FOREWORD
Dear Readers,
For the past four years, every morning we’ve come to school we’ve heard the daily announcements sign o with a classic slogan. This slogan has shi ed several times throughout the years—from “Nighthawk strong, all day long” to “soar high, stay y!”. Yet every catchphrase has held the same core purpose: a reminder of our beautiful community and how important the moments we share with the people around us are. We used to think of these slogans as simple rhymes and platitudes, and sometimes we’d tune them out altogether. But we’ve now realized the value of these messages: though short and seemingly silly, they’re a valuable ode to our connection and community. As Billie Eilish sings, as “birds of a feather / we should stick together”; it’s the care and support we nd in each other that lets us ourish both as a community and as individuals.
Our high school experience has truly gone by in the blink of an eye. But if we rewind to freshman year, to that rst day of school, it’s easy to see just how much we’ve grown. In August 2021, we were nervous freshmen, just fresh out of quarantine and thrown immediately into the daunting world of high school. Now, seeing the vibrant class we are today, about to listen to commencement speeches in the same stadium we sat in 4 years ago listening to the guest speaker, it’s quite incredible to think of all the moments we’ve shared in between. During those tens of thousands of minutes and millions of seconds, we’ve experienced failures and triumphs, we’ve learned and grown, we’ve made lifelong friends and connections. In short, it’s been the journey of a lifetime.
To the non-seniors: As you continue through your high school journey, instead of glossing over those last few words of the daily announcements, take a moment to stop and actually listen. Think about the meaning of the words, think about how special it is that there are almost 2,600 other students listening to the same exact words at the same exact time as you—friends you’ve shared countless memories with over the past few years, classmates who you’ve bonded with over moments of both struggle and collaboration, and those who you’ve still yet to meet.
So as you spread your wings and prepare for your next leg on the ight of life, whether it’s the next chapter of your high school or a new place altogether, remember:
When you ock with the nest, you ock with the best :)

Dear Alena,
I cannot believe you are graduating already. It feels like just last week that we were 7 years old, getting up at 8 am to play Cake Wars on our favorite Minecra server. Or when we were working for hours on Bloxburg delivering pizzas just so we could a ord the newest Jeep. I hope you have the most fantastic time at UC Berkeley! You are going to rock.
