ea level rise is no longer a “slow-moving disaster,” according to the California Coastal Commission – it is now a real problem requiring urgent action. The commission, accordingly, plans to provide a series of presentations explaining what actions must be taken now to minimize the effects of sea level rise. P. 16

To Dock or Not To Dock: Sheriff’s Authority Still Unclear Orange County staff provided an explanation as to who has authority to alter the public’s use of public docks in Newport Beach. A cited code specifically says the director of O.C. Parks can make various changes (such as the length of time boaters can use the docks). Boathouse in Marina del Rey opens to public
Legislators look to expand scope of fishing license bill
Los Angeles County has officially reopened the Boathouse in Marina del Rey. The event site and home to the Water Awareness, Training, Education and Recreation initiative was redeveloped for $6.96 million. P. 13
Legislative efforts to reform California’s fishing licensing system from a calendar-based scheme to 365-day classification won’t be finalized until 2020, at the earliest. Policymakers will spend the next year refining the proposal. P. 27
