kind of pictures you should FOR YOUR LIFE—THE SORT post, etc. It was really OF LIFE YOU WANT FOR tiring. How do you think participating in beauty pageants has contributed to your personal and professional growth?

I didn’t have any work experience prior to winning Miss Nigeria because I had just graduated from university. Working as Miss Nigeria helped me build a work ethic and taught me how to manage professional relationships.

Let us talk about your brand, Nkassi- How did that happen, from beauty to creating a lifestyle brand? Have you always had a flair for interior design/decoration?

Since the crowning, I have gone to law school and business school, practised law, consulted for small businesses, and eventually decided to start my own company.

I have always been interested in interior design and home essentials. My vision to be a business owner guided me to what I was most passionate about.

What advice do you have for young individuals aspiring to enter the world of beauty pageants and represent a cause they are passionate about?

You need to have a vision for your life—the sort of life you want for yourself—so that when you win, you already know what you need to do with the platform to get there. The oneyear reign seems long but goes too fast, and before you have figured out what happened in the first place, it is over. A vision helps you stay focused and dedicated to the plans that get you there.

Beyond external appearances, what qualities do you believe are essential for a successful and impactful reign as a beauty queen?

She needs to be grounded. That is the only thing that can keep a pageant queen sane. It can be a crazy world because when you win a pageant, you are thrown into the limelight with nobody to catch you but yourself. It is very easy to lose focus and get carried away by all the attention and everything else that comes with the position. Staying grounded helps in this case.

How do you use your platform post-pageant to make a positive impact or contribute to meaningful causes?

Post pageant, I established an organization called ‘The Eight Foundation', which is a non-governmental organization dedicated to highlighting the issue of sexual violence against women and committed to providing survivors with the necessary support or services that they need. The foundation set up a rape crisis centre in Lagos, and through it, we were able to reach out and support a lot of survivors.

Did you have the full support of your parents when you showed interest in contesting for Miss Nigeria, considering these biases? What were their initial reactions, and how do they feel about the platform now?

I didn’t tell my parents I was contesting at first, even though I had already done the auditions and had been selected. My mum called me one day to ask me if I was doing any competition because my pastor dreamt that I had won something and my face was all over magazines and newspapers. That was when I confessed and told her that I had been selected as a Miss Nigeria contestant.

My parents were fully in support and their angle was, “Since God has already shown us the victory, who are we to be against it?” My dad also asked me if I would have to wear a bikini on stage and I said no. That was his only major issue.

Are You Breast Aware?

Family history of breast cancer and inherited genes

ctober is breast cancer awareness month, a worldwide annual campaign devoted to increasing awareness and promoting regular screening and early detection of breast cancer. Being breast aware means knowing what your normal breast looks and feels like so you can notice any changes promptly. Breast cancer is the most common cancer worldwide. Most people know of at least one person with breast cancer. Although much more common in women, breast cancer affects men too.

Mammograms (breast X-rays) are used to screen for breast cancer.

Thanks to early detection from breast screening and advances in medical technology and treatment, most women are living longer with breast cancer, as breast cancer deaths are falling. In all cancers, early diagnosis, before the cancer spreads to other organs, is associated with treatment that is more successful.

Recovery from breast cancer is good if it is detected early, with a survival rate of almost 100% at five years. This makes it essential for women to be breast-aware and take up breast screening so that cancer can be picked up before symptoms develop.

Many women are unaware of the early symptoms and signs of breast cancer. In addition, a considerable proportion of women who notice changes in their breasts do not seek medical help promptly. A 2019 study by Avon Cosmetics discovered that only 4 in 10 women were confident about what changes to look for in their breasts. Another survey showed that 1 in 4 women thought a lump was the only sign of breast cancer.

Research studies from Oxford University have shown that black women are more likely to die from breast cancer than women of any other racial or ethnic group; black women with breast cancer were more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage than women from other ethnic groups. This highlights that more work is needed to raise awareness of breast cancer symptoms and signs.

What are the symptoms and signs that you should be looking for?

Most cases of breast cancer are found in women who notice unusual changes in the breasts, followed by a visit to their doctors for an examination.

Lumps in breast, upper chest wall or underarm Change in skin: puckering or dimpling.

Change in colour: redness or inflamed.

Changes in the nipple: becomes inverted or pulled in when it usually pointed.

Nipple discharge Change in size or shape.

Women are advised to check their breasts at least once a month.

- aside from a lump, other signs of breast cancer include a change in breast size or shape, a rash or skin sores, nipple discharge, skin indentation, constant pain, or a change in skin texture. Pain alone is not a usual symptom of breast cancer unless it is always present. It is important to check the whole breast and the underarms, palpating up to the collar bones. This check could be done wherever you choose—in the shower or as you get dressed.

The technique for self-exam is known as Touch, look, check the breast: touch the breast to feel for anything unusual, such as a new lump, and look for any unusual changes on the breast, such as dimpling of the nipple or change in skin texture, then check all changes with your doctor.

Some people have a higher risk of developing breast cancer than the general population because of their family history.

A first-degree relative (mother, father, sister, or daughter) diagnosed with breast cancer doubles the risk of breast cancer. This risk is higher when more close relatives have breast cancer or if a relative develops breast cancer under the age of 50. However, most women with close relatives with breast cancer will never develop it.

People with a strong history of breast cancer in their family may have a mutation in key genes: BRCA1 and BRCA2. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are present in everyone, male and female, but a familial genetic mutation increases the risk of developing breast cancer. There is genetic testing for hereditary breast cancer, so if you have a family history of breast cancer, ask your physician for a test.

What are the risks of breast cancer?

Being female and increasing age are the most significant risk factors for breast cancer. Most women diagnosed with breast cancer are over 50 years old. Other risks include smoking, being overweight, and drinking excessively. Taking hormone replacement therapy could increase the risk of breast cancer.

Reducing a healthy weight, stopping smoking, reducing alcohol, breastfeeding, and having children can minimize the risk of breast cancer. Women with the highest risk, such as those with genetic mutations, could consider surgery or taking oral medication to reduce their risk.

Bottom line

It is crucial for women to self-examine their breasts and have any new changes checked by a doctor.

Most breast changes, including lumps, will not be breast cancer.

Early detection is crucial to fighting breast cancer.

So we went on a quest to find the best type of food to break a fast with because we understand how important food is to the body and how fasting is more common than we would like to acknowledge.

This article will guide you through the appropriate types of food to eat when breaking a fast, ensuring that you nourish your body while avoiding any digestive discomfort.

1. Start with Light and Easily Digestible Foods

When breaking a fast, it is important to begin with light and easily digestible foods. Opt for foods that are gentle on the stomach, allowing it to adjust gradually. Some suitable options include clear vegetable soups, broths, or light salads. These foods provide essential nutrients without overwhelming the digestive system.

Proper hydration is vital after a fast, as the body may be dehydrated. Include hydrating
