Flag increases visibility on the road, could save lives
Back for a second year in a row, the Unusual and Mysterious Holmes County, is tonight (Thursday, Aug. 14), 7-9 p.m., at the Holmes County District Public Library. Attendees will again be invited to listen to new local stories and legends about Holmes County, while learning the fascinating history of the area. Public participation is encouraged, and those in attendance are encouraged to share their own stories about mysterious and strange sightings or happenings.

In a continuing effort to keep folks, especially young ones, safe on the road, local safety advocates are pushing for increased use of a new flag to help increase visibility of pony carts. The flag was designed by representatives from the Amish Safety Committee and the Ohio State University’s Department of Agricultural Safety and Health program. Manufactured locally at Shrock’s Buggy Wholesale, the flags have been approved for use in 16 communities in five states and Canada, according to Safety Committee member Gid Yoder. After experimenting with a variety of materials and designs, the group settled on a flag, made from a reflective material, visible after dark. The material is fade resistant, ensuring the bright
