On the 1st to 3rd and 7th of October last year, La Salle Computer Society (LSCS) kicked off the new Academic Year of 2019-2020 with its Singaporean cuisine-themed Annual Recruitment Week (ARW). Students from different colleges were enthusiastically welcomed at the organization’s booth located at Velasco Bench 2, where they were able to sign up to become a member of the organization.

At the booth, there were information sheets posted about the past events that LSCS held to give the new members an idea of what the organization is all about. Students who signed up were also encouraged to take a leap and apply to become a Junior Officer (JO) to learn the inner workings of the organization and develop the skills of a future LSCS officer.

This year’s ARW is definitely one for the books. Members, both old and new, should look forward to what LSCS has in store for them this year!

Last November 15, 2019, a workshop entitled “Jupyter x Python Basics” was held at Velasco 207. The event was organized by the Academics Committee of La Salle Computer Society (LSCS). It was spearheaded by Geosef Uy and Melody Go, and attended by students taking up Computer Science major in Software Technology. The topics discussed in the workshop would be beneficial for their course, Intelligent Systems (CSINTSY).

Jan Christiane Blaise Cruz, an alumnus of De La Salle University (DLSU) and the resource person of this workshop, divided the session into two parts. The first part consisted of a crash course on the basics of the programming language Python. The session used Jupyter Notebook as an environment that allows coding and writing documentation at the same time. Meanwhile, the second part focused on Machine Learning. It tackled the problems of the code and involved the students by making them pitch in some ideas on how to solve it.
