YOU PARKOUR A couple’s vision for a more active future We at Destination have been hearing a lot about Parkour recently, so we decided to tell you, our loyal readers, what we have found out. We attended a class with Spoonfed’s Jon Dean and Heba Faqih (who brought in a trainer from the UK) to help us understand what Parkour is and what they see for the future of Parkour, here in Jeddah. For those that do not know, Parkour is a French sport. It was originally started by David

Belle as a training discipline for the military, later on becoming a world-wide sport. Parkour trains the body and mind simultaneously. It helps you work every aspect of your body in a more open, nonrestricted routine and teaches the mind to be aware of what the body’s capabilities are. When asked about how challenging the sport is, they stressed that mentally and physically, there is a certain challenge because of the
novelty of the practice, using muscles and moves that are crafted for a sport that is unlike any other while trying to wrap your mind around suspending fear enough for the possibility to execute these moves. Jon and Heba tell us that right now, they are trying to work on implementing Parkour in schools. Parkour being available to the kids would improve the children’s movement with little injury.
