SMALL CLASS SIZES No one wants to be stuck at the back of a 200 seat lecture theatre. To make sure you get enough contact hours with tutors we keep our class sizes small to ensure you never feel lost and can easily.

FOCUS ON CAREERS We have a dedicated Careers & Employability Centre which provides friendly and impartial advice to help you plan your career, develop your employability skills and get the right job for you.

EXCELLENT TEACHING Excellent teaching is fundamental to everything we do and we even have won awards to prove it. In 2016 three DkIT Lecturers won National Teaching Awards in recognition of going above and beyond for their students.

STUDENT PLACEMENT DkIT works with companies across a diverse range of sectors to provide high-quality work placement opportunities to more than 900 students each year. These placements are designed to allow you to get a head start in the workplace.

As part of his course Andris completed his compulsory work placement with Gecko.

YOUR SPORT At DkIT we believe sport is for all, from absolute beginner to top-class athlete, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved, keep healthy and get active.

The Sports and Societies office in DkIT offers a range of student based activities and assists in the development of more than 50 clubs and societies. The office employs a GAA coordinator, Rugby Development Officer, part-time Soccer Co-ordinator, Rugby Development Officer and a number of other coaches.

DkIT Sport, our flagship multimillion euro indoor facility, provides a variety of fitness, sport and wellbeing opportunities including: a fully equipped gym, 8 indoor 5 aside football pitches, 65m x 35m training area, team strength and conditioning area, 20-metre swimming pool and steam room & Jacuzzi. As a player at Dundalk F.C I was part of the league winning team in 2014 and I have also played in the Irish League with Warrenpoint FC. The DkIT Sport Scholarship has been a huge help to both myself, in regards to being able to continue playing my sport at a high standard whilst at college and my parents, who were helped hugely by the financial aid the scholarship provides. I have benefitted greatly from the sports science support and I hope to use the new DKIT Sport facility to further improve as a player.

HELP & ADVICE WHEN NEEDED Your college experience is about more than your course, it is about starting the next chapter of your life – your new world. At DkIT you have the chance to grow academically and personally, meet like-minded people and work towards achieving your dreams. Our job is to help you do this.

Health and Wellbeing

Student Finance

It is important to take care of yourself at college, both physically and emotionally. DkIT offers a professional and confidential health and medical service via our on campus health centre. The centre includes a free nursing service and access to a doctor at scheduled times throughout the week. Our prominent health campaigns ensure that all students have the ‘know-how’ to keep themselves safe and healthy while studying with us.

Our staff will advise you on financial matters to help you manage your money better. They provide budgeting consultations and can provide access to financial support for students in financial hardship.

Counselling DkIT operates a free and confidential counselling service to students. The service is operated by two full-time counsellors who are fully trained counselling therapists. Counsellors are trained in the art of listening and provide encouragement and support on academic issues, coping with stress and other issues affecting student life.

Accommodation While our campus is predominantly a commuter campus, the DkIT Students Union provides students with support and advice around accommodation. Faith & Spirituality

Access

At DkIT we welcome students of all faiths and beliefs. We have a number of services and on campus facilities to offer spiritual care to our students and staff. The DkIT Chaplaincy is available to all students and provides pastoral and holistic care within the college community. Our on-site chaplaincy staff organise a variety of events and services and are always on hand to provide a friendly face, a smile and words of welcome to students of all faiths.

The DkIT Access office is committed to increasing access and participation rates of students from under-represented groups. The access service coordinates the mature entry route into DkIT and also operates the DkIT Access Scholarship.

In addition to students studying part of their degrees in partner institutions around the world, we currently have more than 650 international students from 25+ different countries studying with us. This means that whether you decide to study abroad or stay closer to home, you will always have the opportunity to meet, interact and make friends with students from all over the globe.

International Placements/ Internships

Studies show that students with international experience develop the global skills employers require, obtain higher starting salaries and achieve better career progression. It is for this reason that many of our courses provide our students with the opportunity to study at a university or institute overseas as part of their course.

On certain programmes, students have the option to complete work placements or student projects abroad. Students should consult with their Programme Directors for more information in relation to this.

You may choose to study at one of DkIT’s many partner institutions in Europe through the Erasmus+ programme. DkIT has participated in the Erasmus+ programme for more than 25 year and the International Office provides support to students prior and during their Erasmus placements.

Support starts from the moment you consider studying with us. MATURE STUDENTS DkIT welcomes mature students, both full-time and part-time. We encourage applications from mature students (aged 23 and over on Jan 1st of year of entry). We are here to ensure your life skills and work experience are taken into account as much as your academic qualifications.

If you already have experience of higher education study, you may be able to join a course in the second year or third year.

SELECTING YOUR LEVEL DkIT offers different levels of qualifications, and there is a high level of flexibility with regard to points of entry and exit route along ones study path. At undergraduate level, the following awards can be made at DkIT:

Higher Diploma | This is a NFQ Level 6 qualification and normally takes 2 years of full-time study. Successful completion of a Higher Diploma will guarantee entry to the second year of an ordinary Bachelor’s degree.

Ordinary Bachelor’s Degree | This is a NFQ Level 7 qualification which usually takes 3 years of full-time study. At DkIT we offer an extensive range of BA and BSc Degrees. Successful completion of an Ordinary Bachelor’s Degree will guarantee entry to the second year of an ordinary Bachelor’s degree.

LEVEL 8

Honours Bachelor’s Degree | This is a NFQ Level 8 qualification which usually takes 3 years of full-time study. At DkIT we offer 22 Honours Degrees across a wide selection of courses. Successful completion of an Honours Bachelor Degree will mean students are eligible to continue to postgraduate at DkIT or any other third level institute of education.

International Students

DkIT offers apprenticeships in Electrical, Motor Mechanics, Plumbing and Carpentry in conjunction with the LMETB - Louth and Meath Education and Training Board. To apply for apprenticeships in the Louth or Meath region your should apply directly to the Regional Skills & Training Centre via www.rstc.ie

Mature Applicants A mature applicant must be 23 years of age by 1st January in the year of entry.

Applications for entry into Year 1 of a full-time undergraduate programme must be made through the CAO by 1st February each year.

These are primarily aimed at individuals who work and wish to further their career by upskill and or change careers.

FEES & FINANCE Studying at college is without question one of the best investments you will ever make however, financing your studies can be daunting at first. There is support on campus to help you manage your finances and understand your options.

How much will it cost?

Tuition Fees for International (non-EU) Citizen

Student Contribution Charge for eligible EU students in 2018/2019 is €3000 plus a DkIT Facilities Contribution Fee of €125. Tuition fees may vary however it is worth noting that fees do not normally apply for first time, full time undergradutes.

Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree – €10,245 per annum. This includes the Institute’s Student Contribution fee. Post graduate fees are €10,000 to 12,000 per annum.

How is this payable?

Some students may be eligible for a tuition fee waiver depending on their socioeconomic background. Students from outside Ireland may have different fee charges.

Grants The student grant is the main source of financial help available from the Irish State for students in full-time Post Leaving Certificate Courses (PLCs) and full-time higher education undergraduate courses. Support is available to eligible students in most colleges in Ireland as well as eligible Irish students in many colleges in Northern Ireland, the UK and other EU States. For eligible students, the grant is there to help with the various costs of participating in further or higher education. Students on part-time courses, access or foundation courses (in higher education institutions) and short courses are not eligible to apply for a student grant.
